Great food, incredible service, and quite expensive (but Oslo seems expensive for everything).I really enjoyed the dinner and the service, the food was well paired and all the flavors strong and decided. Perhaps the sorbet between the fish and the meat is a bit old style, nevertheless it was good.

There are simply no words to describe the incredible artistry of this restaurant. From the sedate entry to the stunning dining room, the experience of dining in this incredible establishment is beyond compare to any dining opportunity one might have.We made our reservations months in advance, and we had already planned to partake of the tasting menu - all ten courses - and we were not disappointed. We also chose the wine-paired version, and the sommeliers selected incredible wines. There were also three additional dishes that were not in the printed menu, and they just added to the perfection of the entire meal. The menu does change on a regular basis based on ingredient availability and the seasons. And every ingredient is treated thoughtfully. And every ingredient is perfectly delicious. This is a dining adventure, and it is meant to be savored in both time and taste. There was not a single time in this evening that we felt wanting for anything. And, thankfully, the portions are small to allow for enjoyment of the meal without feeling outrageously full. My simple advice - if you have the opportunity when in Oslo, make the reservation to enjoy everything that is offered. It is not to be missed!!!!!

When you walk into the dinning room you are instantly in awe. The light grey walls are striking against the white moulding and clean lines. My husband and I went in to try this Michelin star restaurant and it did not disappoint. We each ordered the tasting menu, I paired mine with wine and he with juice. The pace was a little uneven at first with all the appetizers coming out quickly but the soon slowed down and took their time. My favorite dishes were the langostine and the duck fritter.

First dinner in my life where I can say that I loved every last bite. We did the five course tasting menu; descriptions in the pictures. Trying to fully write out how good this food tastes would only do it an injustice.

Mark Twain once said: "I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead." I've mulled over my review for Statholdergaarden to find the right words to say, and thus I will keep it brief. There is only one thing that disappointed me about Statholdergaarden the entire time we were there. That's that they only have 1 Michelin star. This is easily a 2 Michelin star restaurant, if not a 3. Michelin people - get back in here!Food: Incredible. Absolutely indescribable. Each plate is nothing short of perfect. The only halibut in the world that rivals Marc Forgione's, and possibly the only menu-based dinner in my life where I can say that I loved every last bite. We did the five course tasting menu; descriptions in the pictures. Trying to fully write out how good this food tastes would only do it an injustice. Service: Potentially the best we've ever had. Our server, Henrik, was absolutely amazing. Hands down one of the most personable, knowledgable hosts I've ever met. Truly enhanced our meal and the experience as a whole. The rest of the staff was extremely attentive and professional as well. Ambiance: Perfect. Beautiful space; not too loud but not uncomfortably quiet either. Lots of space between the tables as well.I could go on for pages but I've said everything I need to. If you go to Oslo and you skip Statholdergaarden, you are making a huge mistake.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous meal.
We did the tasting menu which was well worth the cost. It was actually surprisingly cheap given how expensive Oslo is.
Be the first to ReplyWe did a tasting menu here and it was amazing.
Food, wine, and outstanding service. Chef did cater to some food allergies in our group and every dish was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyAn excellent meal in an elegant setting.
We went with the set menu and were not disappointed at all. It's been about a month since I was there so I've forgotten some of what we ate, though I do remember the duck being excellent. It doesn't really matter, though, as their menu changes constantly. They also have amazing wine carafes; some of the most delicate glasswork I've seen, and their serving staff are masters at pouring.Logistics point: as with plenty of other places in Norway, they speak English just fine, so don't worry about that. The menu was also printed in English.Anyway, a great experience; definitely worth your time for a nice night out.

A great experience! The food was awesome accompanied with perfect wine choices. The waiter was well known to both wine and food, and had a great sense of humor. Could not have asked for a better evening, thank you!

Make sure to call to make a reservation first and be prepared to have to go get more food to eat after spending at least $300 usd here. Customer service is excellent! They were very attentive since the time I walked in. They also took the time to show me the different wine that came with my 4 course wine pairing. Also, it came with 5 small amuse bouches--a mini taco with reindeer heart, what looked like a small cone with salmon mousse with caviar, chicken skin served on a cracker and another cone with something I forgot. The last amuse bouche was a spoon of white truffle risotto, which was very creamy and delicious.I ordered the four course menu with the four wine pairings. I got the turbot with the beet root. Beautiful presentation. Very light and the turbot was very fresh.Mussel ravioli and shellfish boullion. Presentation was beautiful. Ravioli was fresh and I could barely taste the mussel because it was so juicy and complemented the shellfish boullion so well. Venison with celery royal (which is celery with egg that's baked) and rosemary black salsify sauce. Deer was very gamey but still edible, the celery royal and the rosemary sauce added a graceful amount of salt to the dish.Dark chocolate and pear with mint sponge cake and red currant gel. Very light and refreshingWonderful wine pairings. Definitely a must. Downsides: really expensive for a small amount of food. One thing that did bug me as it did throughout Norway was that after I had eaten, they didn't bother to brush off my tablecloth like they do in Seattle.
