Great Cantonese food
Delicious dim sum - shrimp, pork sui mai, vegetables, rice rolls, lotus root cake, yum. Also went for dinner and the squab was delicious as well as the rest of the food. Great authentic Cantonese cuisine.

Be the first to Replythe worst experience that i have never had, not worth to travel all the way to vancouver to eat their mediocro food
the food was fine except the roast duck skin was cold and hard and the 2nd duck meat dish from the duck was so delayed. The worst thing was the service, my group told the manager specificly a few children in our group has nuts and seafood allergy and we had avoid to order any dishes that might contain those ingredients. Somehow, the manage did not take it seriously and did not care to tell the chief about the allergies. the first duck skin dish was served with prawn chips and that really had ruin our desire to eat the enitre peking duck. not to mention the 2nd duck dish that was cooked from the duck meat of our peking duck. It took them 2 hours to finally serve it to the tablet cold and we were almost wanted to leave and cancel the order. we thouht the bok choi dish with chicken broth would bed safe, but surprisingly it had dry scallops sprinkled all over the dish. It was such an unpleasant experience expecially when some of your group member has food allergies, they wouldn't care less, and all they could tell you is don't eat at this resturant, period
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Chinese restaurant
We made reservations based on the recommendation of friends and were completely satisfied with our experience. Every single employee made us feel welcome and took time to explain various menu items. Spot prawns were in season so we got an order. They were perfectly cooked and had a wonderful taste and texture. We also had fried oysters, spring rolls, fried rice and lettuce wraps. We had early seating reservations and by the time we left the restaurant was full. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for excellent and authentic Chinese food.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently Good
I have been to Sun Sui Wah on several occasions and always found the food consistently good. Not life changing but never a bad meal either. Service standard is also high and consistent
Be the first to ReplyNot so good
Sun Sui Wah was a nice restaurant has gone downhill. The actual price of the food (on dinner menu) was much more expensive than what they advertised on their website. The food was way overpriced ($30-$55/dish), not very good quality, small portion and lacking ingredients. It tasted more like reheated food than freshly made. The service was so-so.
Be the first to ReplyThere are better options
We went here as a group of 2 families (10 in total) for yum cha on the recommendation of some locals - it was largely disappointing. Some of the food was good (the dumplings) and some very ordinary (squid/calamari and the greens) - and there were essentially no desserts available when we attempted to order those on the menu (egg tarts, mango pancakes). Whilst service is rarely the highpoint of such dining experiences, the service here was distinctly ordinary
Be the first to ReplyLive Alaskan King Crab
First opened in 1988, and at its current location since 1995, Sun Sui Wah has established itself as one of Vancouver’s finest Chinese restaurants. Known for its dim sum and fresh seafood, Sun Sui Wah has garnered plenty of praise from the media and food blogging community. At various points in time, Noms Magazine, Globe & Mail, Foodology, DailyHive, Penny & Rusty, Curiously Carmen, Eat Vancouver, Fodors and New York Times have all put in a solid word. Heck, even actor Seth Rogen recently gave Sun Sui Wah a nod as well (2019). With such accolades, most come here with high expectations. Sun Sui Wah has been on my “foodie bucket list” since 2010. I still remember walking through the international terminal at YVR and seeing the large ads near the baggage claim area. The Alaskan King Crab was prominently displayed and that’s what caught my attention way back then. As such, when the opportunity finally presented itself to dine here, I was excited! Because we were ordering the Alaskan Crab, our small party of 4 was given a private and, I was told, a complimentary dessert. Score! We arrived at 6PM for our reservation. Before being escorted into our private room, I had an opportunity to observe the main dining area: It was open and airy – classic high end Chinese with chandeliers and white tablecloths on every table. The restaurant is clearly set up for large banquet-style dining. Unsurprisingly, our private room was equally nice: There was one large table in the center of the room; 8 blue suede chairs (in groups of 2) around the table; relatively soft lighting throughout the room; a flat screen TV; and, sound-proofed walls. The private room was an extra touch, but it really brought our dining experience to a whole new level because we could talk and enjoy our food without the hustle and bustle of the main room. Besides the aforementioned live King Crab, we also ordered jumbo scallops, 3pc abalone, mixed vegetables and deep-fried spareribs. I’ll touch on the crab in a minute: In retrospect, we probably didn’t need to order anything besides the King Crab, but each of these other dishes highlights, for me, why many critics consider Sun Sui Wah to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in North America. The presentation is simple, but the food is nothing short of outstanding. The scallops, for example, were ample, succulent and perfectly cooked. Likewise, the spareribs, while standard at most Chinese restaurants, were some of the best we’ve had: Crispy exterior and juicy, flavourful meat. The ribs weren’t greasy, nor were they overly fatty. Of course, the star of our meal was undoubtedly the Alaskan King Crab. Before preparing it 3 different ways, the host brought it out for us to see and hold up. This particular crab was massive at 10 pounds! The first preparation – simply steamed with garlic – involved the legs. I think this was our favourite because it allowed the natural flavours of the crab to shine. It was absolutely delicious! And the presentation – on a large platter – was beautiful and flawless. The second preparation involved the knuckles of the crab. They were deep-fried and slightly spicy. This was also delicious, but I admit we were all getting pretty full by this point in our meal! Finally, the last preparation was an Alaskan King Crab Fried Rice. It was really good – the sweetness of the crab added some nice flavours to the rice; however, we ended up getting this dish to go because we were just too full! Finally, we were given our complimentary dessert: Sun Sui Wah’s famous tapioca pudding. As with most everything at Sun Sui Wah, the presentation was straightforward, but the flavours were outstanding. Surprising as it may sound, I’ve never had tapioca pudding before, but thoroughly enjoyed this version. It was the perfect way to conclude our meal. I’d be remiss if I failed to mention our servers: In short, we were treated like VIPs from start to finish. Our host was helpful, informative, and had a good sense of humour! Plates were cleared promptly and there were a number of quality checks to ensure we were happy with our food. Given that Sun Sui Wah has been in operation for nearly 35 years it’s hardly surprising they know the importance of customer service. FOOD: 5/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: Well, it took me 12 years to finally get here, but it was worth the wait. Everything, from the service to the food, was flawless – easily in my “top 5” meals of 2022. We will definitely be returning. Very highly recommended! Be the first to ReplyFood was served lukewarm
We were there for dinner last week. Not sure if they accidentally left our ordered dishes in the kitchen for too long. When our ordered food came, it was really lukewarm. This was no good, especially, as I ordered squabs and stir fired fish fillets with veggies. I could tell the ingredients were fresh and the dishes were cooked right. What a shame that they did not table these dishes in a timely manner. For example, squab skins were no longer crispy. What a waste and disappointment! Also, we ordered soup of the day (例汤). Usually this is not a costly item. To our surprise, it cost us CAD36, while the fish fillet dish cost CAD 25. We didn't expect it would be more expensive than fish fillet. They did not list the price of the soup in the menu. If they did that, we would not have made an assumption.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Dim Sum
The 2 of us came here for dim sum lunch on a weekday and it was still busy. We ordered a couple of our all time favourites – steamed shrimp dumpling with asparagus (something different and tastier than plain old shrimp haw gao) & bean curd wrap with port & enoki mushroom. We also had the sticky rice with dried scallop and shrimp plus spinach dumpling with pork. For dessert we had the coconut jello with wolfberry fruit. All dishes were delish. The problem was there was only 2 of us. Tip: must bring at least 4 people so you can try more dim sum dishes! The prices were reasonable considering it was good quality. If you don’t mind paying for good quality and tasty food, this is the place. For 5 dishes, it came to less than $50. Tip: make reservations way ahead of time especially on weekends. There’s complimentary parking downstairs or out front. There’s an elevator near the parkade that will take you directly up to the restaurant for those with mobility challenges. I’ll be back with more hungry friends.

This place has the worst service ever! Many Chinese restaurants are notorious for bad service but this place is on another level. I arrived for lunch and they said the waiting time will be around half an hour. I asked to put my name on the waiting list and the middle aged hostess said sure. I noticed it was strange how she didn't write down my name or number anywhere but I didn't worry about it too much. Anyways, I returned half an hour to check on the waiting list and the woman pretended like it never existed. When I told her that I was on the waiting list, she shrugged and rudely said I should wait another hour. She mockingly pointed to the reservation list and said nothing was recorded. I understand the place is busy but you should NEVER treat your customers with such rudeness and disrespect! This place is a disgrace and I would recommend everyone to stay away. There are plenty of excellent dimsum restaurants in the city.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Dim Sum!
This always had been (and still is) my ‘go to’ favourite dim sum place to take out of town guests and friends. They have really stepped it up since Covid and are top notch when making sure customers stay safe. They check for ID & proof of vaccine. In addition, there’s a thermometer to check your hand’s temperature. Not sure how that works. There are many pros to this place: - Good quality and fresh food (the 4 of us pigged out on 16 dim sum dishes!). Group favourite was the crab claws and eggplant. - Tables are socially distanced from other tables - Good ambiance - Service is prompt - Complimentary parking is located downstairs with elevators taking you directly upstairs - Reservations are available Note: the corn on the cob photo is actually mango dessert! Delish! Definitely come here if you enjoy dim sum and/or want a great experience. You will be impressed!
Be the first to ReplyTraditional Dim Sum always a hit
Sun Sui Wah here in Vancouver and also in Richmond is a mainstay of Dim Sum in Vancouver. Really haven’t had a bad dish here - selections during this particular visit included steamed prawn dumplings, shiu mai, sticky rice, bbq pork buns, pea tips and rice noodle with beef. Service was just ok. Good covid protocols.

First wedding in over 2 years and we had a FEAST at Sun Sui Wah! The 10 course meal in FULL effect and it was just as good as I remember it. We started off with the Roasted Pig cold cut platter. The jellyfish was great and the highlight was the “Cheeto ebi” prawn. Super good! Next up is everyone’s favourite… Deep fried crab claws! It was pipin’ hot and the shrimp was so succulent! The bird’s nest soup with fish maw was perfect when you add that rice vinegar! My favourite is always the sautéed fresh lobster with cilantro and green onions. So so good! Next up is their squab (tastes like duck to me) and it’s one of their specialties! What course am I on? I was feeling pretty full already but the food kept coming. Next up is their abalone with Chinese mushrooms over top of sautéed pea sprouts. This is one of my favourite vegetables and it was cooked to perfection. Their freshly steamed fish with cilantro and soy was flaky and delicate. The last 2 dishes came with the honeymoon fried rice and their e-fu noodles. I ALWAYS have room for these 2 dishes! Wait… there’s still more! Their lotus seed wrapped in a flaky crust and their coconut cookies was a nice way to end the meal…. Although I also had their wedding cake too. I’ll be back here again in a few weeks for another wedding…. YES!!!
