Simple and good
Excellent dishes: being an ร la carte menu we preferred to take some serving dishes and some sushi rolls. We took Gyoza, Udon and 3 sushi rolls: all very simple and good! Good price for a not too expensive dinner, very kind staff.
Be the first to ReplyGod awful! Horrendous service
I barely write reviews, but our experience was so terrible that I must warn others! The server was rude uninformed and obnoxious. On the menu the restaurant charges 2$ for regular sriracha big first response when we asked for hot sauce was no we donโt have. The sushi chef was kind enough to over heat and instruct the server(of course we were charged for it!) They even charge for a quarter cucumber sliced (call it a side!!). Nonetheless we could read the menu and all this was clearly indicated. My 4 year old son asked for lobster sushi, the server went back and forth on prices. Similarly we asked for roe and we were rudely informed that the โsideโ price only applies if we order sushi with it (please note we had just ordered 2 plates of salmon nigiriโฆand a bunch of other stuff). I agreed to her ask for the menu price of 5$ instead of 3 and yet the server came back two mins later saying I need to charge more! At this point we were so sick of this nonsense of nickel and diming over dinner we just waited for our son (4 years old) to eat and let without our dinner. We still Paid a $140 bill so that should indicate to you that we were definitely not the ones nickel and diming. To top it all, a guy came and asked us โ how was the serviceโ and then once we told him it was terrible just stared at us and did nothing to help. Bizarre! Avoid if you can.!

Our second visit in three weeks was just as wonderful as our first. Our first visit was for ourJapanese granddaughter who was craving gyoza. We all loved everything that was suggested and couldnโt wait for a return visit. Every meal each of us has had has been wonderful. The service is excellent from knowledgeable waitstaff. Our new favorite pre-theatre restaurant.

This place below street level has 3 aspects: a normal sushi counter, dining areas both tables and communal, and finally, 5 seats directly in front of the kitchen. Where you sit depends on what you're having. There is omakase sushi/sashimi at the first counter, dining room for ordering off the menu and finally what we did, the combo omakase with cooked dishes (my Japanese wife thinks just sushi gets monotonous) which is 5 stools facing the open kitchen.
First, the sake recommendations are a big up sell in the $120+ range. The omakase we had (a special occasion) was $155 and as expected, has several styles of cooking (all fish no meat). It is made in front of you along with the other cooked orders being called in. This does not include anything fried; I asked for a taste of tempura (3 pieces $10 extra). The final sushi course 5 pieces, is brought from the front counter. Everything good, nothing memorable. The head chef is Japanese and is somewhat personable but reserved, as is customary.
With the sake I went downscale on ++ it came to $500 for 2 and I have to conclude, not worth it.
In Search of Miso
My wife and I went to Sushi Seki in search of Miso.
Sushi Seki is very conveniently located near Times Square and is clean and somewhat modern looking.
There were about 4 different types of Miso and also Udon in Miso.
My wife had the Vegetable Udon while I had the Tempura Udon. We loved the Miso broth and also the Udon itself. It was simple and tasty. Watch out for the pepper powder you can add - it has a beautiful smokey taste but when you get to your miso broth the remaining pepper powder is there and wow is it hot!
We can't wait to return and try other dishes.
Overall A+
Solid but a bit overpriced
Been to the upper east side restaurant many years in past and always thought highly of sushi Seki. First time back to NYC in 6 yrs and wanted to try their time square store. Food is excellent but my opinion is a bit overpriced. It's still very solid (go for the omakase dinner - you will be delighted).
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable
Decided to come here while walking Restaurant Row. Atmosphere was pleasant, they had my reservation, and even offered to check my bags.
Sat at the counter, had hamachi Jalapeรฑo, agedashi tofu, 3 pieces of Otoro sushi and a California roll.
They also had an excellent selection of sake. Everything good nothing to complain about. The price is fair for what I had, but it turned out to be my most expensive meal for the trip, more than Wollensky.
The Otoro and sake (I had a carafe) was 60% of the bill. Enjoyed myself thoroughly
Would definitely return when in the Theater District
Good location with a fun vibe, a short walk from Time Square. Chefโs selections were very creative and delicious. Servers were very informative.

I am on a business trip. A friend suggested this place I was skeptical. But. I was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent sushi (I only ordered sushi)
Some of the items were very original. The Toro was high quality.
A bit pricey. I swiped $165 per person for a modest order and beer. But it's good and it's NY
I will be back
Excellent black cod
Beautiful setting and delicious food- Andy had the sushi dinner and I enjoyed the grilled miso black cod- started with a bowl of miso soup and shared the soft shell crab appetizer. Enjoyed the complimentary green tea at the end. Ecellent service
Be the first to Reply2-3 star food with 1-2 star service at 5 star prices
First time visit tonight. Waiter (of which there were 5 in total, none of them coordinated with each other) taking our order suggested "Chefโs Selection"... "Our chefs will select the best fish of the day for you to experience". This selection which consisted of decent though highly unspectacular selection of sushi/sashimi came to USD 100+ per person for food only (ginger and seaweed salad all at fridge temperature). On top of that was added "20% service charge" with the customer friendly addition from another waiter that "no need to add service as included in the service charge". Altogether bill of USD 470 for 2 adults (inkl two beers) and one child, mediocre food, terrible service. Will not merit another visit and would not recommend to anyone
Be the first to ReplyExcellent sushi
This restaurant offers an excellent selection of sushi and sashimi. We had the edamame, gyoza, and the special sushi dinner.
What we liked:
- Good attentive service
- Really fresh sushi
- Interesting toppings (I never had sushi with a tomato topping before)
- Relaxed atmosphere
What can be better:
- A bit pricey
