The Strathkinness Tavern Reviews from The Last Year
Quaint pub & restaurant
We had been staying at lodges in Cupar, and The Tavern had been recommended as a place to eat. We were not disappointed. On arrival, we had a warm greeting and shown to our table. The waitress was polite , courteous, and friendly. There was a wait of 40 minutes for our food, but it was freshly cooked to order .We had the steakpie and the haggis chicken both were lovely, we didn't manage dessert . We will definitely be back when we are in the area.
Fantastic food and service
Amazing food at and amazing place with lovely friendly staff. Ate here on Monday and they coped with a group of 11 of us (including 2 children) with no issue. All food was lovely and came within a reasonable time. The children's menu is the same menu as the main menu just with smaller portions resulting in a happy child as she could have what everyone else was having. Very reasonably priced. If we are in the area again we will definetly be back.
Great little pub, but not dog-friendly.
Had a lovely meal here and finished it off by listening to the folk musicians and singers in the band. Great ambiance and friendly pub. The only disappointment was that they are no longer dog-friendly in the bar which puts them at a disadvantage with many of the great St Andrews pubs.
Very pleasant location with great food
Great meal with myself and the wife after reading some previous reviews, great food with background folk Monday music from some locals jamming which was very pleasant. Food was all home made and was of far superior quality to some of the intown restaurants and well worth the taxi ride out. Some fresh and warm hand made scones as a wee freebie also a lovely touch. A very worth while place to visit if you are staying in St Andrews for a few days in a lovely quaint tavern.
Unreal
This is the second time I’ve visited in the last 6 weeks. I ordered the same thing again as it was so good and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. The pecan & seaweed encrusted salmon is unbelievable! Please never take it off the menu. The sides with it are perfect too. Every dish on the menu sounds so amazing!!! This is not your average pub grub. The Chef is special, please keep him forever!!!
Very welcoming and great atmosphere
Lovely location. Service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Food was brilliant, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Will definitely be back!
Great food at a small place
My brother, his two sons & I ate dinner at the Tavern after a day of golf. Mostly locals but they made us feel welcome. The menu favors sea food. Two of us had their ‘haddock & chips’ and it was very good. Would recommend this place as an alternative to eating in St Andrews
Fabulous
What a find. Great welcome from the moment I walked in. The owner, had great knowledge of his product and his enthusiasm for food and beverage simply shines through. Louise served in the restaurant with charm, finesse and friendliness. Anywhere that offers a huge garlic scone as an amuse bouche is off to a flier in my book. The starter of king scallops and black pudding served on a bed of pea jus was sublime and the fresh and light Albariño only enhanced the flavours messing with my senses. The melt in your mouth steak pie which followed, with hand cut chips and deliciously presented seasonal veg- forced the procurement of a beautiful fruit driven Rioja crianza. Heaven, and two bites into the starter I booked again for 2 days later. I could have had any one of the desserts but plumped (appropriate) for the meringue, strawberry ice cream and Chantilly and Graham sneaked me an off piste glass of Aus Chardonnay dessert wine. The cost of all of this was ludicrously fair given the incredible quality of ingredients and skill deployed in preparing and presenting to guests. I waddled home incredibly happy. Seriously, a very high benchmark has been set for all local hostelries. Thank you.
Lovely friendly atmosphere.
Didn't get there till late so called to book dinner. Before your meal you are served beautiful home made garlic scones. Bar staff and restaurant staff very friendly.
Outstanding & Quaint
So friendly and quaint and totally relaxing after a full day at the golf course. Totally worth the short drive from st Andrews and you wont regret it. Enjoyed some Friday nite music as well. Food was great and the view across the road is fantastic.
A lovely meal
The atmosphere is very friendly. Scallops were lovely, the black sausage was cooked to perfection. Fish pie was great just would like to have a little more of the delicious sauce. Salmon with pecan crust was. A little underdone but was fixed quickly by the kitchen. The portions were generous, I even left some! The mango sorbet and coffee affiliations were both well done to perfection.
A hidden gem!
Delicious food, delightful service & good value. This is a popular eatery though, so booking is essential.
Wonderful
This may be a pub but the food quality and tastiness is excellent. The service is good. Worth a visit and is good value for money

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
