Great hotel friendly staff great food
Just returned from the hotel after a lovely weekend. The the moment we arrived the staff we friendly and welcoming. I let the hotel know it was my wife and our friends birthday treat so they upgraded us the the Big Comfy Luxe With Terrace which were great rooms. We ate in the lobster shed in the afternoon which was great food and then the main restaurant in the evening. The service and food I could not fault. We will definitely be returning at some point.

We received such a warm welcome it made it feel really special. The staff are super friendly and helpful at all times. Our cosy room was just that - cosy. Not huge but had everything you needed. Products are lovely. Breakfast was really delicious with plenty of options. Thoroughly recommended.

We spent a thoroughly delightful and relaxing three days at the Pig. Our room was extremely comfy and quiet - with lots of lovely touches. We found the staff to be really friendly and helpful - with them remembering where weโd been and asking how our day has been with genuine interest. They were also very helpful in arranging a taxi to and from Padstow. A really wonderful stay, thank you.

Loved everything about my stay at this hotel . Fabulous staff with that great โPig โrelaxed but attentive style. Food was spot on. Great model for operating modern hospitality- who needs formal ? Not me - well done for being different but disciplined- very well executed .
Be the first to ReplySuper relaxing and revitalising break
I had the most delightful 3 night stay - I needed a break to completely relax on my own and I'm so glad I chose the pig at Harlyn. The staff were super friendly, extremely attentive but relaxed and made me feel very well looked after (remembering small details of what I liked as well as my allergies). Thank you so much!

I was excited to stay at The Pig and had high expectations. I left quite disappointed and like I fell for their marketing. Positives - The setting is lovely and I can imagine even nicer in the summer. I loved the decor and the rooms are stunning. The breakfast was very good and the standard I was expecting from The Pig. It was a bit odd to be told by a waitress we had to leave our table when it wasnโt even 10 am and we were clearly finished and would leave shortly anyway. Negatives - Staff is friendly enough, but seem inexperienced and are not attentive to guests considering it wasnโt particularly busy either. The dinner was not very impressive. We went for the vegetarian options. My risotto was watery with a few lumps of blue cheese. We got no soup spoon for the soup and the bread was served to us after our starters. It seemed to be a lack of a manager as diners were not served in the order they arrived etc so just a bit chaotic. After dinner we tried a few times to order drinks from the bar. We were told to sit down as it was table service, but no one arrived. In the end we just went to our rooms. It wasnโt busy so this surely cannot be good for business? Overall - I think you can have a nice enough stay at the pig. I wouldnโt personally dine there again, but perhaps we were just unlucky. I thought the places lacked ambiance. A bit style over substance and that you can spend your money with better returns elsewhere as there are so many lovely hotels in Cornwall.
Be the first to ReplyWarmth, comfort and Excellenceโฆโฆ
Go through the front door to this pig set on the cliff top looking over Harlyn Bay on a cold January weekend and enter a world of warmth, comfort and superb food. Staff all speak to you and are always there should you decide to want a coffee or hot chocolate. No expense is spared on the comfort of the rooms with big beds and soft linens. Chefs use only the best locally sourced food, great choices on the menus, all cooked to perfection matched to an extensive wine cellar list. There around 8 or so Pigs in the Southern part of the UK and while each is very unique they all have the same level of attention to deal. Thereโs nothing you could find fault with, the food is excellent, the staff are lovely. Itโs not cheap, but then running and staffing these places costs a lot, so it is what it is. Thank you Harlyn, brilliant job done.
Be the first to ReplyPoor experience in quiet season!
Just one more venue trying to do everything, and not achieving on anything. We waited almost 10minutes at the entrance to be shown through (we poked our head through twice, but there was no one even at the bar) Once we did get seated, our coats were taken and we were told they'd be straight back with drinks menus... Another 10minutes, seemingly forgotten about completely. The bar was cosy, but noisy, drinks took a while, and the cocktails quite plainly, were aweful. I appreciate it would be offensive to anyone's pride to be told the work you had just done was poor, but when we politely suggested the drinks were not up to scratch we were scoffed at and the bar maid tried to make us feel as though we just weren't used to "real cocktails". This set us off on a bad note, and though we continued through for dinner, we perhaps should not have. We had to ask for a wine menu after ordering our meals, starters were pretentious and very lacking, and the steak was over cooked, small, and flavourless. Wine came at the point they should have been doing a check back on our meals, so we ended up skipping desert and taking wine away with us. Note, no adjustments to service charge or bill despite the cocktails not being drunk and issues being raised. Zero effort was made to send us away happy, and their didn't seem to be a manager on duty in any area of the hotel. More than ยฃ100/head left us a little sour, and feeling we could've got better value for money from the local kebab shop.

We had a magical short break and cannot fault any aspect of our visit. The staff are superb, cheery, helpful, engaged and obviously well trained. The food was sublime each night without exception. The whole atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. We walked each day along glorious coastal paths in the rain and gales, returning to the bliss which is The Pig. Bravo!

We have just been for the most amazing, delicious meal! I would like to say a special thank you to the lovely Lara who served us. She is an absolute credit to the restaurant and added to the whole experience. Such a beautiful, welcoming and warm environment. Thank you to catering to my allergies too! lWe shall definitely come back. Sally and Damian :)

We had a lovely overnight stay here in November. We arrived early, and although our room was ready we decided to head to the bar for cake and coffee, a good start. We had a great chat with the barman about the infusions they had, which were very interesting, something for later. The room was spacious yet cosy, the bathroom perfect. Just time to relax before a quiet aperitif over a board game in the snug. Dinner was delicious. We all tried something different and the kitchen delivered. Onwards to the bar where Jordan looked after us, thank you to Jordan. Iโm sure we will be happy to return for another visit.

First stay at a Pig although weโve eaten at a coupleโฆ Warm welcome & helped with luggage to our room which was slightly surprisingโฆlow angled ceilings and tiny windows made it difficult to even see outside easilyโฆbasin next to the bed with shower right next to it and loo behind a door with lots of gaps in it may mean the โStonehouseโ upper rooms may not be for guests who donโt know each other rather intimately! Every little thing has been thought of from high end Nespresso machine & kettle to bottles of milk and water in your fridge & treats if you want a midnight snack! Beautiful linens & pillows & a very comfortable bed sort of made up for the somewhat cramped conditions (not a cheap room btw!) A small TV had to suffice because that was all there was space for and the โwardrobeโ couldnโt be accessed without moving the chair in front of it which was a slight irritationโฆ We did ask for a room change but hotel was full so that wasnโt possibleโฆtwo glasses of champagne offered as an apology were appreciatedโฆa bath in the corner was lovely to have but very darkโฆalso under the eaves - ok for me but anyone more than 6โ would really struggle not to encounter a head injury during their stayโฆmy partner banged his head quite badly on the low ceiling - beware! Food - first night we had all fish courses finishing with a rhubarb jelly and sorbet none of which could be faultedโฆwe enjoyed it so much we cancelled our reservation at Steinโs on night two and ate โinโ instead - quite a different experience! Same dish on night two was completely different! Sole was swimming in butter and barely warm, several components of the dish served on night one were missingโฆwhen reported the response was โoh, sorryโ! Donโt want to nit pick as most staff we encountered were absolutely lovely, willing and friendly & engagingโฆhowever, please sort out your kitchen inconsistenciesโฆif a dish canโt be served consistently over two sittings thatโs a major problem with your kitchen and staffโฆ Overall, a pleasant experience but Iโd be wary about eating in the restaurant when the season gets busier? Lots of style and small touches which we loved but maybe something slightly more substantial than โoh sorryโ when things arenโt quite right would put up your guest experience satisfaction percentages without too much difficulty? Special thanks to Beth who went out of her way to be helpful and make our stay happy!
Be the first to ReplySupper following treatments . Awesome staff.
We had two great treatments at the potting shed followed by Joโs marvellous cocktails then dinner. I have not always been too impressed by the vegetarian food here, but have to say my food was absolutely delicious as were my husbands two fish courses. As ever, the wine advice was spot on and we enjoyed a scrumptious Tokaj. The staff continue to be extraordinary here.. helpful, knowledgable and friendly. We will certainly come back.
Be the first to Reply10/10 perfect stay in relaxed hotel
We visited the pig for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. When we arrived they had upgraded us which made our stay even more special and they were so kind and accommodate- giving of a really relaxed friendly vibe. The first day we went for dinner at Paul Ainsworth's No6 and they kindly arranged a taxi for us. We finished our evening with a cocktail in the bar before retreating to our cabin to stick the fire on. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of London couldnโt have been made more perfect. Breakfast was ace- so many nice touches and the cinnamon buns were fab. I also had a hot stone massage in the potting sheds which was hands down the best hot stone I have had. The dinner was also lovely - quite pricey but I think you are also paying for the great service and relaxed cosy atmosphere which was well worth it. They have a great wine selection too. The wee touches we particularly loved was the games in the back room- we sat by the fire one day with a wine and relaxed. They also have wellie boots for exploring the groups which was great- cute piggies! Padstow is also lovely - we ran along the coast from the hotel to padstow in the morning and even managed a swim in Harlyn Bay which is such a stunning beach! Amazing stay and thanks for making it so memorable! Sarah & Hugh Mackenzie

My wife and I went for lunch on 10th February 2023. Our first visit and one we were looking forward to. It is a lovely venue in a grand old country house. Sadly our filleted fish was overcooked and the service was too slow. We were not in a hurry but had to attract the waiter's attention each time we wanted service. We received an apology for the overcooked fish but considering Cornwall specialises in fish one would hope it could be cooked well at the Pig.

Overall a lovely place and well located. A pretentious atmosphere and it would have been nicer with a more humble approach. If you pay for the more expensive lookout rooms in the old building, expect the morning delivery van being an alarm clock. The driver reverses a long stretch with the reverse alarms siren, complimented by the loud radio. Not an ideal alarm clock between 6:30am to 7am everyday. No price lists in the room so you have no idea what is chargeable.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding venue and service let down by some minor irritations.
We enjoyed an overnight stay B&B and bottle of wine package and also used a 3 course dinner for two voucher weโd been gifted earlier in the year to complete the experience and celebrate an anniversary and birthday. The Pig is a beautiful building and well located for Trevose Head and some wonderful coastline. Great for walking, beaches and exploring Cornwall. The accommodation was lovely and the staff hospitality and attention to detail first class with some nice personalised touches. 3 course dinner was a treat although the Gamekeeper Pie not memorable (minced meet in a thin sauce and only average pastry). The vegetable sides were outstanding and breakfast could not be faulted. Nevertheless, our only real critical comments were that wine price mark up was bordering on the extortionate and the piped muzak in every public room was a real intrusion. You donโt need it. Please just turn it off! Thank you to all the staff though - your enthusiasm for the Pig and pride in your work was plain to see.

Be the first to ReplyBirthday lunch
We took my daughter for a fabulous birthday lunch just before Christmas. The food was superb and the staff were very attentive and friendly, creating a very relaxed atmosphere. What was particularly lovely was their attention to detail, I hadnt mentioned that it was her birthday but the waitress had picked up on this and produced a lovely suprise treat. The Christmas pudding was the best i have ever tasted, the home made pasta was amazing as was the fish. I loved the whole ethos of sourcing food locally and the beautiful kitchen garden. It was very quite but I think that this is probably due to being immediately pre Christmas and Christmas guests not yet arrived. I would thoroughly recommend a visit. A little tip - if you are adventurous try out the Sauna on the Beach at Harlyn Bay with a dip in the sea!!!!

I went for a weekend stay with my partner this month and it completely exceeded my expectations. From arrival, staff were friendly and helpful and showed us places we could sit and wait until our room was ready. There were several cosy areas to spend a few hours, and sitting by the fire was an extra bonus. Every interaction with staff was a positive one; they were very knowledgeable about the menus and answered all questions with ease. The food was great, very โwholesomeโ and just what youโd expect from that kind of place. We particularly enjoyed breakfast. The room was beautiful and one of the nicest Iโve stayed in; I usually struggle to get a good night sleep when staying away but this bed was so comfy so there were no issues. It was also very peaceful and quiet so I had no noise complaints. There was a coffee machine with good quality coffee and some completely products. All Iโd say was that the rooms did not have Smart TVโs with Netflix etc. All in all, it was a fantastic stay and weโve already planned to go back.
Be the first to ReplyLuxury without the pretentiousness
Just spent 3 days at The Pig at Harlyn Bay. We love the Pigs, having stayed at 3 different Pigs in the past; a deliberate part of our UK travels after coming from the other side of the World. This is unpretentious luxury in which you get high quality shabby chic, amazingly presented local fresh food, and old-world style without the snobbery. There are countless reviews that explain The [different] Pig[s] and its setting, anesthetic and food quality, so no need to be repetitive. While the ammenities are amazing, its the staff who are the key, and that's a huge part of why we return. Here, I want to speak to atmosphere: regardless that The Pig(s) tend to draw those considered to be 'monied' (its certainly not a budget transit hotel!), the staff create a relational atmosphere where those who are not 'monied' (us) feel part of The Pig family. That's the unpretentiousness I spoke about. The other day I was chatting with one of the staff. Again, I was told (as I was in the past) that the majority of critical comment regarding The Pig(s) comes from select (often highly 'monied') clients who feel Pig staff lack professionalism and are 'over familiar'. Essentially, these people were complaining that staff were not consciously acknowledging their 'monied' status and instead were being 'relational' and treating everyone as equal. To those who complain about this kind of 'genuine' service, I feel The Pig(s) should create a sign and display it at their entry point saying, 'Please leave your narcissism at the gate. If this is not possible, then turn around and go home'. We love The Pig(s), and will return because we feel welcome. Keep it up Pig-staff; you are all legends!
Be the first to ReplySo disappointing
We regularly eat at the Pig in Honiton and absolutely love it, as we live in Cornwall we were very excited to try the new one at Harlyn Bay. But we were so disappointed......as soon as we arrived we noticed that it just wasn't as nice, the setting of the hotel didn't have much to it and then the food was absolutely awful, we didn't enjoy any of it and even the orange juice tasted like it was from a cheap carton. We certainly won't go again. It's such a shame because we love the whole concept of the Pigs, especially the fact they use locally grown and sourced food but you would never believe that at this particular Pig!

Very poor overall: A) phoned ahead to let them know we were a party of 6 not 7- table set for 6 B) ordered 5 cokes. 4 arrived. Got charged for 6 C) food was very oily & greasy (eg risotto and soup had a 1/2 centimetre of oil on top D) roast potatoes had been re-heated and not cooked from fresh- when youโre paying ยฃ25 for a roast this is not acceptable E) asked for a re-fill for water - had to ask 3 times -overall poor quality food and service for the price. Living off its name only
