Went in alone. Sat at bar to eat.Friendly bar tender. Unexpectedly good food. Took cheesecake back to hotel. Would go again.

This place was suggested to me by a friend, and it was pretty good. A decent size whiskey selection, a large open space, and the food was pretty good. I'm sure it can get real loud here on certain nights and certain times. Would def suggest to someone looking for an extensive whiskey list in the area. The food is a little pricey, but what I had was good.

My colleagues and I dined there for a team dinner during Caucus Weekend on Friday, 2/17, on one of the busiest weekends in Albany during the NYS budget process. I'm providing this context because one would think they would be prepared for this busy weekend. My colleagues waited for at least 20 minutes for our drinks and over an hour for our appetizers and entrees. To make matters worse, the waitress explained that the kitchen was out of the majority of the items we wanted to order for dinner, a fact she failed to mention until we placed our entree orders after more than an hour being seated. While the waitress was apologetic, she was clearly overwhelmed, and she should have told our party about the out-of-stock menu items when we first arrived. It also wasn't lost on our group that several other parties received their drinks and meals in a much timelier fashion that we did. The manager did speak with our table as we were gathering our check to apologize and comped our drinks for the inconvenience. While that gesture was appreciated, the conversation soon became defensive on his end and it frankly made our entire group uncomfortable. Lastly, as we wrapped one of my colleagues found a hair in the soft drink she had been drinking, this after her meal had been overcooked. A mess. The sad part of this experience is that the food we did receive was actually pretty tasty but overall, we were extremely disappointed with the subpar service/management and I certainly will not patronize this establishment again.
Be the first to ReplyWent on a Sunday around 11:30 for brunch.
They had a DJ blaring music louder than most clubs. You could not talk to each other at your table and couldn't hear anything the waitress said. The space itself is nice. A clean and modern design. The food was alright. Everything we ordered was slightly warm and very salty. My Bloody Mary was not good. There was a half inch of salt, pepper and seasoning layered at the bottom of the glass. I felt like I was sipping the ocean. They really love salt here!!! They seem to draw in a young crowd. There were 2 large tables of girls screaming and dancing the entire time we were there. It was an odd brunch experience.
Be the first to ReplyAfter all the great reviews of the great service.
I was severely disappointed. Waitress even admitted our order time had been over 40 minutes. We came in for a bite to eat before heading to The Kenmore Ballroom next door. The bar was full, there was a four top and 3 two tops. Not crowded!!! We waited for a good 10 minutes before the bartender took pity on us and took our drink order. Waitress finally arrived and we ordered food. 20 minutes later we had to flag waitress Down for a second cocktail. 20 minutes later we had to ask waitress about our food order. In the meantime, tables that came in after us were being served their food! Waitress said we were next and she would bring out our check too.... 10 minutes later I said we have to cancel our food order.... concert next door starts in 15 minutes. She said I'll have to check w manager. She came back with bill for our drinks. We paid and left. Manager never came out of kitchen to Apologize. We were polite to waitress, asked if they were understaffed... she said kitchen had 3 people and manager was helping out. Perhaps manager should be working the front to provide some customer service. CUTE PLACE tho.

Wonderful service - cannot say enough about how amazing the people and food and drinks were. When a reservation at another local bar fell through - The Bishop stepped up and made sure we were accommodated before a show at the Palace Theater. They went above and beyond. The Nashville chicken sandwich was top notch.

First, I'd like to thank The Bishop for being able to accommodate our gigantic group of over 10 on a busy Sunday morning :D The food came out promptly, and I was glad for a limited brunch menu because I'm an extremely indecisive person. I got the Crab Egg Benny (and some mimosas of course). I liked that the homefries were crispy and golden rather than that sad brown color that they sometimes are. The plating was appetizing and the balance of the eggs benedict with superb--they really didn't skimp on the crab! BUT. Unfortunately, the eggs themselves were quite disappointing. When I get poached eggs, I expect the delicately encased egg yolks to burst and ooze their way onto my plate as I slice through the thin membrane of egg white. Both my eggs were more on the medium/hard boiled side, no ooze at all :( And I don't think it was a fluke, my friend got a poached egg on the side that was definitely hard boiled. So 4 stars only, I guess if you're not an egg snob like me you'd do okay though LOL. And my boyfriend got the burger and he was perfectly happy!

I was super excited to see their extensive Bourbon and whiskey selection! We went without a reservation, didn't think on a Wednesday night, we would need one. We entered and there were several tables empty and 2 high tops empty and the rude host said, well there are some chairs with a tiny table you can sit at. I had just walked 10 blocks in pouring rain in what I thought was a raincoat, but was rain resistant, so we took the chairs. We were told we could order at the bar and proceeded to do so. Ten minutes after we arrived, another couple came in with no reservation, were seated at the high tops behind us and received full table service. It took an hour for our food to come out and for the price, the food was subpar at best. Would not recommend going here and certainly won't be coming back. I understand staff is short, but there is no need to be rude to paying customers.
Be the first to ReplyWe went here for a private birthday party upstairs.
The decor was lovely-felt like we were in someone's house. The staff was great. The food was excellent, especially the stuffed mushrooms, spinach artichoke spread, and the spicy chicken wings. Consider this establishment if you are looking to have a small party catered in downtown Albany. We were very impressed.
Be the first to ReplyHome fries had a weird seasoning.
Why were they sweet? Burger was ok except the yolk was as hard as rock and not over easy. Heard lunch is good so I'm disappointed brunch was the way it is!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great spot in downtown Albany.
Extensive bourbon list and some nice craft cocktails. Bartender Alyssa (I think was name) was fantastic. Was attentive, and hustled all night. Food was too notch. I got the smash burger which was messy but delicious. Fries were solid, nothing to write home about. Got the apple crumb cheesecake and was seriously best I ever had. Would go back just for that. Management was also nice, they changed the TV for me just by asking to watch a game. Highly recommend

Server was great. Seems like a bit of a locals place which is fun.

Surprisingly the only bar that had seats left with no reservation. Place looks clean as the food they served us. I wasn't terribly hungry but tried the truffle mac with braised short ribs, and was delicious!Friendly staff and our waitress was professional and anticipated our needs, brought small plates for shareable items even without us asking. She also recommended and simply nice!

I'm not a terribly picky diner, and am seldom inspired to leave a negative review if my experience at a restaurant was even just okay. But the food at The Bishop wasn't okay at all - at least on the night we went. Our appetizers (the whipped ricotta and the crispy brussels sprouts) were pretty good - had we only quit while we were ahead! Diner 1 ordered the beet salad, which was unpleasantly bitter (perhaps the combo of arugula and lemon dressing not so advisable), diner 2, the wings, which were extremely dry and seemed overcooked. Diner 3 ordered the special, which was a Thai noodle salad. This was inexplicably awful - the noodles were *uncooked* - crunchy and inedible - and the chicken medallions were very dry. Diner 4 got the "steak sando" which, according to the menu, featured the meat "sliced thin." By no one's definition was the steak in this sandwich sliced thin - it was big chunks of beef falling out of the brioche bun from all sides, because too big to layer & have it stay put! The final insult was the dessert - a mocha chip cheesecake that we were told was made inhouse. It was actually quite delicious until I bit into a fairly large piece of gritty eggshell. Gross. I mean, every place has an off-night, no doubt, but this was bordering on ridiculous. And expensively ridiculous, to boot!Three stars awarded because our server was really wonderful - attentive and engaging.
Be the first to ReplyAte at the restaurant for the first time on 4/14/22.
The menu is limited but what they showed looked decent. The chicken wing were good. Ate the Portobello mushroom sandwich with truffle fries. There wasn't a lot of mushrooms on the sandwich and the sauce on the sandwich was very tangy and overpowered the flavor (and a lot of it). The fries were not cooked enough. My partner had the chicken sandwich with gorgonzola cheese - he said it was "ok" and his fries were not cooked enough either. Drank a Manhattan and my mate drank a martini - both were "ok" but both tasted like they sat on ice and were a bit watered down. With that being said, the waitstaff was attentive and very nice. Food came out quickly and the atmosphere is good. Parking was easy since there is a lot to use across the street.
Be the first to ReplyOver priced average food.
Way over priced bourbon for amounts given...wouldn't mention prices if things were better quality...
Be the first to ReplyA little pretentious with millennial/gen z attitude.
Initial service screw up but the bartender and staff more than made up for it with a couple of comps.Great selection of whisky and the owner introduced himself with style and grace. Oh BTW the food was awesome!

I came here from a recommendation from my brother who is a frequent visitor. I can see why he likes this place so much. The staff is super nice and attentive. The dining area is pretty casual, people were in jeans and shirts. It was basically one giant room with a bar on the back wall. The food came out quick and hot. We got the chicken fried steak and wings as apps and it was perfect. I'm pretty picky when it comes to wings, but these hit the spot!I ordered the short rib sandwich and the short rib was literally mind blowing good. Only criticism is that I felt the fries were a bit skimpy, but honestly everything was so good I didn't mind.

Well. It's NOT the Merry Monk. We gathered for a First Holy Communion celebration today. Love brunch on Sunday. Mimosas. How can a mimosa not be great? They figured it out. Frittata. Not even close. This dried up, tasteless, burnt offering. Attempt at potatoes! Ugh. Burnt again. Good grief. Finally a Bloody Mary that almost came close to something although watery. Husbands French toast tasted like cookie batter. Terrible. The service is so genuine and friendly. Too bad the food is AWFUL.
Be the first to ReplyWas fortunate enough to find this gem at the last minute
Was fortunate enough to find this gem at the last minute right before attending a show at the Palace Theatre. The entire experience was stellar! My best friend and I smiled and laughed from the time that we walked in until we left. The owners came by to check on us and they were so accommodating! It truly made our night! The steak was divine! We will definitely visit this location again when we are in the area!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for dinner before a show.
Fast friendly service, amazing smash burgers, and great beer list! Love this place!
Be the first to ReplyElegant restaurant near our hotel.
Very good onion soups and steak. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyWanted so many ch to like this place.
The good.... NY strip steak was tender and moist. Chicken wings were fair. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable. The not so good.... SALT... they must submerge the food in salt for weeks.... And butter.... Could feel my arteries closing.... And grease.....salt, butter, and grease oh my... the three food groups. Not so sure why these restaurants just lighten things up a bit....keep the food cleaner. I'd like to give it another go as I believe in local restaurants.... Will need to find a different diner buddy as Wife won't be going back anytime soon.
