BLD all very good
We stayed for a few days and experienced breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Promenade. The staff are well trained, efficient, friendly and courteous, and make you feel welcome. Breakfast: There is a note at the counter advising of possible delays after 8am, so we went early. A full range of items including smoked salmon and the best smoked ham; fresh whole fruit and cut melon etc; eggs cooked to order; delicious pastries, excellent brewed coffee and also cappucinos etc. Lunch: We only wanted a small lunch. No club sandwiches and BLT on the menu, but we had the most delicious salmon and tuna roll (with seaweed and a great dressing), tempura zucchini flowers, spicy grilled mushrooms and some veg- to share- just right. Dinner: the seafood buffet must be the best we have ever had outside Asia. Fresh oysters, prawns, blue swimmer crab, salmon gravalax , charcuterie, soup (spicy cauliflower and corn); salads. The hot dishes in the bain maries- were all delicious and moist. Many buffets serve roast meats that are dry and tough, but the roast beef here was perfect- not rare, but still moist and tender. Desserts included bread and butter pudding, fruit panacotta and big range of little cakes etc to try. A great offering for $90pp. This restaurant is great- good food, no fuss, competent staff. Well done.

We went with 2 families at 9am as a treat for the kids finishing a really tough school year. We were hoping to surprise them with some 'wow' factor. Really lovely food with lots of choices. Dishes were super tasty, the only thing that was out of stock was the scrambled eggs and they were filled up before we reached them at the end of the hot food line. The 10 y/o amongst us exclaimed it was the best day of their life! I'm already planning my next visit. This time I'll skip my piece of toast in hope that I have room for a pastry!
Be the first to ReplySlow service and very limited over priced menu.
The staff were friendly but there were significant (unacceptable) delays in service. The shared bread basket (ordered as an entre) was not served until the main meal arrived. One main course was not accompanied by the side dish ordered and after finally attracting the attention of the wait staff, it arrived after the main meal had been consumed. Replenishment of wine glasses from the purchased bottle was equally slow. Despite the very limited dessert menu, it took some 25 minutes to reach the table after placing the order. In all, this restaurant has a very limited over priced menu and falls well short of what might be expected of a so called five star restaurant,
Be the first to ReplyJust too long to wait
When we booked for dinner we had a choice of either 6pm or 7.30pm as there was a big group booked for 6.30pm. We chose 6pm and arrived on time, ordered a drink then placed our order before 6.30pm. The entree arrived which was very good, then the wait started, 1.5 hours later and much complaing to the staff we finally got our main course which was pretty disappointing, my steak which I ordered medium well was rare and my wifeโs pork was mainly unrendered fat,a total disappointment.
The large table were all served their main meal before we got ours, they must have been SPECIAL PEOPLE, not just an average couple like us. Anyway we were not charged for our meal and another table near us who also had the same problem werenโt charged either, but too little too late, just such bad service by the kitchen. The wait staff were very good and apologetic but they had no control over what happened. A very average meal with terrible service from the kitchen.
Not good!
Had oysters followed by pork belly first night. Pork belly overcooked and tough. Thought Iโd try the sirloin second night. Medium rare. It arrived cooked well past medium. Dry and a task to eat it. Must treat myself to a real restaurant when I get back to Sydney. Donโt bother eating here. Drive or Uber to Braddon or Manuka.

We had breakfast with a relative you was staying as a guest from interstate. The booking system was terrible. It took three days for someone to reply to our telephone request to book after we found that the on-line booking system would not work. The actual meal was quite good, although a little expensive. The restaurant atmosphere was excellent, and waiter service most attentive. However, my course arrived almost 15 minutes after the others. It was for an omelette, which should not be too difficult. Something went wrong. I think the restaurant is capable of great meals but needs better management.
Be the first to ReplyNo buffet any more, but still a great place for breakfast!
We were shown to a table by the window where we had to fill out our preferences for breakfast. Coffee/tea is served immediately and the food not long afterwards. Wait staff are excellent, as is the food. The restaurant is beautifully presented and always a pleasure to visit.
Be the first to ReplyChristmas Eve lunch good but could be better.
We enjoyed the wonderful ambience that Hyatt offers and were prepared to pay the buffet price considering the special occasion.
The 2 hours allocated, does feel a little rushed. The service, though mostly friendly was not up to par with what you would expect at a Hyatt, for example at Raku, you never waited for the water to be topped up or had to look for someone to take another drink order. Once a waiter was aware that you wished to ask for something they were very friendly. The difference between a 5 star and 3 is the attention to detail.
We had booked 2 vegetarian options. initially, the waiter looked confused when reminded then returned with their main dish completely, forgetting the entre for the vegetarians. After the main meal, they had the entre served ( antipasto platter) which was very disappointing for them and felt unwelcomed.
Considering how many restaurants now cater to all diets with creative direction...example, Monster kitchen serving vegetarian for 365 days, we were surprised at the what was served. Out of the mains, the gnocchi was good. For non-vegetarain the seafood was great, and your standard turkey good. Not sure about the roast. There is a lot of waste...I would rather receive less with amazing food than a lot of good food and waste. We had built this lunch up to be amazing as it was our first visit and though good it was unfortunate the experience did not exceed expectations.
over priced for what is being offered
the setting is wonderful as is the staff. The food and its pricing is a major reason I will not be attending again.
for almost $200 which was rack of lamb had too much fat in it and the duck was just reasonable.
There are many other restaurants in Canberra offering better quality foods for less and at this stage we will be going to them. I might try this restaurant in 12 months but at this stage I will be recommending to my friends not to eat here unless you have a very big pocket
After a very bad experience last visit I am pleased to report that they have lifted their game!
Went to the Hyatt for dinner two weeks ago for my husbands birthday dinner. They are not able to offer the usual Friday/Saturday night buffet - however they did have a seafood platter for 2 and the most beautiful rump steak for two people to share. The restaurant (cafe) has been redecorated since we last visited and was very pleasant. The wait staff were courteous and attentive. I would definitely return with family or friends.
Be the first to ReplyDinner here could be so much better
The breakfast at the restaurant was of a high quality with plenty of healthy options and egg station.
Dinner was not at the same level. The service was very good but the food was not at the level we expected and was expensive for what was on offer. The a la carte dishes were well below average.
The salad buffet was good with some seafood and fish. However, the hot dishes were pretty ordinary. This could be so much better to match the service and amenities of this excellent 5 star hotel.
