The Django New York Reviews from The Last Year
Go if you wanted to enjoy music and the atmosphere but
Go if you wanted to enjoy music and the atmosphere but nothing else. I came here for my birthday and left SEVERELY disappointed. My waitress brought our first drinks- I guess she misheard me with my order but I decided to settle because the music started and I couldn't flag her down. We ordered the meat and cheese board- good, but needs more crackers. I order my second drink and the bartender says they can't make this classic cocktail- it occurs to me that they wouldn't have been able to make my first drink either due to the missing ingredient so my waitress just ordered me the closest 2nd option (gin martini) without my approval. I guess their bar is only equipped for just their cocktails, so I ordered off the menu and it was one of the worse cocktails I've ever had. The table next to me received a birthday dessert while we didn't (which isn't the biggest thing in the world but still notable). It was just a sour experience to pay for $35 and two drinks that were less than what I would have liked and poor service. They also charged me $22 for the said gin martini. What? The 3-piece band was good, but the band playing in the entrance of the hotel with the larger bar had a piano, bass, drums, and sax. Additionally, the Photo Booth says $5, but charged $13 and flashes with no warning. It was one annoyance after another. Next time, I'd skip the underground aesthetic for the more proper music and possibly more proper drinks on the first floor. I won't be returning.

I sat at the bar I had just left Dizzy's and was there for the music. Although i did cheat & had desert the CHOCOLATE POT DE CRÈME so yummy with a glass of champagne. Hey thats how I tool. my bartender was great very cool, young, handsome & professional. Now for the ambiance & music. LUTHER S. ALLISON QUARTET was just off the charts. Luther S. Allison is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in both piano, drum set, composer. Stanley Ruvinov base, Hank Allen-Barfield drums all great musicians. Now, people I just can't say enough about James Haddad his trumpet player, composer, and arranger from Brooklyn, New York. He is Fantastic! The only negative point I have about the club basically it's audience is that they're not respectful to the musicians. A young crowd that can't shut up while the set is on. I had just came from Dizzy's and headed to Django, lets just say that does not happen at Dizzy's They'll come over & tell you to please stop talking really people it was ridiculous.

First things first, the environment is really great and intimate! Food was delicious! Prices were steep but we already knew that going in. Perfect for a first date!
AWESOME ATMOSPHERE, NOT SATISFYING EXPERIENCE Cool place,
AWESOME ATMOSPHERE, NOT SATISFYING EXPERIENCE Cool place, nice atmosphere and amazing decorum. Walking past the dark and intimate Hotel Roxy Bar then going down the stairs to a basement level to see an old movie theatre decorated lobby on one side and the Django on the other. The musicians were amazing, the atmosphere of the Django and vibe when you're sitting there just makes it such a cool date spot. That is where most of the nice stuff ends for the Django however. A $35 cover fee per person isn't bad if it was for more than about an hour of music but $35 per person and two drink minimum guarantees you spend about $200 to listen to a single set. It's a smart business model, just doesn't actually make you feel good to come here though. Then they kick you out after 90 minutes, expecting you to chug your second drink. The seats are quite densely arranged so service can be slow, the cocktails were okay, salmon tartare was also fine. I would recommend sitting at the booth if possible for the comfort and view, so overall a very expensive short but fun experience that leaves you wishing you got more for your money
Great atmosphere and entertainment, but we were very
Great atmosphere and entertainment, but we were very underwhelmed by the food. We ordered the kale caesar salad with chicken, which was almost entirely just kale, the snapper and brussell sprout entry (mediocre), and the tuna tartare- which was the most plain tartare I've ever tasted. We had a fun time, and the manager agreed to waive the 2 drink minimum since we weren't drinking and purchased the amount of food we did. Overall, very luke warm experience. There are better live entertainment dinner clubs in NYC.
Unfortunately, the charm of the Django has faded.
We booked a 10:00 pm table for two. At 10:45, we were still standing in the lobby waiting. We ended up just leaving. The $35 per person cover and two drink per person minimum is impossible to stomach after such poor reservation management. Whats the point of a reservation? I guess to stand in the lobby.
Alvin and crew set the tone for an incredible night of jazz
Alvin and crew set the tone for an incredible night of jazz during my stay at the Roxy! I was visiting NY for work, and Alvin made me feel welcome, even though I was on my own on a Saturday night. Such a cool, intimate space to hear outstanding jazz. Classy yet down to earth. Incredible acoustics and lines of sight. Richard Cortez and his band--piano, tenor sax, trumpet, stand-up bass, drums--were absolutely amazing! Personable, engaging and remarkably talented musicians. The perfect end to a long day. Great drinks and wait staff, too.

What a gem! I was worried this spot would be a little gimmicky given it's in a hotel, but the music, food, and ambiance were all spot on! Really enjoyed our time here!
Phenomenal place.
Probably my favorite jazz spot I've been to. Definitely get there early to check in right away so you can be seated first and have the option to choose the best spots. Could not recommend enough, if you're considering it do not even hesitate.

This place was unbelievable! I went for my birthday on Friday and I had an amazing time. The piano guy was incredible! They were all amazing, I loved the music The food was delicious and the staff were very nice. There is an entry fee of $35 and a drink minimum of 2 drinks per person which is honestly not bad at all. If you don't drink you can always substitute the drink with something else. They don't mind doing that for you. This is a must go to place especially if you love great jazz. I will most definitely be visiting again.
