The best meal of my life.
I visited the Connaught Grill restaurant with three friends, we were treated to a lovely meal and tried most of the menu. The service from the Head of grill Oliver, and the rest of the team was exquisite - and the food was honestly the best i've ever had in London. The chicken was succulent, the seafood as fresh as can be, and the pie was like nothing i've ever had before. I can't wait to come back soon.

This is one of the best meal experiences Iโve had in London. The chefs ability to highlight vegetables is beyond compare and we enjoyed every aspect of it. Service was attentive, yet unassuming.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service very premium ingredients!
The service was informative, attentive and concise . The ambience of the restaurant transfers you to a luxurious American farmhouse dining hall. Very successful decoration as it in not overwhelmingly macho as it usually happens with restaurants that orientate to steaks!
The oysters we had were amazing as well as the sirloin of Japanese beef! The turbot on the bone was perfectly grilled .The restaurant also benefits with sharing the best wine selection in London with the three Michelin star Helene Darroze .
At last but not least special mention to a classic dessert which is prepared in front of you and done with the best possible attention, the famous crepe suzette !
Just WOW
Reading the previous comments i was afraid of what i would find when I walked through the grand lobby of the Connaught. I was greeted by a lovely lady in a beautuful red dress and was escorted down the most wonderful corridor of wine. I have to say I dont know what these other people were on but I think the interior is absolutely amazing! The fusion of old and new is a breath of fresh air, making me feel instantly comfortable and at home. The food is absolutely incredible; my starter of a cheese souffle was to die for and my chicken was the best I have ever eaten. My partner tried the Vegan pie and we were both blown away by it. Desserts outstanding, give me that sticky toffee recipe! The service team were so friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. Not cheap but well worth it. Fab, fab, fab!!

Disastrous renovation. The decor is atrocious, with booths and tables surrounded by tall brown dividers that make you feel youโre entombed within. It is about as unappealing and unglamorous as possible. Like a JApanese chophouse. The wine list is ludicrously expensive. The food, while okay, was presented without garnishment and looked remarkably unappealing. The staff was very nice but it cannot make up for the bad design and heavy menu. It is just a tragedy how the Connaught has changed, and the Grill in particular.
Be the first to ReplyConnaught Grill in name only
Connaught Grill in name only - went for valentines night - excited on arrival , disappointed on departure. Nice menu with interesting twists on classics. But ultimately, this appears to be a side room off a main corridor dressed up as a dining destination. Personally, I hated the booth layout - feels temporary and cheap. The service was very friendly in attitude but not great on delivery ( wine arrived after 1st course, coffee ordered never delivered, asked for water 4 times received once, 30 minute wait for table). Choice of steak knives the only thing worth noting. Needs to do MUCH better if they plan on trading in the Grill reputation
Be the first to ReplyOh dear - we had to abort. It looks like an American Diner.
The new Connaught Grill, which has been open just over a week, is nothing like the old one, which closed 20 years or so ago.
You wouldnโt even know it was in the same room.
Seating consists of โcubiclesโ rather like a railway carriage. You are cut off from all other diners, and it is slightly claustrophobic.
Perhaps this would be ok for a business lunch, or people wanting a private conversation or maybe anonymity.
But for an elderly married couple wanting a decent lunch? No thank you.
A nice man comes along with the menus and proceeds to try to give us a lengthy explanation of the menu, which looked so totally straightforward that we didnโt need him. I had heard him giving his long spiel to the people in the โcarriageโ behind ours, and I didnโt want to hear it again.
I cannot tell you what the food was like ( although the menu looked fine) as at this stage Iโm afraid we decided to go the the lovely light and airy Connaught Restaurant instead.
I would be surprised if this re-incarnation of a wonderful old institution catches on. What on earth are they thinking of, I wonder.
The Grill should have its own review page?
I can't find a dedicated page for The Grill but it should have one - it is terrific, a more casual option at The Connaught, the food is excellent and the service is so good it is almost overly solicitous. The menu caters to all types of eaters, there is an extensive wine list, and everything we had was wonderful as always.
