Awesome omakase experience.
I booked it 2 months in advance, and the $350 pp price tag (tax and tip included) is worth the splurge if you love the sushi omakase experience. There were over 30 courses, and I was pretty full towards the end of the 1.5 hour experience. During the time that I went, they did include shirako (Japanese word that literally translates to white children). For the less adventurous eaters, it will most likely gross you out if you know what it is. The staff will describe it as "roe" but there is a lot of detail left out in that description. They do give you options for add-ons at the end of the omakase, and I opted for the otoro (fatty tuna). Overall, I thought the omakase was priced appropriately for the quality and amount of food. I would definitely dine at Sushi Sho again in a few years.

Had to post another review with the remaining pictures I had! This post has the remaining omakase items as well as the dessert :)

I ordered to-go on Sushi Sho's website for their $40 Bara Chirashi. Some days are more difficult to reserve than others so definitely try to be flexible if you are wanting to try their take out. Sushi Sho is location inside of the Ritz Carlton so it can be difficult to find, but the staff are always super helpful and will point you in the right direction. Now for the chirashi itself: The box that the chriashi comes in is beautiful and everything is so artfully put together. The quality of the fish is so high and the rice is perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed getting to try different kinds of fish and experiencing certain "melt-in-your-mouth" bites. I did however notice that there were a lot of pieces that were so tough to chew through. They also tasted "fishier" and definitely felt like scraps. I understand that this chirashi bowl consists of some leftover pieces of fish, but I do think that for $40 there shouldn't be a lot of tough pieces. All in all, I think it's worth a try at least once especially if you don't want to do the $350 omakase course, but it's definitely still a splurge and there's tons of other great sushi places around.

Finally! I've been begging my husband to bring me to Sushi Sho since it opened! The ambiance is very fancy. Sitting at the sushi bar feels very exclusive as only 10 can fit at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs were very talented and explained the dishes well. Each dish of the omakase was prepared very carefully. My husband said he appreciated this sushi experience over any Michelin Star restaurant we've been too. I agreed I loved being right in front of the chefs! Every work of art was prepared and presented so carefully. Everything I ate was chosen carefully prepared to perfection, including dessert. Why 4 stars though? Well, I was surprised when at the end of they brought out "extras" as add ons. I also expected otoro but the menu came with chutoro. Otoro was an add on. I didn't know this. I would've rather been offer 2 menus maybe a premium and a standard instead up the Is add on thing. It seemed tacky. However maybe this is common practice at finer sushi spots? Idk?? Overall, it's a must try and I'd like to go back again knowing what I know about the menu. Also, note that it is a flat fee plus tax. No tipping here as it's Japanese style. It's all inclusive.

I was looking for an omakase spot last minute to top off my solo trip to Hawaii and Sushi Sho was by far the highest, most recommended place that I saw. I was somehow luckily able to snag a reservation for 1 and although I was a bit hesitant because of the price tag, knowing how difficult it is to get a spot here, I thought it was a sign I could not miss out, and I'm so glad I did it. From the thoughtful service to the carefully and delicately crafted dishes, Sushi Sho has become my all time favorite omakase experience. We had a total of 27 courses including dessert and it was such a delight tasting each dish not knowing what to expect, but genuinely enjoying all these flavors in a new way. The staff make sure that your dietary preferences are met so that you can have a completely well rounded meal that you will enjoy. Thank you Sushi Sho for an amazing time, this will def be one of the most memorable experiences of my Hawaii trip.

This is my 3rd time back. The food is amazing best sushi place I've had by far. Service is top of top always checking if we are ok if we need more drinks. Staff will bring you cold or hot towels too. The inside of this restaurant really has the Japanese authentic feel to it , I will be back again as the menu changes monthly. Prices are very reasonable too.

I actually came to this place 3 months ago so this is a long awaited review. I recently visited Japan and ofc I had to try their omakase. To my surprise sushi sho is actually very well known in Japan because apparently a Japanese chef from Japan started sushi sho and many other omakse restaurants. I do think it's a bit pricey $350/person. I came here with my bf to celebrate his birthday so after all the extra food that we ordered our total came to be about $900! after finding out how popular sushi sho is I definitely feel like the price is somewhat justifiable

17.23 for pickup at 4:30pm. Easy process. Selected both options: $40 Bara Chirashi "An assortment of seafood "sprinkled" on Sushi rice. With traditional" and $40 Futomaki, Authentic futomaki made with over ten ingredients such as green papaya." The to go boxes are high quality takeout. Here's what we experienced: 1. One set of chopsticks, we were short one set and used a spoon from nearby fast food restaurant 2. No lemon wedge 3. No soysauce packet or container 4. No wasabi at all 5. Tiny amount of fresh ginger 6. The Futomaki smelled very fishy and tasted fishy 7. The sprinkle of seafood were very small and very thin slices of fish Overall, ok experience, hence the three stars. The lack of lemon, soy sauce, wasabi, tiny amt of ginger and fishy aroma generated the three star rating.
Be the first to ReplySuch a once in a lifetime experience, food was delicious
Such a once in a lifetime experience, food was delicious and meticulously prepared. Chefs and waitstaff were knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Service was unmatched, it was the little things and the attention to detail. And the restaurant is beautiful, pictures don't do it justice. I arrived a little bit early and my waitress sat me at a little waiting table with a cup of iced tea. I was then seated for dinner, and chose some drinks. I went with the sake pairing and everything the chef chose was well matched. Thanks for an amazing unforgettable night!

If you have the time and means to dine at Sushi Sho, it may potentially be one of the best meals if your life. I booked a reservation for a group of five through my credit card's concierge service. For groups larger than 2, you will need to call. From my observations, reservations here are extremely difficult to secure: even two full months ahead, dates sell out quickly. I've visited my fair share of fine dining establishments, and have experienced an assortment of high end omakase meals, but Sushi Sho has them all beat. Until dining here yesterday evening, I did not even know sushi could taste this good. The technique and preparation of each dish definitely showcased the 17-years of training and hard work our chef had under his belt: every piece was meticulously assembled. It was such a show being able to sit no more than two-feet away from the chef. The manner which he assembled each piece of nigiri showed a mastery of nigiri. I have no doubt in my mind that he could feel exactly how many grains of rice went into each piece. As each dish comes out to you, either the chef or his translator will come and explain the dish in detail to you, including where the ingredient is sourced. It is impressive how far and wide the ingredients have traveled. As the menu is omakase, there is no guarantee that my meal will be the same as yours. However, my favorite dish of my evening was the pike mackerel (which we were so lucky to be able to try, since it was the last day of mackerel season). For this course, we saw the skillful knife-work of the chef, as he prepared the fish from filet to a piece of nigiri. The fishiness was nicely balanced with the garnishes and the fish itself had a very nice bite to it. I feel like I could write ten more paragraphs raving about how amazing my meal was from start to finish, but this was honestly the best meal of my life. If you are celebrating a monumental accomplishment or special occasion, I cannot recommend Sushi Sho enough. Sushi Sho is magnitudes better than many Michelin starred restaurants I have tried.
Be the first to ReplyVery good chirashi bento box for takeout.
There is plenty of high quality fish in there, with thinly sliced egg, and excellent sushi rice that wasn't just your typical bland white rice. I shared one box with my wife, and we definitely should've gotten two! But we had additional plans for dinner so it was all good. I would definitely get the takeout box again. Not sure if I would ever dine in for omakase one day.

Located inside the beautiful ritz Carlton Sushi Sho was one of our favorite restaurant experiences. Service, sushi chefs, ambiance, food, everything was amazing. I am not a big omakase / sushi person and I barely like raw fish besides the typical salmon nigiri but wow I loved everything! My favorite was the Japanese purple uni, and I dont even like uni! We had sushi sho the first night we were in Hawaii and we could not stop talking about it throughout our trip. My boyfriend wanted to go back again but there was no availability. Its definitely worth the money and time when you visit. They do not accept tips which was cool but we wanted to tip them so badly because they were that good! We will FORSURE go back when we visit Hawaii again.

We missed out on an omakase reservation for Sushi Sho but oh my, the Bara Chirashi takeout box is a STEAL at only $40 each! The box is very filling for one person and comes with all types of seafood on a bed of thinly-sliced egg and expertly-flavored sushi rice (I couldn't quite place the rice; it wasn't your typical rice vinegar sushi rice but it was incredible). Even though we couldn't identify some of the fish in the box, everything tasted amazing! My favorites were the buttery uni that melts in your mouth and the abundance of fish roe that added lots of flavor and texture to the meal. Reserving a box online is easy -- pickup is promptly at 4:30PM (don't be late or they will discard your order at 5 due to health and safety reasons). You walk through the La Vie restaurant at the Ritz Carlton to get to Sushi Sho and they will greet you at the door, confirm your order number, and bring out your boxes! Take them to the beach and enjoy!

Sushi Sho is one that of those places you will just instantly refer to when you are talking to a friend about an Omakase experience. From great service to amazing selection of fish on the menu. Nakazawa-san and his talented team studied the local ingredients, and the result is a menu that seamlessly integrates elements of Hawaii with traditional Edomae sushi. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Most definitely a sushiya to experience.

I recently visited Sushi Sho, a sushi restaurant in Hawaii, and ordered the dinner bento, which consisted mainly of sashimi served over rice. While the sashimi was fresh and visually appealing, I found the overall taste average and not worth the money or the wait. The restaurant's location was challenging, and the wait experience wasn't great either. I had to wait outside in the heat, where the sun was shining right into my eyes, which was quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the staff did not allow me to wait inside the restaurant, which was a bit disappointing.Overall, while Sushi Sho had some positive aspects, such as the freshness of the sashimi and the visually stunning presentation, I found the overall dining experience to be just average. The food taste was not exceptional, and the wait experience was not great. Considering the price and wait time, I would recommend exploring other sushi options in Hawaii.

Couldn't get a reservation to dine in so chose to get their bara chirashi bento box and futomaki for takeout on tock. Pickup is at 4:30pm and you get a 30 min window to pick up your food. While they're priced the same, you def get more bang for your buck on the chirashi option. The chirashi bento was good but sadly it didn't blow me away and the futomaki was just average.
Be the first to ReplyGreat omakase experience.
Was scared this would be over hyped but it did not disappoint. Got to try many fishes I haven't tried. Was definitely a unique experience from other omakase I've had. I'd def recommend. While the $300 price is steep it includes tip so it's about $250 tbh.

Fresh quality seafood, carefully crafted dishes and super attentive customer service. Highly recommend! The Omakase course starts at $300/pp and it's 100% worth it. It is traditional Japanese Omakase so don't expect the gold flake, caviar toppings or truffle. You will get authentic Japanese flavors by chefs trained in Japan. I really felt like I was transported to Japan! At the end, if you're still hungry, you have the option to order Al a carte pieces. We opted for the seared Otoro nigiri and the purple uni from Hokkaido. But to be honest, I was STUFFED! So full. I requested the chef to put very little rice in my add ons because I really wanted to try their other ingredients. This place is insanely hard to book since they are so popular. If you're considering going, I highly suggest to start looking at reservations months in advance. Reservations can only be placed by calling in.
Be the first to ReplyI visited Sushi Sho on 1/28.
Its just legendary. I really enjoyed their masterpiece of sushi. I had high expectation on them but their quality of sushi, service and hospitality easily exceeded my expectation. I will difinitely return to Sushi Sho in my next trip.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is long overdue.
With the baby in-tow, we couldn't reasonably dine in at Sushi Sho but given all we had read and heard about it, we simply had to get a bento box. The price seems steep but it is well worth it. Fresh fish, amazing presentation. Beautifully packaged--I was dying to eat it so I forgot to take a photo of the "before" but this was certainly one of my favorite "unboxings." It was difficult to find parking--left the wife and baby in the car double parked, but getting the box was easy once I found the restaurant. Would love to maybe sneak a date night in house when back in town to see family.
Be the first to ReplySushi Sho is not your ordinary sushi.
This sushi place is more of a temple that is made for the God and Goddess. The world cannot describe the feeling you get when you enter into the Sushi Sho and feel the presence of the almighty world renown chef Keiji Nakazawa. He is beyond legend, he is a poet, shokunin, artist, and perhaps nature itself. Every dish is executed with almost the most finest finesse one can imagine, not disturbing the nature in any single way. Every dish has its component, feel, asthetic that is beyond to just call it is a sushi. It's more of a sensual, sensation. Its not rather one cuisine but rather like sensual experience like seeing the Niagara Fall or Grand Canyon for the first time. Or even camping in the nature wild, when it is raining or snowing. I believe this is a ritual and experience that everyone should cherish and experience at least once in your lifetime. I have dined here probably over 100 times, but still everytime, its nerve racking, just pure sensation of dopamine, almost like your brain is excited to experience another dimension.

Be the first to ReplyMy visit to Sushi Sho was like going to sushi heaven.
Grandmaster has truly mastered the presentation, flavors, textures, sounds, service, ambiance, and experience. Nothing feels forced, experimental, artificial, or overly polished. The feeling is intimate, raw, authentic, exciting, exquisite, and passionate. It's hard to describe as Sushi Sho is more than just about the food.
Be the first to ReplySushi Sho was amazing and delicious.
We sat in the back seating area and it was good. Chef and server was attentive. Ingredients were fresh and made of high quality. It is $$$ but with every single dollar. I would come back. Reservations were booked months in advance. I was very lucky to land a reservation. Plan ahead if you want to try.
