The Gidley Sydney Reviews from The Last Year
Best dining experience since before pandemic, by a mile
Not just best steak restaurant, what I mean is this is the best dining experience I’ve had post Covid full stop. Like it used to be when you choose a premium place you actually get a premium experience. Have been here twice, dinner with friends and lunch for work. Excellent meal, great menu, vino, excellent genuine service. Service team are pros, know their stuff and just treat you like an adult. Do yourself a favor and grab a few friends for a meal here. Top tip is the martini, just trust me, you’ll see 😉
A must go!
I was able to snag a last minute reservation at The Gidley. The spinalis was fantastic! Get the potatoes and the Brussels sprouts!
Good steaks but shy of excellent
The highlight of this restaurant is the steak but before going there, some comments about the entire experience. If you are not specifically looking for the place, you would have walked right past it, especially at night. The entrance is completely unlit down a short flight of stairs. The door can only be opened by pressing a buzzer to the right. Once opened you walk down a further flight of stairs to the bar area where you will typically wait before being seated. Very welcoming service all round, from being greeted at the counter to being seated and serves. We ordered some starters - Coral Lettuce, Herring. Both were excellent. We ordered the Spinalis and the boneless ribeye for mains. The Spinalis at 220 grams was a decent amount of steak but for really hungry carnivores it may be a bit petite. I have read so much about the Spinalis but mine came out not as well marbled as I like. It was tender and flavourful but I preferred the boneless ribeye better. The ribeye had a Smokey flavor which accentuâtes the beautifully marbled steak. The wine was really pricey and will surely burn a huge hole in your pocket. If you want to drink be prepared to part some serious money. The overall dining experience and food was a good one. However it fell just shy of excellent.
Great for meat lovers
Book this place, following a recommendation from a friend. Quite pricey wine list and the meats are priced based on weight mostly. The spinalis is the most interesting cut and a must have if you are eat here. The burger is also a classic, and cut into four by a waiter wearing white gloves. Overall, a good lunch spot for a client meeting
Outstanding
All round wonderful experience. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had and the sirloin was delicious. Cocktails fantastic - the martini and negroni must gets! Pecan pie for dessert also a must. Definitely heading back.
Good but not where it counts
We were recommended this restaurant with its phone policy, burger for entree (very nice) and magnificent steaks at a price. The atmosphere, the service were great, like a well oiled machine, this place has read everything on how to run a business and please your customer. The hero of this restaurant, the steak, was nothing special, have had better elsewhere. No matter they made their money on the exorbitantly priced drinks. With a drinks menu focused on bottled French wines I feel they could have more variety in wine by the glass.
Great experience and value for money
It started with a ‘Do you feel like steak? I know a place’ which, as we all know, can lead to some questionable outcomes. I found the staff professional and polite. Really enjoyed the no phone policy as well. Food was great and matched the service - clear communication on cooking time, frequent top up of beverages in a discreet but efficient manner. We kept is relatively simple so cannot comment on desserts or even entree but will def try next time. Not a cheap place, than again, i have paid more for a lot worse
Service amazing, Food Orgasmic
Outstanding food, the English cut & the Spiralis are worth the hype. It is not often that salad & fries are worth raving about but they are at The Gidley. Be sure to take a note of the booking system. It is a limited availability only open 30 days in advance. Totally worth it. Super convenient to St James station as well. We will be back.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
