Husband bought me here for my birthday dinner.
We sat for the first seating and realized we were the only ones there. I was skeptical at first wondering why there was no one else. However, after eating the courses it was very different than the other basic omakase places in a good way. As we were the only 2 people there, the atmosphere felt a bit awkward as it was too quiet in there and the chef did not bother interacting with us either. For around $200 a person before tax and tips, it was a decent amount of serving size. I was very full for a girl.
Be the first to ReplyThe fish selection was good at Sushi Ikumi.
If you prefer raw fish in your omakase, this is the place for you. There were 4 appetizers and 12 nigiri, dessert. They were all very fresh and prepared very well by the chef. The dinnerware was also very pretty with the sushi together. We loved all the fish selection but if I have to neat pick, I think the rice was under cooked, and the chef was a bit heavy on the soy sauce. I would recommend asking the chef to be light on the soy sauce. The ambiance and service were great. They were very attentive and polite. It was a pleasure to eat here. The price is about $240 pp.

Authentic sushi experience, strip Jack tastes fantastic, uni is sweet. Chief arranged everything really well.
Be the first to ReplyWe thought the food was very good, but the value was not.
I.e., we've definitely had as good - or better - sushi in NYC for less than half the cost. This was probably why there was only one other person in the place.

Be the first to Replylet me preface by saying i'm not a sushi person.
but after this i am definitely a sushi ikumi person. this was one of the best sushi experiences i've ever had in my life, and i've had michelin starred omakase all over the world (and i swear i'm not trying to brag here but just speaking to how much i enjoyed this meal). getting reservations were really easy because i feel like this place is heavily slept on. it's just one sushi bar that seats probably about 8 people. on a wednesday night it was just two reservations of two people including ours, and a walk in came in shortly after, so it was just 5 patrons dining for this seating. they do seatings at 5pm and 8:30pm. i absolutely loved that the chef made everything by himself on his own and presented all the dishes on his own. he also presented some pieces that i've never, ever had nor heard of (and they were absolutely delicious). i've never had spanish mackerel that buttery, nor even knew blood clam was something that can be eaten as nigiri (he explained that it's very hard to find in the US). there were some surprise courses as well, some of which made my jaw drop as i watched him pull more and more things out of the fridge, wondering what he would do next. needless to say, so many flavor bombs for dinner were served tonight. but it wasn't even frivolous or heavy handed on sauces/creams/etc, everything was still clean, fresh, and the main fish ingredient showed through for each course. there was ginger and pickles (unlimited refills hehehe my fave) throughout the meal to cleanse your palate. i also had some really refreshing iced barley tea. to end our meal, we had a sake flavored cookie and a delightful homemade strawberry ice cream, and the chef was even kind enough to present an extra birthday dessert with a candle for us. i used to only really like salmon and some slices of tuna bc i'm basic, but there wasn't a single salmon component served tonight and i was blown away and so happy to have enjoyed such a wonderful spread of food. I would love to come back and try again in a different season to see what the chef has to offer then. at $220pp, i honestly preferred this 10x over a michelin starred sushi restaurant i had in nyc recently which was more expensive pp.
Be the first to ReplyProbably one of the best omakase experiences I've had so
Probably one of the best omakase experiences I've had so far this year! The chef also prepared a small little tiramisu cake for my birthday which was really sweet, much appreciated. I loved every dish/sushi piece that was served. The warm egg with uni was a nice appetizer to start off with (super cold that day lol). Some of my favorite pieces has to be the squid, red clam and the sea bass which was super soft and melted in your mouth. I really enjoyed the giant slice of futomaki with the soup! That was def new for me.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous sushi omakase experience at $220pp.
I came in late September with a group of 8 for my sister's birthday. We booked the 8PM seating and it turned out to be a private dinner since there were so many of us (10-seat counter)! The service was phenomenal. Chef Jeong was very hospitable and a wizard with the knife. That being said... If you're looking for a fast-casual experience or sushi pieces that pile on uni, caviar or wagyu, this is not the place. But if you appreciate a more delicate and intricate touch with high quality ingredients, then come to Sushi Ikumi. Not all omakase is the same, which is good, because sometimes you want different things. For Ikumi, I loved that there were a lot of silver-skinned fish or hikarimono. Every piece was also presented beautifully. Till this day, I still think about this meal from time to time. One of our friends actually returned for another dinner within 2 weeks of our visit. I think that for sushi lovers who want to have an omakase experience within this price range, this is a superb option that is not often talked about.
Be the first to ReplyI've eaten at a dozen Omakase spots in nyc.
Never has one impressed me so much. The pieces were so seasonal and the service was such an experience!
Be the first to ReplyThis was by far one of my favorite experiences.
The chef was very talented and everything we ate was delicious. The vibe was very relaxing and intimate. Would highly recommend for a date night or a night out with friends
Be the first to ReplyExcellent for the price point .
There are some interesting choices that you won't see at many omakase locations like the blood clam sushi. The wine list and the sake list leave a little to be desired but you can bring your own wine ($60 corkage). The sushi bar is quite large and wide so the service does at times seem a bit slow. Still, good option for under 300.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband took me here for my birthday on a Saturday
My husband took me here for my birthday on a Saturday evening. He told me reservations were always booked so he waited until 12am two weeks prior and scored the only reservation available! We went back in April and the prices were 180$/pp but it looks like the prices have gone up since then. The place is pretty small tucked away in the middle of Soho. It had great ambiance and it was very clean. They have about 10 or so seats and we all started at the same time. This was hands down our favorite omakase experience so far (we've been to a bunch of others in NYC)! They served special cuts of sashimi based on what was in season. Everything was so DELICIOUS! Service was 5/5 - they made sure our water cups never went empty and always asked if we wanted another bottle of sake. The entire dinner took about 2.5 hours but we loved every minute of it! I don't like those omakase experiences where they rush you out right when the hour ends and you end up walking out so hungry even after paying 150$/pp. Chef Jon also gave us a special dessert for my birthday! :) Highly recommended this place and will definitely go back!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe courses were generally good, as was the service.
I found that I left more full than I usually do from omakase places, which was a plus. The service was also good - nice pace and they were very kind about letting us try a number of different sakes until we settled in the bottle we wanted. Also loved the cute sake glass selection you got to choose from. The food was generally pretty good. My favorite dish was the first course, which was a lobster and egg dish. The fish was okay but I was disappointed that there were no salmon, Arctic char, or scallop pieces, which are generally my favorite. I also didn't love that there were so many fishy mackerel-type dishes, which I usually do not like. If I'm being very picky, the uni was tiny in size, the Ebi was a little off color and taste, and the miso soup was not great (had a weird bitter taste). We were celebrating a birthday so they put a candle in our dessert, which was thoughtful. Overall, not bad. Just wish they would modify the sushi selection to include scallop and salmon or Arctic char!

My bf took me here for our anniversary back in June! We were debating between two types of sake to get and the Chef offered us samples of both! So kind. (We decided on the Born Gold, which was smooth) Their sake glasses and carafe was beautiful!I loved that the chef cut all the fish in real time, it was amazing to watch. All the fish was fresh and delicious. This time around, a lot of the pieces (aka more than one haha!) were more 'fishy' than I like. I typically don't like mackerel, gizzard shard, etc. But these pieces were okay considering I don't like them to start. I do like that the Chef makes the fish stand out on its own. No extra sauces or garnishes needed. Oh also loved how the ginger was sliced a little thicker rather than the typical thinly sliced version. We ended the meal with some ice cream. Chef also prepared a little dessert plate with a candle to celebrate our anniversary. Lovely experience!
Be the first to ReplyTiny space, limited seating, just pure amazing sushi.
No frills, no tricks. Had lots of sake with the fish, and it was a wonderfully chill evening.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful fusion of traditional and modern sushi.
Starting with interesting combo of appetizers of gunther & abalone with amazing blend of delicate flavors, nigiri starting with young knifejaw sushi melting in your mouth with fine cross cuts, rare seasonal saury, young cuttlefish, and a surprising sensibly brazed nodoguro after delicate chutoro, followed by seasonal skipjack. The skipjack is one of the best I've had anywhere in the world including Japan, flavor, texture, richness and everything else being just perfect. Eclectic selection of sake compliments the excellent omakase menu. I highly recommend this place for anyone serious about having a great sushi experience.
