Very classy, very British.
.. From the doorman who opens the door for you to the hostess who takes your coat... everyone was very polite and friendly. Just go, you won't be disappointed

There are endless options in London but if you're looking for one with class, quality, and elegance, this is where you should go The interior is absolutely gorgeous and you can smell fresh flowers all around (as expected from a placed named Orchid Room). These finger sandwiches are by far the BEST I've ever had at afternoon tea. They are a meal on its own with distinctive flavors. I was super impressed by how soft the bread was and the filling ratio. Esp the cucumbers, it was packed with flavor and felt so fresh. AND they ask if you want seconds?!?!?! After, you get a quick seasonal pre-dessert to cleanse your palette. For us, it was a macaron ice cream sandwich that was light, airy, and flagrant The scones were so crumbly and just the perfect compliment for the condiments. I LOVED the clotted cream so much that I honestly would have just scooped it into my mouth if it was socially acceptable The lemon curd was also excellent, balancing out the richness of the cream with a lil bit of zest. When desserts rolled around, we were pretty stuffed so we took most to go. They felt too sweet/dense but nonetheless enjoyable! PSA: rose tea has a laxative effect. Drink in moderation. We were visiting London in mid-September and chose to have afternoon tea at The Dorchester. Having had tea before at a wide range of hotels from The Charlotte Street Hotel to The Savoy, I have to say that we were disappointed in The Dorchester. The setting was gorgeous, but our service was lackluster at best--very inattentive. And not really the fault of the hotel, but there was a couple next to us that was clearly making a Tik Tok video and were constantly--and I mean constantly--recording each other at every step of their tea service. It was really distracting as they kept bobbing up and down to get the right "angles." The food was fine, nothing that unique or spectacular. Given the wide range of choice for high-end teas, I was kicking myself that I chose wrongly this time.
Be the first to ReplyI've been so excited to visit here.
Unfortunately, we sat awkwardly at our table for over 30 minutes without any staff coming to help us. All while other people were served. I even ask led for help. And nobody was sent to wait on us. For a location known for their service it was so disappointing and we ended up leaving our table without acknowledgment. This was the place we most wanted to visit on our trip and the biggest disappointment. I recommend picking any other place down the street.

Came here for afternoon tea and it was all that I dreamed proper afternoon tea in London would be. The service was top tier and the finger sandwiches and pastries were delicious and filling. The tea was nice as well. The lemon curd that comes with the scones was the best I have had. The clotted cream with the strawberry preserves on the scone together was also quite nice. The ice cream sandwich on meringue was unlike anything I've had before (meant in the best way). An unforgettable experience.

Icon and definitely my favorite London Hotel , rooms and suites are sumptuous. From the Promenade for after noon tea , is simply a wonderful experience. Even if I don't stay for whatever reason , I always have afternoon tea at this Parklane Gem !
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for high tea at the Dorchester.
Okay, so this is an experience. At least a full two hours. The room is full of fresh flowers in tasteful arrangements. You are serenaded with a piano, and men in tuxedos take your order and bring out tray after tray of tea and small dishes. That being said, you are paying for the experience, not the food. The food is pretty lackluster. Given the price tag (over $100 per person), I really expected the sandwiches, scones and desserts to be phenomenal. Instead it was pretty bland. The scones were a bit small, cold and not flaky or buttery. The food was like 3/5. The tea though was excellent. You basically get to try an unlimited number of teas, all very high quality with a different story behind each. Basically, I prefer my scones and clotted cream in just regular ole cafes. But this is a fun experience to try out if you are a tourist. Make reservations well in advance, because they book fast.
Be the first to ReplyI don't mind paying for quality.
I once blew 2000 USD on dinner for two at Robuchon. But Robuchon is actually great - not two large great, but great. Tea at the Dorchester, on the other hand, is a wildly overpriced tourist trap with admittedly excellent teas, uninspired food, a ho-hum presentation and an attitude they in no way earn. Dear Dorchester: I spent 10 years as a fine dining waiter, two years as a restaurant columnist, and the last 30 years as a successful novelist, so spare me the attitude. The last upmarket tea I had was at the Willard in Washington, and it was head and shoulders better. Better food, better service, a better ambience. And better scones. Yes, that's right, a Washington DC hotel - an American hotel - has better scones. You want to cop an attitude? Earn it with better food and better service.

Almost 9 months later and I'm still reminiscing about my lovely visit to The Dorchester! What a stunning Tea Room inside this beautiful hotel. I was truly blown away by the luxurious appearance alone. Our service was great on top of the yummy treats. We definitely got seconds of the sandwich platter. The deserts were to die for and I had a generous amount of the delicious champagne. As for the tea, I arrived not excited to have any due to my usual disliking of it. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it here. My visit, thankfully, was in January right before COVID-19. But I cannot wait to travel to London and The Dorchester again someday!
Be the first to ReplyWe did the Tea + Champagne and it was a lovely experience.
Tea was delicious as were the finger sandwiches. Save room for the exceptional pastries at the end.

Afternoon tea here was amazing - the entire experience from start to finish was just phenomenal! To start, staff are super sweet and will guide you through everything you need to know if it's your first time. The palettes cleanser tea was probably my favourite in comparison to the one I chose to compliment my food. Sandwiches are unlimited and they let you choose which ones you'd like to have more of. Then they bring out scones and pastries all at once. There is a 1 hr 45 min seating limit but it's more than enough time (even if you take your time in between tea and take photos or talk)
