Superb sushi
A pure sushi omakase experience. About 10 starters including sashimi, followed by 10 pieces of sushi. Surprisingly no dessert but we were stuffed anyway. Good service and some staff spoke good english though the chef didn’t. Not the best i’ve had, but excellent enough 9/10

Unbelievable sushi meal in Japan, one of our favorites was the tile fish prepared with a sauce from the liver. A little sweet, mild flavor - so good! We also really liked the chu toro and the chawamushi. Staff was excellent, and very attentive. Chef recommended an excellent sake to complement the meal.

We got there really excited as we entered the restaurant because we had had to wait for weeks to get a booking.
It quickly felt that it is “must go” type of places if you are a foodie living or traveling in Tokyo.
Sushis are as they should be for a Michelin star sushi joint - don’t get me wrong - but the experience is very impersonal.
When spending this kind of money I want an experience, I want something I will remember and it did not happen for us.
There are several sushi joints in Minato Ku where you can get such quality but with a personal touch to a unique experience
Master of sushi
A stellar experience in one of the temples of sushi. Great fish cuts, selected rice, great sake. A must go sushi restaurant.

Maybe we came with high expectations but we didn't disappointed at the end, just not surprised. All dishes were fine and you will only appreciate if you have bit more understanding of sushi… such as fish aging, rare ingredients, chef's grip… etc.
The most surprising were sake line up and great value! Having such rare sake at Michelin 3stars / 5stars hotel, that's really a good deal. Service was excellent, sake recommendations are the best, not just only pushing you to have expensive choices but really match with the food.
Disappointing meal
Disclaimer: I sat with my partner in the alcove with a table, not the sushi counter, although I doubt that should make my review any less relevant.
We were recommended Sushi Shin by our hotel concierge after having trouble making reservations to sushi places that we usually frequent in Tokyo due to the New Years holiday.
After my meal here I have to say I'm very surprised this place has received a Michelin star. Having been to a select few Michelin-starred sushi restaurants in Tokyo, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles over the years e.g. Masa (3 stars), Sawada (2 stars), Ginza Onodera LA (2 stars), Sushi Yoshizumi (1 star), Omakase (1 star), Ju-Ni (1 star), Sushi Amane (1 star), I have to say the food from Sushi Shin does not live up to a star.
The rice was dry and with a tough texture that almost seemed like it was undercooked. The fish in the nigiri was thick and poorly cut which would be ok if this was your corner sushi joint, but unacceptable for a restaurant supposedly of higher caliber. The only highlights were the appetizers which were well executed and the friendly wait staff.
If the meal was $100 per person I would pass it off as another average middle tier sushi restaurant and probably would have never written this review. At a $300 per person price tag, however, I'm expecting excellence and I'm sorry to say that Sushi Shin falls flatly below that mark.
P.S. If you’re a sushi fan don’t trust the hotel concierge for sushi restaurant recommendations. I would do some research on Tabelog (Japanese Yelp). Anything above a 4 is worth visiting (Sushi Shin had a 3.8 at the time this review was written).
Good, not great. Not worth use of a night in Tokyo
The fish here was ok and it’s expensive. We spent about 600 for two of us drinking beer. No otoro, which seemed funny given the star and price. Other reviewers mentioned two different menus. We weren’t given the choice and had the more expensive option. Some of the dishes were involved but not our favorites, like fish intestines. We live in San Francisco and eat sushi in SF, NY and Tokyo with some regularity and while we liked the atmosphere, we thought the food did not warrant the price.

When you eat at expensive sushi places you wonder what you will get. This place has ten seats and there’s no “enclave” as reported by another reviewer. There were three chefs and one head chef who was observing it seemed. There were four or so wait staff. There is no way to describe what was served. Their main restaurant in Hokkaido has Michelin stars. There several similar places in Tokyo but if you are staying at mandarin this is the most con i isn’t place.

No, I'm not talking about All-In-One desktop. I'm talking about all the goodness in sushi under one roof. Unlike other traditional sushi chefs, chef Suzuki earned his Michelin Star by doing market research of other popular restos.
My wife and I loved the fact that he serves all different types of sushi and then some. He not only serves nigiri sushi, but also various types of non-nigiri delights with his own heavenly concoctions. I can't do justice by describing it.....try for yourself. Best of all, unlike other fancy sushi joints, you actually go home pretty full. Another interesting thing is the lax ambience comparatively speaking.
This is a must try place if you haven't. I know we look forward to visiting every time we're in Tokyo.
Beware of the alcove
Although the sushi was decent, we did not see any of the chef's preparation because we were seated in a tiny alcove separated from the sushi bar. The space was about the size of a small broom closet with a low ceiling and a very bright lightbulb. That equaled zero ambience. For a cost exceeding $250 per person we were very disappointed. Would not go back

Shin has the grace of a ballet dancer and an economy of movement that can only come from years of focused practice - really a visual treat.
Every dish hit the mark - we were feeling pretty full and then it was announced that we had 11 sushi pieces to go! But somehow we made room.
The best sushi restaurant I have ever visited.
