Tamarind Tribeca New York Reviews from The Last Year
Spotless and hygienic! Normally, this isn't the first thing
Spotless and hygienic! Normally, this isn't the first thing I mention about a restaurant, but some restaurants are much better at achieving this than others -- and Tamarind can be counted on for a sanitary and healthy dining experience. The menu is extensive, and the flavors are delicately balanced using a full range of authentic spices. Everyone at our table had something different, and each raved about the quality, including the taste, texture, presentation, and more. While it can be a bit pricey, we always manage to emerge after dining that we received a reasonable value, especially for the excellent food and service we consistently receive.
Booked the table through Opentable.
Showed up for a 8 pm dinner reservation for 6 with a kid (under 5). Was told that no indoor seating reservation for kids under 8 !! Wow ! It's a policy according to the front desk host. I was surprised but they offered us seating outdoors and told us it will be heated. We went to the outdoor pavilion and it was dirty. There was litter all over the floor. Look at the pictures uploaded. I asked the hostess if it's a policy to serve us at this dirty place ! We walked out and the restaurant canceled our Opentable reservation. She said we don't have enough staff and was very condescending about this. Thanks but no more eating here
The ambiance does not look or feel like you're in an Indian
The ambiance does not look or feel like you're in an Indian restaurant. There is very little to no Indian representation. It feels sort of like a fancy steakhouse inside. We ordered the samosas, saffron biriyani and saag paneer. The portions were verrrrrry small. I'm used to biriyani in moderate to big portions when ordered at a typical casual sit-down Indian restaurant. But this portion was very small as a side dish would be. And the price was over $20. There was a theme of most things being $24 such as the saag and other popular curry dishes. In my opinion, $24 is a lot for saag paneer. Also, the saag portion was small. We ordered raita with everything as well and we left still hungry and paying way too much for basic dishes. The service was attentive and nice. They even scoop the food on your plate for you which is nice but also makes you feel like a child. Lol. Also, the food isn't good. The restaurant feels like it's used as a social scene. I give two stars and recommend this place ONLY to have a social time with friends in Tribeca. I would not recommend for the food.
Tamarind is wonderful.
One of my top favorite Indian restaurants in the city. The space feels like an elegant living room. Big booths, high ceilings, romantic lights. Really good service too. My favorite dishes: Nizami keema (minced lamb), paalak chaat (crispy spinach), tamarind rice (order this!!!), Milagu Curry (lamb curry), Chicken Korma, Goan fish curry
I wish I could give zero stars here.
Children under 8 years are not allowed inside. This is rude and not at all family friendly policy. They should market themselves as adults only.
Consistently great food and service.
We have been coming for many years and have never been disappointed.
Ordered via uber eats, received a sub par meal.
Order was above $100, did not receive condiments or silverware. Food was average at best. Extremely disappointing and not worth the price
Went here on March 18, 2024 for a 6pm reservation.
Location: Very close to the subway-1/2/3/A/C. Interior- Very chic and beautiful inside. They also have nice private outdoor dining options. There are two levels indoors. They have gender neutral restrooms. Service: The service was stellar. Our waiter was Sumit he was very patient with all our questions, informative and nice. All the other staff was equally pleasant from the front door staff to the parties that clear the table. Food: The Kozi Gunter was delicious and very flavorful. The Chicken Taka Tak was delicious as well and not too spicy. Both dishes are saucy so if you're looking for a dry dish then these aren't for you. The garlic naan was very fresh and tasty. Note they bring a mushroom appetizer to the table that has a sauce that contains ricotta cheese. I didn't have it but I was told it was good. Portions are a good size especially if you're eating with rice or naan. Drinks: We had mock tails! I had the cucumber cooler which was a lot sweeter than I had anticipated but it was really good. My friend got the lychee blossom which she said was very good. Dessert: My friend got the bread pudding which she stated was good. It didn't look anything like what I know of bread pudding and it definitely isn't the type of dessert I think would comfortably be for two. I think it is for one person or two people on a first date pretending like they don't really want dessert that much Cost: $126 for the two of us- Two entrees, naan, two mocktails, dessert. So if you're looking for regular priced Indian food this is not the place for you. This is more upscale. Overall: Wonderful restaurant! I would return one day.

Visited during restaurant week for lunch -- I am surprised by the negative reviews as I personally loved it and would definitely come back! I felt that the dishes were very well executed and for the restaurant week deal it was more than generous. Rosemary naan and the salmon were the highlights of my meal. The ambiance definitely felt more dated -- very 2000s with minimal decor and white tablecloths. The age range of the diners here definitely skewed towards the older side, but don't let that stop you from dining. Service here was absolutely impeccable. The waiters felt very intuitive and attentive, but not overbearing. I never felt rushed or forgotten, but also didn't feel like someone was watching my every move. This kind of service is honestly hard to find in NYC these days. I also found it refreshing that the space was so large and tables were spaced so far apart. Definitely makes this a good spot to chat and catch up with others or for a business/corporate group. Feels like every new restaurant in NYC is so cramped trying to fit as many tables as they can into one space these days, it was nice to see that Tamarind is different from that.

I'm so mad it took me so long to try this place!! The service was great, ambience was very nice and the food was sooooo darn good! Did an early dinner here on a rainy day in the city. Upon arrival, my party and I were greeted at the front door and umbrellas were placed in a plastic sleeve.. Very much appreciated. We were seated and the dining experience began. Our waiter, was Sudan was extremely professional, helpful and so nice and he did not skip a beat. Started with an appetizer - Chili Crab Cake. Plenty for a table of 3. The cake was loaded with crab which I can get jiggy with. SOoooo soo flavorful and delicious. For my main, I decided on the CHICKEN BIRYANI and decided to make it medium spicy and Garlic Naan! Y'all... I could not stop eating it. The spices were so rich. It was truly delicious As we were leaving, I noticed that the guest that came in after us coats were being checked. I didn't give a 5 star b/c as I mentioned earlier in my review that it was a rainy day. Our coats were pretty damp and I would've appreciated ours to be checked instead of cramped in the corner of our seating area. All in all, I recommend and will be back!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
