Brilliant casual but upmarket lunch spot
The staff were wonderful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was buzzing - overall, TIP TOP! Keep up the great work.
Be the first to ReplyOverall wonderful service and food.
From the very moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. I actually had to check with my friend to see if she knew the hosts, they were that welcoming! The exceptional service continued with our server Orlando, who was simply the best. Made us feel thoroughly special and provided great insight to the menu. Food is exceptional and I look forward to going back to try the dishes I didn’t get too. Overall wonderful service and food.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not excellent
Visited the place already no. (12:15) and was almost the first. Place is small and crowded , staff is very attentive and helpful. You seat is on a bar, not the best chair. Food was ok- not great Base on small plates Overall cost was relatively high
Be the first to ReplyNorth African/Middle Eastern cuisine
Enjoyed our evening here. Food is imaginative, service is friendly and well informed. North African/Middle Eastern cuisine. All seats are at bars, you are seated on stools which are not comfortable and very little space; you are literally rubbing shoulders with your neighbours. The food is generally tasty and well prepared. Some of the sauces too strong, almost overwhelming. I would rate the food B+A- The staff who served us from behind the bar were lovely. Knowledgeable, attentive, generous (we did shots before we left). Fardin and Charlotte really looked after us. The bill came: £145.00 for two people. Not wildly expensive but not good value.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great music just right for a Sunday
It is a little hard to find but once found it should not be forgotten. The food is a mix of everything that you could wish for. The dips and the bread were very tasty and the naan bread was warm and straight out of the oven in front of you. Also don't be afraid to ask if you don't know what something is as the staff are great at helping and guiding you what goes with which other dish. Our favourite was the Pata Negra which was so soft and tasty. But don't forget the specials if they are there The other bit hat made it great on a cold Sunday was the music which was just perfect for a Sunday lunch in a relaxing environment, especially as we were a walk in.

This was one of the best food that we eat in London. We try almost everything from the menu and enjoy it. Great concept and great service 😉
Be the first to ReplyAfter attending Michelin recommended restaurants in London for six days I came to the conclusion that this is the worst…
I came to this restaurant because I went to the Palomar that is its sister restaurant. While the food is god the environment is of a fast food bar …. The staff are unpolite and rush you all the time , the sits are uncomfortable ( still not a chair and there is no table), the chef is shouting all the time …. The place is crowded…. I will never be back…. It really does not match its sister restaurant Palomar. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Well what can I say, I already had good vibes about this place and reviews from friends who had been. So I had high hopes. But Barbary I know this sounds dramatic! But your food makes my soul sing! Flavour flavour off the charts. My partner and I loved it, our waitress, shout out to Mae-zing she was our server, she was fabulous talked us through the menu, I also like to ask staff what they love on the menu as they are living and breathing it , they know what’s good, Mae -zing guided us told us what she liked and it just added to the whole experience. None of the dishes disappointed. Legend you smashed it! The set up of all people around one horse show around the kitchen, great idea you feel connected to the kitchen and staff and just adds to the whole dinning experience, I love to cook myself to seeing in to what they are doing really added it for me. Anyway I’m rambling all I will say is go, you won’t be disappointed fab food, fab atmosphere and amazing staff shout too our main girl Mae-zing and the Yorkshire bloke who picked me the best desert of my life. See you in feb for my birthday x

Tasty food, fun vibe, excellent service (our waiter Alex was great). Perfect for a romantic birthday celebration. Definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant food and service.
Absolutely fantastic food, cannot fault anything on the menu. Will definitely be going back next time we are in London.

I took my teenage son here for dinner while we were in town for his birthday. We had 10 different items, including the pata negra, arissa squid, cauliflower, a few dips with naan and the Jerusalem bagel, and a couple desserts. Usually small plates style restaurants have some hits and a miss or two, this meal was different: each item really was outstanding. The setting is cool as well - stools surrounding the kitchen so you can watch the action. Service was also very good. My kid declared it his "favorite meal ever." High praise, but deserved. It was certainly the most enjoyable meal we had in our five days in London.

I booked this restaurant due to the reviews and secondly it’s proximity to the theatre as we were seeing the two Harry Potter shows. The restaurant is intimate with seating around the bar and overlooking the cooking area. It reminds me of traditional Spanish tapas bars. The menu is not too overwhelming either, but caters for all dietary requirements The hot bread, hummus, cauliflower, salmon and fattoush were all full of flavours and utterly delicious It also plays excellent music, who doesn’t love Johnny Cash! I cannot recommend this place enough and I will certainly return
Be the first to ReplyWhat a find!
I’ll start with the food. The highlight dishes were falafel, Jerusalem Bagel, Pata Negra, and a Smokey/spicy aubergine dip (I can’t recall the name). All of these are delicious and I’d definitely order again next time. Portions for small plates are generous and consequently we over ordered. I’d recommend ordering a few at a time, they serve really quickly. So you’ll not be waiting long for food. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, especially Charlotte, our server. You’ll get a lot of interaction & banter from the staff given the layout. Which leads me on to the set up. I loved how you sit around the bar which surrounds the kitchen, watching the cooks. If you’re looking for a place to have private conversations over dinner, it’s probably not for you. But I’d say it would be a great place for a date, there’d not be awkward silences. Some people may find the seats by the door too cold. They do try to keep the curtain closed for some shelter. But being an open kitchen, it does get warm in there, so I actually welcomed the breeze. It wasn’t a long dining experience, we were probably only there for one and half hours. But others came and went quicker. It does mean it’s a good option if you’re tight for time such as pre theatre. But you have to book, they turned away so many people! They only really had single seats free.
Be the first to ReplyExciting small dishes
Great small dishes and excellent glass(es) of house white wine suggestions, definitely coming back to check more.. friendly and efficient service.
Be the first to ReplyThe best naan bread!
Informed and helpful staff. A fabulous menu, which includes a wide variety of plant-based options. Great taste and impeccable service. The only flipside is that it's almost always full and nearly impossible without an advance reservation. But that's just a reflection on the quality and consistency of their plates. A phenomenal place to dine at for anyone visiting London.
Be the first to ReplyThe most flavorful food you’ll find in London
Somewhat overpriced for such small portions of food, but everything I ate was amazing! Unquestionably some of the best food I’ve had in London.
Be the first to ReplyUnique dining experience
Great and unique dining experience, all guests seated at a bar circling the kitchen. You get to see the cooks preparing your plates which is super fun. Menu is varied and everything we've tried was good. Service was good and efficient. Strongly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Flavors! Unforgettable Dining Experience!
My daughter and I were blown away by the food, the chefs and the staff at Barbary! It has been our most favorite and most unforgettable experience on our London foodie extravaganza. We loved the buzz and the energy of the bar seating. Everyone feels lucky to be there and excited to dig in. The smell of grilling spiced meats and fresh baked bread wafts through the air creating a sense of anticipation for your upcoming meal. Cocktail and wine requests were efficiently explained and provided, as was a very upbeat and thorough explanation of the menu. We settled on two starters — the spinach borani and the hummus —along with some naan. We cleaned the plates clean and even ordered more naan. We followed the starters with Chicken Shawarma and black salmon dukkah which were both unparalleled taste sensations. Complementing these main dishes we had an unforgettable cauliflower —Jaffa style — plate that we were both mesmerized by. Sad to see the flavor sensations come to an end we agreed we needed to try the dessert. We ordered the “hashcake” ( a pistachio tart) that rounded out the meal in fine form. We could not have had a better meal or experience. The chefs are not only incredibly talented, but also kind enough to take a second to talk to you and explain flavor profiles —or whatever other questions you happen to ask them about. Bravo to all the cooks, chefs, wait staff, bar tenders etc as everyone was perfectly pleasant and at the top of their game! Truly incredible labor of love , talent, and devotion to food and hospitality!

Exceptional food, cocktails and excellent service from Alex. Great set up to see the incredible work behind the scenes. We will definitely be back!

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was stand-out. Brilliant ingredients, skilfully prepared, and served by excellent staff. The layout is not your traditional restaurant and isn’t somewhere I’d personally go with a big group because the U shaped bar/table lends itself to something more intimate. Although I love how you can see the food being prepared. A nice touch on our visit was the staff serving all the customers a little glass of punch and toasting. Made it really fun!
Be the first to ReplyCreative North African Plates in a Convivial Setting
What a genuine find in the heart of London. When Time Out London recently identified the 101 best things to do in town, #53 was booking a 12 Noon reservation at this North African spot. Well, they also do bookings when they open for dinner at 5PM, so I snagged a couple of seats since we had tickets later that evening for "& Juliet" nearby in the West End. Located in funky-cool Neal's Yard in Covent Garden, the tiny space is dominated by a horseshoe-shaped counter with all the kinetic plate preparation occurring in the middle. From our stools, we had a prime view of all the appetizing culinary creations. The menu was deceptively straightforward even if it required translation from our patient server. We started with a tasty nishnushim (snack), the £11.50 Moroccan Cigars, deep-fried taquito-like rolled dough stuffed with spicy lamb sausage and accompanied by thick yogurt and harissa. This was followed by the £5.00 Naan e Barbari, handmade fresh in front of us in a tandoor oven. This produced a puffed, smoked flatbread covered in olive oil. Two satisfying dipping sauces accompanied the naan at our discretion. The first was the £7.00 Muhammara, a spicy, almost creamy roasted red pepper dip sitting atop olive oil. The second dish was the £7.00 Chickpea Masabacha, a deconstructed hummus made especially fresh by whole chickpeas. We ordered a winner in the vegetable side dish, the £12.00 Cauliflower Jaffa Style, seared and accompanied by a coriander tomato salsa. The savory high point came next, the £23.00 Hamra Octopus, a substantial octopus tentacle marinated in a pomegranate molasses and hot garlic olive oil. It didn't have the usual chewiness of octopus, and the sweetness of the molasses enhanced the flavor substantially. Our other entree was the £32.00 Lamb Sabzi, a pair of succulent grilled chops that managed to be pillow-tender and was probably the only plate that came close to predictable. Believe it or not, we convinced ourselves we had room for dessert after all that. We first went for the £10.00 Taal Misu, their own special take on tiramisu served in a jar. but the absolute scene stealer was the £12. 50 Knafeh, a Middle Eastern specialty of spun pastry soaked in a sugar-based syrup and layered with cheese, pistachio nuts, and dried apricots. It was the perfect ending to a meal that put us in sensory overload without getting all fussy about it. FOOD - 5 stars...remarkable small plates that transcend their deceptively simple execution AMBIANCE - 5 stars..a happening place with a great view of all the action SERVICE - 5 stars...very personal service and quite responsive TOTAL - 5 stars...a culinary knockout and a convivial environment make this a complete winner
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Been here multiple times, this time was a walk-in as it is one of the reliable options for a tasty meal around Covent Garden. We were welcomed in around 5pm (relatively early) hoping to have a nice meal. From the time we did our order to topping up of our wine hastily by the seasoned manager ever not so subtly, we were rushed to finish our meal. Would have been better if we had been told upfront that we would have limited time to start with. Food also disappointed this time with the £29 seabass left to us eaters to debone (appreciate it is #brexit and there are staff shortages but having to deal with many little bones made the meal experience worse, a professional should do this even if the fish was cooked whole or presented that way), to add to the insult, it tasted bland. Best thing we ate was a tiny side cauliflower dish for £11. I have had many amazing meals here but looks like they have dropped the ball recently.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic, Small, Hip Restaurant
My family of 5 made great efforts to get in as the restaurant is small with most of the seats around the bar. They only take reservations for parties of 4 or less so we made friends with the staff and were squeezed in. The food is outstanding. We ordered Chickpea Masabacha, Beetroot Tirshi, Cauliflower Jaffa Style, Fattoush Salad, Naan e Barbari, Chicken Shawarma and the Black Salmon Dukkah. Every taste was better then the next! I highly recommend The Barbary. They are also very accommodating to Celiac (Gluten Free).

We were lucky enough to get the table outside the door (only 2 serving food), on our first visit here. Tiny place we excellent staff. The managers knowledge of his wine selection and advice was excellent. Food was fresh, tapa’s proportions, and tastes was as good as any of the top restaurants.
