A most intriguing place to eat good service & excellently cooked simple but delicious fare.
Not my usual experience as I was part of a large birthday dinner however I am looking forward to returning in a small group. We were served huge dishes of whole sea bass & a mountain of beautifully cooked tender roast lamb. This was all great fun but reveals the fact that many friends had no idea how to cut a fish well & on other occasions how to carve a joint of meat or a fowl However good fun excellent wines but as a guest no idea of costs.

Be the first to ReplyLovely food and great atmosphere
At the end of a great day of culture in London I had gone to The Drapers Arms with my wife and my son and his wife. The Drapers Arms came recommended; however my initial reaction was a degree of uncertainty as we were led to a room on the upper floors (I feared it would be cold and soulless) however the room was fine and already filled with a number of patrons. The guy who showed us to our table really friendly (from San Felice on the edge of Milan where I also lived at one time) and recommended the Cote du Boeuf for 3 of us while my wife had the slip sole. As starters we had the bread, Camembert with Bone Marrow and the broccoli. When the food came everything was excellent, good flavours, perfectly cooked and good portions. We finished the meal with the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate brownie. So, great food and service but the other lovely thing was the vibe in the restaurant, which was lively and friendly, it seemed to be full of great people enjoying friendship and a good time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for Sunday lunch
It is 8 years since I visited this gastropub and it has considerably improved. We booked lunch on New Years Eve with roasts. You can also pre-order whole chickens and the staff will email you beforehand with the menu. In fact I had standard roast beef and it was anything but standard being served in large quantities with succulent potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. The tables were well spaced and the staff attentive so I shall be returning.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and wine to celebrate the new year!
Probably the most extensive wine list in a pub restaurant. Sunday roast is very popular with choice of roast belly pork, roast beef, chicken and quinea fowl, all with roasted potatoes, green and purple cabbages and carrots. I recommend the toffee pudding for dessert, though was tempted by the chocolate nemesis. If you cannot make up your mind on which wine to savour, there is always beer and soft drinks. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyCan’t stop raving about Sunday lunch
We love everything about the Draper’s arms for a Sunday lunch! The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is unbelievable. My dad was getting increasingly disappointed by Sunday lunch until we discovered the Draper’s arms. Now we all rave about it. The staff are so helpful and we always fee very well looked after
Be the first to ReplyExcellent family Sunday lunch
Five adults and an 18 month old all had a fabulous lunch in this lively pub. The service was excellent and the food was exactly what we all wanted. Sunday roast , pork belly , Mackerel and one Suet crust pie. We all enjoyed our food and the deserts topped off a boozy family get together. Just what we all wanted. Well done to all at the Drapers.

I booked a table for 8 for my daughters birthday 4 of us ordered the leg of lamb what turned up was 4 lamb chump steaks dry and cold with reheated potatoes, so as not to cause a scene I complained via e-mail the next day , Rosie who answered my e- mail offered me a refund I accepted the refund which 1 month later I am still waiting for , the food was diabolical which is completely in synch with the customer service
Be the first to ReplyGreat for gluten-free
We came here with a group of friends and were really pleased to see so many gluten-free options available. The pork belly was divine!
Be the first to ReplySunday Roast.
Recommended the Sunday roast from a few friends and also saw it is in time outs top roasts in London - a very decent roast with friendly and helpful service.
Be the first to ReplyProper gastro pub
I have so many amazing memories of fantastic boozy garden lunches when this place first opened and for some reason we found new regular haunts. We returned last night for the first time in years and had a great meal. I really enjoyed the suet crust beef bourguignon pie. The atmosphere was cosy and convivial and service was good. We all agreed that The Drapers is back on our list of favourites in Islington.
Be the first to ReplyWorst experience in a restaurant/pub, ever!
From the moment we walked in the door, the waitress (and manager, we later found out) was very grumpy! We were two people and we were sat a large table for six. That was fine except that immediately after we had ordered our food, the waitress tried to seat a group of three people at the same table as us, even though the entire place was empty! We were there on a week night and the pub did not fill up. Luckily that group also thought that this was very strange and asked to be seated somewhere else! The menu looked nice and we were very hungry. We were celebrating, happy to be out for a meal and we decided to give the wait staff the benefit of the doubt; maybe they'd had a difficult day. We really tried, we were friendly and polite, it did not help at all. First, my partner was told that the warmed camembert starter would take "at least 20 min." When he looked at the waitress surprised, she said very sarcastically, "Well it has to be cooked, you know." He picked something else. The rice in my starter was raw and so crunchy, it was impossible to eat, I ate around it. We didn't complain, but things went from bad to worse anyway! The mains were good, but when the waitress served them, the plates were dropped loudly on to the table. We were unable to get anyone's attention to order more wine during our meal, and gave up. The waitress' behaviour was very strange and no better than the manager's. When we tried to order desert, I asked the waitress what Frangipane was. When she looked at me as if I had asked her something crazy, I politely explained that I don't speak French. She clearly didn't know and instead of admitting it, she slowly put her hands up, shrugged her shoulders and said, "Why don't you Google it?" and walked away. We wondered if she was new to The Drapers Arms or maybe to waitressing, but the manager was no better. Instead of telling me that Frangipane is like a bakewell tart, she angrily approached our table, said nothing and showed me pictures from a google search on her phone!! It was all very, very odd. We decided not to have desert. Then to add insult to injury, we were overcharged by £49. Seemingly other tables meals had been added to our bill. The manager did apologise about this. If it hadn't for the 12.5% service charge, we definitely would not have left a tip. We live locally and all of our family have enjoyed many a fantastic meal in The Drapers Arms over the years. The place has obviously changed hands, which is a real shame. The new wait staff are awful!!

How amazing to find a destination that serves food just as though your amazing foodie family had prepared a special meal just for you. From classic warmed Camembert and pickled condiments to pate with deli outs sourdough we worked out way up to shared platters. We went with the 7 hour slow cooked lamb, which was designed to be for 2-3 but easily went around 5-6 of us, mixed in with the fish and lentils and beef pie and a few simple but delicious sides such as cabbage with butter and chilli. Honestly amazing next level gastro meal - simple done exceptionally well. We were staying away on Regent St in Mayfair so it was a cruisy 4 train at stop from Oxford Circus plus a ten minute slow walk from the station. The location is in a very residential area which was a breath of fresh air to the chaos madness of central. Absolutely worth the effort. Side note - definitely book ahead. We were a table of 9pp and only just managed to get a table after a couple of days.
Be the first to ReplyDinner with friends, would have loved to hear or talk to them
Good food well above standard pub food , very good wine list, good service even if kitchen was slow, but so loud and noisy that I will not come back or advise it.
Be the first to ReplyEvening meal
Evening meal with the family, initially tried to book the The Pig and Butcher but was unable to get a reservation therefore chose this venue as it was nearby. Should have done some research I.e. looked at the reviews on Trip Advisor before eating as its rating which is currently 3.5 stars which is accurate if not a little on the generous side. Average food but nice location/part of the city.

Pretty depressing pub charging £5.90 for a single Jameson and dash of Pepsi Max. Might as well have had a pint, but that probably would have been a rip off too. Won’t hurry back that’s for sure.
Be the first to ReplyA special day ruined
Booked weeks in advance for a special farewell Sunday lunch as we used to value the quality of food. Our booking was for 2pm and two of our party arrived 10 minutes earlier only to find that the table that was reserved for us upstairs was taken by another group. We were sat at another table and did not mind or complaint about anything, even when our cote de boeuf was served with cold roast potatoes & veggies, but then, we were asked quite firmly twice within a few minutes time by two different members of the staff to finish and leave as they needed our table because the next booking had arrived - apparently they had too arrive much earlier as we’d been hardly 1h 40 min there and our table was booked for 2 hrs. No mention or suggestion by the staff to continue with our dessert and drinks downstairs before we decided to complaint about how rude it sounded to be asked to leave well before the 2-hour period allocated to parties of 3 and more as per the restaurant’s policy. On our way out with the most bitter feelings about our experience, we spotted many empty tables that we could have been offered to stay proactively and with a warm smile when they announced that our table was needed back, instead of engaging in a very unpleasant debate with the staff that involved counting the exact remaining minutes of our reservation. I think when a paying customer starts feeling a nuisance, the game is lost and the business should take time to check how they operate and what they ask their staff to communicate to customers. Needles to say we won’t be returning to Draper’s Arms after this.
Be the first to ReplySpring is on the way!
Tremendous lunch in the bar. Great, laid-back, jolly waitress who was on the ball. Visited on a chilly March day so was lucky to find both an optimistic and delicious Spring green risotto on the same menu as a rib-sticking, warming steamed sponge pudding and custard. Bliss.
Be the first to ReplyPARDON!!
Visited on a Sunday evening. We were allocated a table at the back of restaurant which was unfortunate as due to the acoustics of the room the noise level was deafening. The waitress was attentive enough to realise we were suffering and moved us to a front table where at least the noise level was tolerable. The food was OK but not great. We were overcharged on drinks which did not ruin our evening but just put the ‘nail in the coffin’ for this place. This is not the place for a romantic dinner or a night where you want to catch up with friends, unless you have a tolerance for loud noise and OK food!

Great food, great servive. Excellent location neat Angel. Arrived at 6.00 PM, the place was nearly empty. By 8.00 PM it was full on a Monday evening. Despite that, food arrived quickly and the place was still OK for s family dinner.

A lovely joint 40th birthday. Amazing food at this pub. The staff were extremely grumpy and hostile. If you’re talking to a friend and in their way they won’t ask you to move aside politely they will just try and walk through you to make a point. If it wasn’t for the amazing food their I wouldn’t go back.
Be the first to ReplyVery cosy and great service
Such a cosy pub! Really nice atmosphere and great service. Was new to the area and Adam behind the bar very kindly gave some recommendations on local activities. I’ll definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, friendly service and able to cater for a large group.
Visited with a large group for a Christmas lunch. The food, despite being a big group , was delicious and warm. Service helpful and friendly! We were also able to have a private room upstairs.
I would highly recommend!
Good food but expected more for the price
We were in for Sunday lunch and were seated promptly but the first thing we noticed was the waiter giving out dessert menus to the adjacent table but then after glancing at his watch immediately withdrawing them saying sorry but they needed the table back. They customers were putting their coats on when he came back and moved them to another table for dessert. This commotion didn't exactly set the tone for a relaxed afternoon. The thing about imposing time limits on tables is that you then have to serve food promptly, we just about used up our 2 hour time limit but only had the roast. We should have ordered straight away but the drinks were slow and so we didn't order for 20 minutes. it was then another 45 minutes before the food came. I actually enjoyed the food although it was overpriced and there is so much more to an enjoyable experience than the food alone.
