Toki Underground Washington Reviews from The Last Year

Came here for dinner on a Friday evening! Very minimal seating available. We had a reservation for 4 and we were seated at the bar. It was nice that we could watch them making the ramen. The ramen was very good! I was not very hungry at dinner so I took a lot to go. It was delicious for leftovers! The flavors were great! Yum!

Went to Toki with a couple friends and it was so fun! Got the brussels to share and then I got the classic ramen and both were delicious! Didnt finish the ramen, and they boxed it up to nice and it was just as delicious the next day! Seating is limited and very crowded, but staff is great as navigating the space!
I love ramen and I think DC has a great ramen scene, thanks
I love ramen and I think DC has a great ramen scene, thanks in part to places like Toki Underground. We started with the pork belly steam buns, which were an excellent appetizer. You get to build four of your own buns, each stuffed with pork, kimchi, mustard, and delicately curled green onions. For mains, I got the red miso ramen, which was really tasty. The broth is thick and delicious, the noodles have just the right amount of chew, and the whole affair is topped with a gooey poached egg. I highly recommend this one. Of course, the Toki classic ramen is excellent too. And, if you're looking for something just a little different, the Taipei curry chicken ramen might scratch that itch for you. We were quite full by this point, but our server let us know that they were offering a special strawberry shortcake. Who was I to refuse? And the cake was well worth it. Lastly, I have to mention the decor, which is just fascinating. You'll have to go to experience it yourself!
Fantastic and attentive service! Called me back to confirm
Fantastic and attentive service! Called me back to confirm our seating when I stated my party was on the way. Restaurant was super cute with awesome decor. Food was amazing! I got the Toki Classic and was able to finish the whole bowl. Cocktails were great, just wish the Sapporo was in a bottle and not a can...

I got the Taipei Curry Chicken Ramen and it was really good and filling. I couldn't finish the bowl which I felt kind of sad about because it was delicious. The fried chicken has a bit of a kick on the back end which I appreciated. The broth was rich and savory. My partner got the Chicken Mazeman (Brothless) and enjoyed it immensely. We split an order of the battered Cauliflower Steam Bun (4pc), honestly, it was a lot. We probably could have done with the 2 pc, but we weren't sure. The buns were great and the cauliflower was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed the pickled veggies!

A small restaurant actually located high above ground and accessed by taking stairs, Toki Underground did not disappoint with their food! My friend and I had a reservation and took advantage of a $25 off $75 deal, so we ordered quite a few items--yuzu lemonade ($5), chilled tofu ($7), vegan dumplings ($8), red miso ramen ($18), spicy vegan mushroom shoyu ramen ($18), and shortcake for dessert ($8). The lemonade and tofu were nice and refreshing, and my friend practically inhaled the shortcake at the end. My mushroom ramen was on the saltier side and had beets and sour pickled vegetables which I personally thought clashed with the savory ramen broth. Otherwise the noodles were very good, and we left extremely full! Service was initially slow and it took awhile to get our waiter's attention to order, but the food arrived reasonably quickly and they checked in on us often.
Amazing service and food.
We tried an array of apps and each got a different entree. My favorites were the cloud shrimp and curry chicken ramen. Broth was so warm and comforting after a long walk around the city. Space is small so would be better as a date night spot then a family dinner. Our only complaint we had was the space of the bar and trying to converse was hard (we had 5 in our party) but a fault of ours not theirs for not checking first. With no reservation they were still able to seat us immediately which we greatly appreciated.

Love this spot!!! Took the family there and my youngest Son couldn't stop talking about the dumplings!!! We'll definitely be back!!!
Food was good and the service was phenomenal.
I do think the ramen could have had more flavor and different toppings , I've had ramen for half that price and they were better. Overall it was a good spot !
Best ramen ever had super recommended and the atmosphere
Best ramen ever had super recommended and the atmosphere inside the place is awesome even do it's a little small

Giving this a 5/5 because the chicken steam buns were incredibly good!! The other standout was the perfectly sweet and crunchy breading on the (very large) shrimp.

Their ramen selections have gotten smaller! The Tonkatsu ramen used to have a nice piece of pork but now it's just shredded pork. Why change it?
Everyone in our group had a mild stomach ache after.
The ramen came out tepid at best. The egg was barely cooked and still had runny whites. The pulled pork that they use is dry. In my opinion it was the worst ramen I've ever had. I definitely lost points with my friends for recommending the place. Also had the pork belly buns the meaty part of the pork belly was also very dry. Never again!

Loved the food at Toki! The Toki classic could have been more flavorful but the Taipei curry chicken ramen was tasty. Our bartender Chris made us a fantastic drink, a yuzu margarita. Would love to see it on the permanent menu!
Ramen was good.
Atmosphere is really cool but odd sitting. Service was very good and all were friendly !
18% mandatory gratuity + mediocre food + bad neighborhood
Do not go to Toki Underground. Bad neighborhood, mediocre food & 18% mandatory gratuity added. First, Toki Underground is located in a bad neighborhood. We were followed by a crazy man who kept yelling behind us as we were about to enter the restaurant. The food at Toki Underground is below average. The food is a 4 out of 10. The ramen is not authentic at all. The cooks spoke Spanish and not Japanese. The noodles are rubbery. The ramen broth of the Toki Class ramen lacks flavor, while the Kimchi Ramen broth is super salty. If you want good ramen try Ichiran (but I don't think Washington DC has Ichiran). Also, the hostess/waitress kept rushing us. She called us to see where we were at. Then she said we only have 1.5 hours to eat. When she gave our bill she said an automatic 18% gratuity was already added to the bill. This 18% was never mentioned when we made the reservation or on their website. This is illegal practice. The food, service and ambiance is below par. Toki Underground does not deserve a Michelin Gourmand designation.
Great hidden find!
The food and service were amazing. The flavors were great and it was a really unique blend of ingredients. The Toki Monster and crispy chicken thighs were awesome
Awesome experience
Excellent service, fabulous food and enjoyable atmosphere. The food was everything I expected from the reputation and more.
Could have been a contender!
These guys had great beer, great appetizers, and even great ramen flavor. But those were NOT ramen noodles! They were like yaki-soba noodles. So I don't know if they just ran out that night, so maybe cut them some slack? But they have to fix that.
Great spicy vegan ramen
We loved our dinner at Toki and had fun sitting at the bar... be sure to make a reservation as the place doesn't have a ton of seats. The spicy vegan ramen is great. Loved the broth and the spice level. I'd recommend getting extra tofu if you're looking for protein. My cocktail was great, and so was our prawn appetizer. He enjoyed his ramen with added pork belly.

The name of the reservation should be on the listing that was transferred to your account when you purchased the reservation.
