Sydney is quite wonderful! So was our stay.
Fantastic location, fantastic price! Worn, but immaculatly clean. Delightful people, tiny pub on street level, larger one with nice menu up a floor. The street noise mentioned in all the other reviews was an issue due to construction, which was all over downtown, but what city doesn't have construction. Many huge historical pictures with explanations lined the streets. Breakfast room, pool table, nice little extras we didn't expect. We love unique, so The Grand suited us.
Be the first to ReplyAn affordable Sydney CBD option
Given how expensive Sydney CBD accommodation is, this is an option to consider. Accommodation is at a pub, where you need to check in at the ground floor bar. The bar is staffed from 8am, where you need to make arrangements if checking out earlier. The accommodation levels are levels 3, 4 and 5. On level 3 there is a breakfast area, where you have free breakfast cereal using the small long life milk cartons, bowls (you need to wash them after use), and disposable plastic cutlery. Hotel guests also have 10% off pub food / beverages, where happy hour drinks prices were good value. Positives: Price, private room with basin, fridge, TV, window, towels / shampoo. No security concerns. Hotel is very close to Wynyard Station (using George Street exit) for easy airport access. One way train ticket from domestic airport using my credit card to tap on / off cost $19.53 (do not need an Opal card). There is a shared shower / bath area and shared toilet, which seemed to be empty when I needed to use them. Very impressed at how clean these were. Negatives: lift was not working, so not ideal if you have mobility issues hauling luggage up the stairs. Room did not seem to have heating - I had a warm hoodie which I was glad I had. Room does not also have a table / chair if you want to do work or sit. Room lighting was a bit dim - only 1 room light. There is also a bit of street noise (not an issue for me, but for those who are more sensitive). Not much privacy where my room looked straight into offices and curtains in my room were difficult to fully shut. Overall I would stay again for a cheap CBD solo stay, particularly if I only needed to use the room to leave luggage and sleep.

Booked through Agoda on 4th June and received confirmation on the same day for 2 nights stay from 16-18 June but alas when we arrived at the hotel, they could not find the booking. Check in time was 2pm and we waited for more than an hour before we were told that Agoda would be calling me which I refused to answer as I was not willing to pay for oversea call charges. The hotel manager then told me that he would upgrade me to a family room for the night but they were fully booked for the 17th meaning I had to find another night accomodation again. Naturally I was upset as it took me some time to find another room and Agoda did not even have the courtesy to apologize. Moreover the refund that they would be making to me was on their website to be used by 24th July. Dan the hotel manager was very apologetic and even offered us drinks on the house but we declined. As for the hotel it is centrally located and nearby Tram stop, Wynyard Station and Circular Quay. Rooms were outdated but clean and separate bathroom and shower across from room as you only have a sink in the room. The lift is an antique with heavy doors and an experience to use! Kettle with free coffee and tea was inside the clothes cupboard. Most importantly, the location is perfect for walking around the city!!!!

Booked thru Agoda was under the impression pay when you arrive agoda sent a email 5 days prior to our arrival stating they attempted to take the payment but payment failed I contacted the Grand hotel explaining this they found the booking & told me the booking will be fine & could pay on arrival. We we arrived to check in they couldn't find the booking after about 1 hour later they offered us a twin room I also asked about our accommodation for our return trip the manager said it will be fine. After spending 2 days in Canberra we returned to the hotel to find out there was no booking after I rang the hotel in the morning they had no booking for us the manager said on the phone he would book us in for the 2 nights we wanted On arrival to the hotel no booking for our 2 nights spoke to the duty manager she told us that they could only offer us a room for 1 night not happy she mentioned another hotel down the road we called them but was booked out after speaking to the manager we took the room for the 1 night & we booked another hotel at Darling Harbour for the other night the manager offered us a free meal at the restaurant that we took up nice restaurant our meals were roughly valed at $150.00 all drinks encluded nice meal The rooms are not air-conditioned very dated bathrooms small only 2 bathrooms & 2 toilets on the floor. The elevator is old you have to open & close the doors manually very heavy doors very awkward when handling your luggage. Also the lift was out of service on the last night we were there I had to walk up to the 5th floor as the elevator was stuck at the basement someone (staff) didn't close the doors completely so the elevator was stuck there. The rooms were clean

Extremely rude female bartender. Donโt know why she decided to take a disliking to myself and my friends but she took a personal disliking to us and was so rude , wouldnโt ever go back and donโt recommend this place to any female group

Check in at Bar 2:30pm. Friendly service. Old fashioned manual door lift up to room, adds charm! Room tidy with tv, fan (no air con), single bed and sink. Shared bathroom nearby. Stayed for an event in city so only needed somewhere to crash until morning trains. Had a few nightcaps late in the bar downstairs. Was appreciated. All staff were very polite and allowed me one final drink at last order. Price was right on Agoda. Cheapest i could find for own room. Location is ace nearby Tram stop, Wynyard Station and Circular Quay. Will stay again for a city visit.

Comfy bed, clean, quiet and brilliant location. Easy walk to the beach, good cafes for breakfast and meal in the restaurant was very nice too. Also walking distance to greet restaurants etc Highly recommend for a short stay.

Stayed here two nights. great location. Good price. Easy check in. Friendly staff. Nice clean rooms and bathrooms. Have stayed a few times and like it a lot. Nice and quiet. Good breakfast room too. Highly recommend

Very clean and good comfy beds. The breakfast room was fantastic, and having access to it 24/7 was an added bonus. If you don't mind creaky floors and an antiquated lift, but rather love the older decor, this is the place for you.
