Mostly positive , but a small negative issue
Honest John here , what I say is genuine and I give a good or bad review as I see fit ... 1st the positives ....interesting location , liked the decor and really cool . Food very good (not cheap but you would know that before hand ) but worth it ...sort of . Service was great as well ๐ Negative ....it gets my goat that an optional service charge gets added to the bill , well we don't do that I want my waitresses / waiters / chefs to get the cash not the company or however they divvy it up , so we got that removed and gave a cash tip . 2nd thing is and this really annoyed me to the extent we would have walked out ( but for the sake of not ruining the birthday for my sons 17th ) he wanted a small alcoholic drink ( wine or beer ) and the manager refused when in reality it really wouldn't have harmed him , a bit better discretion needs to be adapted really , its not against the law for an under 18 to have an alcoholic drink with a meal whilst being supervised by an adult . I felt the manager was scruffy as well ....It was extremely quiet in there with only 2 other couples and our 5 person table ....1 table arrived , sat down , saw the menu and walked out claiming it was overpriced . We probably won't revisit due to the manager being a bit power hungry .

Very interesting venue. Top quality service from the host, he was approachable and had the right level of respect to his customers. Not bad food either. The barbecue sauce is a must with the cauliflower.
Be the first to ReplyPretty average
Service was ok but food exceptionally slow to arrive. Food average. Had prawn and squid for starter just ok. Ribeye pretty average. No option of mash for side which was disappointing. Made a mess of splitting our bill do one person was overcharged but were very apologetic. Wouldn't visit again

Beautifully cooked steaks and very friendly helpful staff. We had a really nice evening and will definitely be going back.
Be the first to ReplyFun Place to Eat with great food
5 minute walk out of the centre but for a great fun atmosphere and a lovely meal it is well worth it. Staff attentive and food was good although its a shame that when you order steak you have to order all sides, otherwise you only get a steak on your plate. Would really recommend the mushrooms to start.

Went here with three friends for a Saturday night steak. Staff lovely. But food left wanting. Steak very disappointing. And expensive. I liked the decor and the attention from the staff was good. Just an overpriced Beefeater.

We both had fillet steak, cooked perfectly and washed down with a good bottle of Malbec. We still found room for desserts which were decently sized and very delicious. We were very well looked after by Nathan, and are already making plans for a return visit.

Having read such positive reviews of this restaurant we decided to treat ourselves ahead of a show at the Motorpoint. We arrived quite early and the place was pretty empty. We were given a warm welcome and seated very quickly. Cocktails were good. Our order for food took an age arriving as there seemed to be only one person in the kitchen literally sending out one table at a time. This was not particularly an issue as we had time before our show. When our mains arrived, one of the rib-eye steaks was virtually inedible. It was undercooked and full of gristle. The other was undercooked but somewhat better quality. The chips were overcooked (or probably reheated) and full of scrappy bits. As time was moving on we decided to share the better of the two steaks and advised the waitress we would not be paying for the other due to the poor quality. She first tried to tell us what a rib-eye should be like, implying we did not know, and then said the chef would need to verify that the steak was not up to scratch by inspecting it. I offered to have it taken to the kitchen but this did not happen. The relatively newly appointed manager then came to the table to address the situation and offered to not charge for one of the meals which was acceptable to us. Given that this restaurant is really quite pricey, the quality of the meat was very poor. Also the cooking of the steak (we requested medium as per their recommendation) was not executed well. In defence of the front of house staff, despite the early hour and the fact that the place was far from busy, it is clear they do not have enough people. Our complaint was dealt with very well by the manager. Definitely not recommended.
Be the first to ReplyDay trip to Cardiff. I want to get this one across in the correct manner !
Cardiff was obviously very busy, tens of thousands of people attended the World round of the Supercross at the Stadium this afyernoon/evening. I struggled to get a booking to the closest and higher rated modern restaurants for the 5 of us (my 3 sons, our Devonshire mate and myself) for lunch on Saturday afternoon. Then almost desperately, called the Steak of the Art, booking taken instantly for 1pm, then due to traffic rearranged onroute for 1.30 without problem. Very few people were in the very Modern and wonderfully decked out restaurant at 1.35pm , where the attention to detail around the decor is really worth seeing in itself. We slipped into a roomy tube shaped painted booth with comfy bench seats and were served promptly, for drinks, nibbles, starters and mains, all food very good and just the right amounts. The draft beers and Dark Stout were all commented on as superb, one of which my son recommended as a top beer, to which we all agreed. Very nicely turned out dishes and slates of food, presented far more professionally than I expected for a theme type restaurant, but then I looked into the immaculate Galley style kitchen, to see the Female Chef working at some presentation with a relaxed smile on her face. The manager, the waiter, the Chef all very cool and professional and the bit we all like is , just at the our elbow enough, but not too much, making sure things are just right and nothing was any trouble to them either. We all ate everything and took turns guessing at the bill before reading it, I think we were all about ยฃ15 per head light on the guesstimated cost , but paid with thanks and the built in service charge too. We went to our event and made a point of calling back in there for a round of drinks and deserts which we ate at the bar, before heading home. It was bustling with groups and couples , but the service we received for the drinks and deserts was just as prompt and professional. In the car we all commented that it was great and that if we visit Cardif again as a group it will be a definite on our agenda for Lunch/Dinner, Rugby maybe if we can get tickets as the Manager mentioned that they sometimes play the matches on the screens in the restaurant. The manager, is a hands on guy, presented himself at the table to bid us welcome and he definately had a good relationship with his staff. The 3 hour visit made our day really. They say you get what you pay for, well we will be happy to pay again ! Thankyou Steak of the Art !
Be the first to Reply1st but not last visit to this fine, friendly establishment!!!!

I visited Steak of the Art with some friends during the Jubilee weekend. The venue itself was lovely with some nice artwork and background music. I ordered the Ribeye, which was cooked perfectly. The service was also good despite it being quite busy.

Visited today before a concert, we were having a nice time until we heard (what we later found to be the head chef) shouting and swearing at one of the waitresses. When we complained we were told that's how chefs get sometimes due to stress. I don't think shouting "get it Fu^_ing sorted" in front of families and children is acceptable. Also the waitresses in question was doing an exceptional job on what was a very busy day. Will not be returning to this restaurant while head chefs are allowed to treat staff members this way.....disgusting behaviour.

Visited here just before the Ed Sheeran concert. The venue was quiet but our friendly server advised us they had back to back bookings later in the day.
Staff were friendly, talkative and very attentive.
The two burgers we had were both good quality but what made this place was the decor. We were lucky enough to sit in the dalek booth but amongst others were balloons, Charlie and the Chocolate factory and Tom Jones.
A lovely venue which we will return to when in the area and recommend to others.
Thanks!
Thanks for a fab meal, the waitress who took care of us was a gem, and the steak that was served to us was absolute perfection (we actually ordered the t-bone and the ribeye), and the mac and cheese side was to die. Thanks!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the worst meals I've had in a long time
The worst steak I've ever tasted. Their menu soudned so promising, and failed to deliver.
We ordered the duck croquettes, bread with olives and brisket fritters for starters. All sounded delicious. Not the case.
The bread was burnt, like actually charcoal, the duck croquettes had no flavour (but the plum ketchup was nice to be fair). And the brisket fritters had no brisket in them, just a weird mash of potato.
When waiting for our starters, I could hear a lot of commotion in the kitchen, sounded like chefs having a good laugh and a joke, which is fine providing they keep an eye on the food and don't burn the bread!
Unfortunately this trend continued throughout our main, which was a chateaubriand, traditionally a beautiful steak one of which I've eaten many times in both chain restaurants like Marco Pierre White / Miller & Carter and more boutique / michellin star restaurants in London, Barcelona, Dubai & Channel Islands. The quality of the cooked steak I was given would nowhere near match the quality of any of the above forementioned establishments.
The cut of meat was ok, but the steak cookery was dreadful for the following reasons:
-- It had been over-seared on one side, which caused it to burn and developer a hard grust around the beef. The inside meat on this particular slice was as a result "Medium-well".
-- It had been cooked unevenly, and not left in the oven long enough (I'm assuming you put your steaks in the oven to finish them, if you cook just on the big grill, then you don't know how to cook a steak).
-- The steak hadn't been left to rest (at all), this was evident by the massive pools of blood appearing on the serving plate. If you rest a steak properly, this won't happen.
Like i said the cut of meat wasn't bad, so the only thing I can blame for this is the skill and care given by the chef, which given the tomfoolery I witnessed from your kitchen staff, would make complete sense. They weren't paying attention, couldn't be bothered to put the care and love into the food that was deserved.
The side orders also left a lot to be desired, we ordered hand cut chips, onion rings, mushrooms and truffle fries.
Both the fries, chips and onion rings were all coated in a thick layer of grease, so much so that it gave me a bad stomach later that evening, and the taste of grease kept repeating on me.
Now you will probablly ask, why didn't I complain at the time to the server? Well, it was an anniversary lunch with my partner, and whilst we didn't enjoy the food as much we didn't want to make a scene there and then as we are both not fans of confrontation or stressful situations such as that. I'm certainly not the complaining type who kicks off to score a refund or free stuff. I'd much rather voice my concerns via a review, and allow other people to learn of my experience, as in my past experiences, only that generally results in a positive change.
Sons graduation meal
Fabulous food and served just how we ordered it and piping hot, staff really friendly and checked we were enjoying our food. Lovely quirky surroundings. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyBest steak ever
Was here yesterday for a meal with our grandson and had the most amazing melt-in-the-mouth ribeye steaks cooked to perfection and the buffalo wings were amazing as were the fries with truffle oil and grated cheese.
Everything was absolutely perfect including service and steaks were best Iโve ever had and Iโve eaten in some of the best restaurants around in many parts of the world.
What a fab place
Lovely quirky place, great food and atmosphere, great staff and lovely pornstar martini's. It's on a quiet street
Be the first to ReplyAll great - but the steak was disappointing
Go to a steak specialty restaurant you expect something special, and the prices are not cheap. Me and my husband had a ribeye - ยฃ24 plus sides which brought it close to ยฃ32. Both of us found it really chewy as opposed to melt in the mouth like it should be. Donโt get me wrong, it was tasty and the sides were lovely, but it was let down by us struggling to get through it. Sad times. I buy Rib Eyes all the time as itโs our favourite cut, it cost about ยฃ8 for two, and imho so much better texture and a very similar taste.
The venue itself is great, quirky and individual, I just hope what we experienced was an anomaly!
Steak is TO DIE FOR
Me and my mate visited yesterday and got to eat out of a darlec. When does anyone get to say that ๐
The staff are so welcoming and the food, the steak, literally melts in your mouth. Hats off to the chef! Thank you!
