One of my favorite places in Fulton Market! I've only been for brunch but it has been great every time! The bacon is AMAZING, we got the waffle and schnitzel this time. The waffle was nice and crispy. Definitely recommend as part of any Chicago visit, but not the most vegetarian-friendly.
Be the first to ReplyI came here with a party of four.
Getting a reservation was very easy. The moment we were sat we were treated extremely well by our server. We ordered drinks (Negroni was amazing) as well as the bread with pimento cheese, the tikka masala scallops, the hay smoked ham chop, the bbq carrots, and the Brussels sprouts. Everything was prepared extremely well and tasted amazing. No notes on what could be approved. The pimento cheese and the pork chop had a southern flair and were immediate standouts. We asked our server what dessert would he recommend: the carrot cake and the tart. He recommended the tart so we ordered it. Then he sent over both because he thought we should experience both. Absolutely incredible meal and would def come back.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great time at brunch at The Publican.
The potatoes were an amazing side to share. Our server was really helpful and friendly. I wish they had more gluten free options.
Be the first to ReplyGreat drinks & the oyster happy hour rules.
Service was also very good, but food was a bit mediocre and I would have been a bit disappointed had I paid standard price instead of happy hour prices. Beef fat frites are good but really really rich, schnitzel & sausage were just alright
Be the first to ReplyMy goodness, the sunchoke dish was an absolute stunner.
I've never had sunchoke like that before. Usually you barely taste it in a dish, NOT here. Imagine a small baked potato, but it just tastes like fresh artichoke. I could eat 5 plates of it in a sitting. Easily. I went in for at least 3 helpings of the brussels sprouts, so creamy and flavorful. For being a meat place, they really do the veggies right. I am not a sweets person but they brought the dessert cart by the table after dinner and yeah, it worked. The carrot cake, heavenly. Hint of spice, cream cheese drizzle. Kept some leftover and had with coffee the next day. And the bread. The BREAD. Thick, soft slices slathered with butter. I need a couple more baskets of that, too. Tried the lime lager (Half Acre). Why don't I see this beer everywhere?! It's refreshing and tasty. Service was great, fun seating for smaller parties. I finally see what all the fuss is about.
Be the first to ReplyRevisited Publican after an approx.
six year hiatus. Service was just ok as one member of our party waited 25 minutes for his beer. Waitress kept forgetting on a night that had a 1/2 filled house. Asked about the entrees and were advised that they were big and definitely shareable- WRONG! Small portions were covered in garnishes, bread to cover up small portions. If you want to spend a LOT of Money for slightly above average, small portion foods - this is the place to be! Unfortunate as we were all out for a nice evening and really looking forward to this promise of an excellent experience and got a below average one instead..

Really great brunch here! The portions are generous and everything was really impressive. Food is family style and comes out as ready so it was a really quick experience.

Sirloin was excellent, definitely my favorite dish of the night. Barbecue carrots were also yummy. Started with 6 oysters that were quickly finished. Also got the frites with garlic aoli! Service was quick and friendly. It is very loud, which makes sense given the layout of the dining room and many parties sitting together.
Be the first to ReplyI can't think of a meal that I have enjoyed more.
We got the beard plate, which was fire. Brussel sprouts that was probably the best I have ever had. One of us had ham and the other a sirloin and you couldn't go wrong with either. Staff was kind and made sure everything was amazing. We even got dessert because we enjoy everything so much.

Nice ambiance, good drinks/beer selection, and simple, yet interesting meal options. The espresso martini, the sunchokes and the chefs choice of oysters were fabulous. We had the country steak for our meat and it was average, if anything.
Be the first to ReplyFood was so creative and delicious.
I can't believe we haven't been sooner. One thing I wish I had known in advance, there are private tables and shared communal tables. We were seated in a booth that felt very reminiscent of a pig stall (intentionally). I do wonder how someone with mobility limitations would be able to navigate either the booths or the communal table. Noise level is fairly high. The food was incredible - I don't normally love pork belly but this has changed my mind. It was so perfectly crispy and juicy and flavorful. My mouth is watering just remembering as I write this. The salad was also incredible, I would eat that every day if I could. Everything else was delicious and quite unique, I was sure what to expect with the baked clams but again so tasty. We did the wine pairing which was nice as well.
Be the first to ReplyMy first trip here was for brunch on a Saturday morning.
We sat at the bar area. Smoked Salmon Dip was really good-served with capers over hash browns. The Little Gem lettuce was tasty as well. The cinnamon roll with pecans was a great start.

There is nothing you can prefer as a business traveler. Exceptional service, incredible ambiance, you must go here.
Be the first to ReplyLong overdue review, but I went here for the first time
Long overdue review, but I went here for the first time during Chicago Restaurant Week this year! We went here to start off restaurant week on the first day and what a great start it was! Out of the places we tried during restaurant week, this was the best! Overall ambience is very casual; families were dining, couples on dates, friends having a good time over food and drinks. Our server was awesome, very tentative, cool, and explained to us what each dish we were given! Finally food--so, dang, good! Of course can't do restaurant week without doing their fixed menu, so on their menu we got 3 courses and dessert! We tried their Smoked Fish Dip with bread first as a starter--WOW. This alone was so tasty and simple, yet we'd come back just to order this with drinks, and we're golden! There were 3 of us dining, so we got to try both 1st course options of sweet potatoes and broccoli romanesco. 2nd course--bouchot mussels & we all agreed this was what we obsessed over the most. They served this in this butter/garlic sauce, along with French bread and even when the mussels were all done, we were soaking up that sauce with the bread because it was just SO DELICIOUS. We're coming back for that dish alone. 3rd course we all wanted the butchers steak and the meat was so tender, juicy, and very flavorful; cooked very well! As for dessert, it was a "toasted mallow", chocolate cremeux, graham cracker crumb, & chicory ice cream--essentially a fancy version of a s'more almost! It was good, but I think we couldn't fully enjoy it because we were so stuffed from the previous courses! Overall, food was amazing, and we would definitely come back again! Not bad for the start we had for restaurant week!
Be the first to ReplyWe came for happy hour drinks and stayed through dinner.
Amazing food options -- highly recommend ordering the pork loin. My partner still can't stop talking about how well seasoned and moist it was. My favorite was the mushroom fondue! Everything else we ate was pretty sub-par compared to other restaurants in Chicago and nothing to write home about. The cocktails from the happy hour menu were not tasty so don't recommend. Overall, the service was fine, the front staff were very kind. The ambience was ok, very spot on German/Polish style hall from my experience traveling. I do think everything is overpriced though.

Went there for brunch - the ambiance and booth seating is nice and the service was friendly.Unfortunately, that's where the good part ends. The plate I got was more of boiled baby potatoes (and not the crispy breakfast potatoes | expected). I love potatoes so it was fine but it did get filling and felt like a lot. The egg was alright, nothing special. Overall a 3/10 for a brunch dish. The most annoying part came when it was time to pay. They bring the card reader directly to you which would be great except, you don't get much time to think about the tip. They also have it set up so the highest percentage of tip is on the side you'd expect to be lowest. So you don't notice the extra 3% hospitality charge and I accidentally tipped almost 100% (the dish was $11.59 the tip was $10.10). This totally ruined my experience because tipping the cost of my whole dish was not what I ever expected. That practice is disgusting, and while i would have tipped my waitress a good amount anyways, being tricked into tipping way by way of pressure and impatient shoving of the small screen in your face is not the way to go. Would not recommend and will not be returning. If you are going to go, be very careful when you go to pay. Side note for restaurants:You can bring the card reader over and let people actually go over the bill like they do in Europe, instead of just saying the total out loud and skipping right to the tip page and shoving it in their face.
Be the first to ReplyThe food and cocktails excellent.
Shrimp & grits was very tasty. The Publican is a great spot for brunch outing.
Be the first to ReplyAfter 15 years in business, this wonderful restaurant
After 15 years in business, this wonderful restaurant successfully maintains the highest quality of the meats and breads it is known for. Duck and pork rillettes were very tasty and accompanying bread was a delicacy by itself. My sweetbreads served with maple braised greens, bacon & caper salsa verde were outstanding. One of the most popular dishes, porchetta, merited all the acclaim. Our server was so nice that she even offered us a dessert on the house. I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to come back to try the fish selection. Bravo!

Came for dinner on a Saturday night with a group of five and thought it was an overall fine experience. I really enjoyed all the food we ordered - the carrots, beets and pork stand out,l - but overall thought the vibe of the restaurant was a bit strange. Our waitress didn't seem super knowledgeable about the menu and wasn't very helpful as we were deciding on shared plates. The family style seating wasn't my favorite either, though we were lucky enough to have our own table. I wouldn't come back to try again.
Be the first to ReplyWent during restaurant week we're excited to try it.
Funky space but it works. Great for big groups!! Did restaurant week menu for two of us. Broccoli dish ok. Sweet potato amazing loved the curry with sweet sauces. Mussels were good and bread excellent with it. The skate schnitzel was amazing. The beef was good as well. We also ordered fries which were great. We were stuffed. Had a hard time finding wine bottle we wanted but gave us some excellent Griuner while we waited

Had an amazing time at The Publican for dinner! My absolute favorite thing about the meal was the 24oz Bone-In Pork Chop. My husband got the Butchers Steak and also said that his was phenomenal. Service was exceptional and I cannot wait to come back. The Happy Hour is pretty awesome too, great drinks and the Happy Hour Oysters were killer. A1 !

We originally went here for Restaurant Week, but decided to order from their regular menu. Totally recommend their RW menu as well! Expect it to be packed, a bit loud, and have a bit of a wait, but it'll be worth it. The servers are friendly and offer their faves from the menu. Cocktails here are amazing. Especially recommend the Oaxacan Cafe. We had the roasted carrots to start and they were perfection. Creamy, nutty, toasty, and delicious. The fresh dill was a nice pop. I had the scallops for my main and my oh my. The flavors were unexpected compared to scallops I've had in the past, but they pair them with a cauliflower purée and parsnips. Dessert is a must for us so we ordered the Toasted Marshmallow even though we were stuffed. It's to die for. Hazelnut, toasted marshmallow, crunchy graham cookies, and a smooth chocolate bed underneath it all. My fave! We'll be back for sure - thank you for a great experience and enjoy Restaurant Week 2023!
Be the first to ReplyProbably the worst dining experience of my life.
Came here on Sunday for brunch with two out of town guests after hearing this place was good. Couldn't be farther from the truth. After we were seated, the server ignored us for about 15 min. When we finally ordered, it took over an hour for all of the entries to come out. The food was brought out in a piecemeal fashion. The server kept assuring us that the items were "on the way" but we just kept waiting. The first item took close to 35 min to arrive. Two out of the three of us ordered a burger. One burger came out in 40 min and the second one came 20 minutes later?! How is that even possible? My friends were done with their meals before mine even arrived. Just embarrassing for everyone involved. I feel bad for subjecting my friends to such horrible treatment and frankly embarrassed this place exists. The fact this place is in Fulton Market is shameful to that neighborhood and overall a poor representation of the Chicago food scene. They did try to give us some free pastries and some beers that we didn't want because we were not drinking. After I complained to the waiter on how poor the service was, a manager came out with the burger I ordered and blamed the poor service on a large group of 14. To set the scene, this place was maybe a 1/3 full. I stated to the manager that I will not pay for this meal due to the pure negligence. The assistant GM then spoke to us and comped the meal and apologized for wasting out time. Honestly, this experience ruined our day. I honestly cannot believe how big of an epic failure this was from start to finish. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone with a pulse. The food was also sub-par. The hash-browns were burnt/cold and we requested the bacon to be crispy and it was soft and frankly not good. Not sure how you can mess up bacon, but they found a way to do it. I barely touched my burger due to anger and a lost my appetite due to the dismal service. This place should be ashamed of the service, food and lack of communication. Everyone, save yourself a trip to this place and literally go anywhere else.

Came here for a Sunday brunch with friends - the set up of the place is interesting. There are shared long tables and also very secluded booths. We sat at a booth which was very nice. We got the mimosas for the table (1 bottle of Prosecco and orange juice) ordered the fundito which was delicious - if you're going to order anything here, definitely order the bacon!! The waiter was very attentive and helpful!!

I do not like bringing Karen energy into the world but trying to frame my experience here as anything other than awkward/unpleasant would be false. Made a reservation for two at one of the big long tables for early evening. Was walked to our seat, and was told "we're going to be very busy later so if you can hurry up, that'd be great." It was such an odd thing to say that we laughed, but it wasn't haha funny it was funny weird. There was one other party of three and then empty chairs all around. The food was pretty good, the beer was a bit flat, but that initial impression sat with us like so many a fatass pig hanging from the wall.
