Sunny Side of The Street
In 1946 the incomparable Lady Day record the jazz tune, “Sunny Side of The Street.” She sings, “Grab your coat and get your hat. Leave your worry on the doorstep. Just direct your feet. To the sunny side of the street.” I couldn’t have said it any better Ms. Holiday. Whether you find yourself with feet draggin or a hoppin an a skippin take a chance and step on through the great big birch door at the Birch Door Cafe. Soak in the jazz classics like they’re coming from the original vinyl. Transport back in time to your grandparents. Take a seat by the window and soak in the spring rays that WA so greedily clings to. Expect smiles and laughter amongst the patrons and staff on a mellow morning. You won’t be sitting for long before your first cup of brown nectar is poured, and don’t for get the fresh squeezed OJ. Now you’re getting the picture. The eggs Benedict is creamy. The pancakes are larger than expected, and the potatoes are stacked high like the Cascades. If that’s not enough though, and you need your ModSocks blown completely off, order the Apple Pancake. It’s fluffy, custardy, and sent from the Bellingham ferries astride a corgi directly to your woody table. So fly on in during a weekday and sit by the sun soaked windows. Listen to the local line crew talk about installs and outages, and hear the wait staff joke with one another. Or, best of all, just focus on the one you love and take in the wonderful meal before you begin your morning gear up. Quid Pro Quo though… The weekends are buszzzzzy so expect a 20 to 40 minute wait if you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday at 9-11am. There is no making reservations period… Sometimes when they bring the syrup it’s been freshly rinsed off and placed in a small custard cup.(Thx) But, the water gathers at the bottom and if you’re not careful the water will drip on your food while you pour your syrup. Breakfast foul! C'est la vie mon amie. That is life my friends. That is life.

Took my visiting Sister to breakfast on a Sunday morning. She loved it. We all went in hungry, and we were well and truly full by the time we left. The service was excellent. Never had to ask for refills of coffee or water. Very friendly staff couldn't do enough for the customer. Real customer service. I recommend everyone should visit; you won't regret it.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Takes on American Dishes
The Birch Door in Bellingham is a large restaurant with lots of windows, light and tables. The service is fast and friendly. The lunch menu offers tasty takes on classic American sandwiches, burgers and salads. We went with a friend on a Friday in October for a late lunch. Special note, they serve pumpkin pancakes 🥞 for breakfast during the fall season. Among the meals we ordered were a classic burger on a gluten free bun with fries and a garden scramble with extra mushrooms. The burger was very good and the fries were decent. (We have very standards when it comes to fries.) The scramble was hearty and packed with mushrooms. The coffee was very good and strong. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meals and the airy ambiance. One small caveat, the lunch menu is a bit pricey, hence a 4 out of an otherwise 5.

Wonderful choices in the menu, great service, and ambiance. We had a classic scramble and 49er pancakes and both entrees were excellent!

Be the first to ReplyOur Favorite Cafe to stop for Breakfast or Lunch!
The Birch Door Cafe - Bellingham, Washington. Today Ralph & I went to our favorite restaurant in Bellingham, serving breakfast, brunch & lunch closing at 3 pm. When we arrived a young couple with family moved over so that we could sit down while waiting for our table. We thanked them and struck up a nice, casual conversation. We did not find out until near the end of our talk that they owned the restaurant. They had taken the day off to take some of their close family to lunch, so where else do you go, their own restaurant. Yes, they were the owners but waited like everyone else for a table. For our meal we were seated across from them. The family left before us with a goodbye exchanged. We finished up a bit later and asked for our bill. Our server came back, she told us our meal had been taken care of by the owners. We were so surprised and certainly weren't expecting that. Fortunately we were able to thank them for their kind generousity as they had not yet left the restaurant. I'd like to mention a bit about this family run cafe and not because we were compted our meal but because of the consistent quality, and choice of breakfast/lunch items, the service and friendliness of the staff. If you go in peak times be prepared to wait even with plenty of staff and seating. We will return and recommend you try the Birch Door Cafe! Thank you again for your kindness. It made our day!

This was a solo dining experience. Stepped into the When reviewing the ambiance of a restaurant with a large dining room, many tables, high ceilings, and a well-lit space, you can use the following description: The restaurant's ambiance is characterized by a spacious dining room, abundant tables, high ceilings, and ample lighting that fills the room. The overall atmosphere bears resemblance to a large chain restaurant like Denny's, with a generic and familiar feel. The dining area offers a mix of tables and booths. The tables were packed with patrons enjoying their meals. The clamor of voices made it difficult to hear and engage in conversations, The meal was satisfying and met expectations in terms of quality, but it didn’t possess any exceptional or standout elements. While there were no disappointments, there were also no remarkable highlights that would make it a truly memorable experience.

Two couples went there for breakfast on a Sunday. We didn't have to wait for a table but go early, opens at 0700 because when we left there were crowds waiting to get in. It is not fast food ours took about 30 minutes to be served (was busy) but it is great food. You won't go home hungry. We had the Northwest Benedict with salmon and Florentine Omelette. The other couple had the buckwheat blueberry pancakes, looked and tasted great.

This is a lovely relaxed spot that is great for breakfast or brunch. Large portions, reasonably priced and friendly staff. The buckwheat pancakes are delicious!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing brunch spot
Food and service were amazing. So kind, friendly and quick. The fresh fruit blinzes were out of this world. I would drive here from Vancouver juts for that! Going to tell all my friends to try it out too.

Amazing. Great way to start your day before mountain biking or going on a big adventure where you’ll be burning calories & skipping lunch. Meals here are giant portions and rich! Mushroom gravy is a must if you’re into mushrooms. Baked omelettes are unique and unforgettable!
