If you are thinking about going to Kiriko, go now before it's too late!Kiriko has been a Sawtelle staple for decades and is what I consider the best bang for your buck on the westside. During Covid, their to-go chirashi bowls and bentos were some of the only things I looked forward to during those dark times when dine-in was off limits. I've since returned for in-person dining and the omakase experience is truly special! Some of my favorites include the hotate (scallop) and kinmedai (golden eye snapper). They also have a smoked salmon with caviar nigiri, which they smoke the salmon in-house. Omakase is now 10 pieces with a hand roll at the end (definitely do the blue crab or negi toro hand roll) at market price, costing ~$90pp in my most recent visit. Be sure to take a look at the seasonal items for any add-ons.Unfortunately, Kiriko has been struggling as of late. One being short staffed so service is on the slower side and Chef Ken has been answering phones and serving himself. Two with lack of business. as evident by a "notice to change ownership" sign outside their restaurant. Their last day hasn't been announced but is likely in the next few weeks. So this is your last chance to experience Chef Ken and Chef Tomo's extraordinary sushi before Kiriko changes hands. Don't regret skipping out if you're looking to try something new and for the returning patrons, get your last hurrahs in before Kiriko is no more.Make sure to make a reservation and specify if you'd like to be seated at the sushi bar.
