Simply outstanding!!!
Got there right at 5:30 scored a seat at the bar Eduardo was on duty he puts on quite the show making drinks and providing excellent customer service. Luis took my order and started off with outstanding bruschetta the tomatoes are so fresh and flavorful then comes the house made bread with the anchovy and garlic sauce pour lots of it on there. Then came the house made pasta with the meat sauce unbelievable. The wine by the glass selection is unparalleled. Unmatched anywhere that I travel!

Impeccable service, and our dinners were wonderful! I loved the traditional atmosphere and forgot to purchase a cookbook. A definite second visit when we are back in SLC.

This was the best Italian meal since being in Italy. The ravioli was to die for, the service was impeccable, the dessert was heavenly. This is a must of you are in salt lake city. Absolutely wonderful

This place is the real deal! From menu to service. Everything 6 Star! Giovanni was our Server again this year. He’s a Fan Favorite…… exceptional knowledge of the menu and its preparation. You have to have the pasta appetizer sampler to start. I had the pasta and seafood in a red sauce. “Full of Flavor”! My son ordered the rigatoni with the Chef’s bolognese twist per my sons request. “He ate it all”. Great wine selection. I wish they had a few more Bourbon Selections. However, they have High West which is a Park City Local Distillery and my favorite so I’m good. This place is hopping’! The girls at the hostess stand are very friendly and personal. The entire staff is professional. Make a reservation or good luck.

My wife and I chose Valter's for 25 Anniversary celeb. Food, amazing, atmosphere was garbage.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, great atmosphere…we picked the short straw on our server.
This is a great spot for Italian in SLC! Sooo much better than Veneto which we ate at a week or so ago. Loved the atmosphere. The food was delicious. We shared a Caesar which was prepared tableside…sort of. We had to encourage our server to be front and center rather than have me turn completely around. Really? The entrees were lasagna which may have been the best I ever had. It was a huge portion! My wife ordered a veal dish which was outstanding as well. We just could not get past the service. It was poor to terrible. Tony just didn’t want to engage at all. No dialogue happening here. My wife asked him three times to tell us the type of crab in the risotto. Other servers nearby were super engaging and made it fun. Jose in particular made us jealous we weren’t in his section. Pistachio gelato was good, not great. The small cup of chocolate was devine. No doubt 5 stars if the service was at least average. Corkage was $25. Would definitely go back again assuming we could request our server.

I should have believed the other underwhelmed reviews on this page. We flew to SLC for a special event so wanted a special dinner to highlight the event. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. My husband and I each had an appetizer, entree, and shared a one mixed fruit drink, with tipping and the $11 valet fee our bill came to $230 for not a lot of food. I would not have minded the price if the food had at least tasted slightly special and had any flavor at all. The texture of the salmon/mustard sauce entree was excellent but still not a lot of flavor, but my lemon caper chicken had absolutely no flavor; the tomato with my tomato/burrata appetizer was green and unripe, and the shrimp/sauce on watermelon part of the appetizer was just an odd combo. Will skip this restaurant on future visits.
Be the first to ReplyVery good but expected better based on reviews and it’s rating.
My meal was very good but expected to be better based on the rating/ranking and the reviews. The cocktails were a great added surprise.

Where to begin with this review. If you do not visit this restaurant at least once in your life you are doing yourself a disservice. From the moment you walk into this gem you are transported to Italy. The decor is beautiful and makes you feel right at home. Very classy with the white tablecloths/napkins, and waiters in black ties, but doesn't feel stuffy at all. The restaurant was packed, which told me we were about to embark on an amazing meal. Boy was I right. Our waiter was phenomenal. He steered us in the right direction throughout our entire meal. We decided to start with a glass of champagne while we looked over the menu. It felt like the right thing to do. While we perused the menu and sipped our champagne the bread basket came with a dipping sauce. When I say dipping sauce that is an understatement. I could put that on everything. It was divine. Not wanting to fill up on bread we only had one piece. We started with the Caesar salad. It was good, but when you put the garlic dipping sauce on it, it brought the salad to another level. When I have an Italian meal I like to start with soup or salad, then move to the pasta course, on to meat then if there is room café and dessert. The waiter must have read my mind. He recommended the pasta sampler plate. This delightful plate came with a sample of four different pastas - a butternut squash ravioli, spinach ricotta ravioli, gnocchi with wonderful marinara, and spaghetti carbonara like pasta. The raviolis were delicious, but the gnocchi were the most pillowey dumplings I have ever tasted. The carbonara like pasta was my favorite. When they serve the dish they present the pasta in the pan and then plate it table side on warm plates that melt the cheese they place on it before plating. All I can say is wow. Next came our main course. We decided on the short rib special and the veal with mushroom sauce. Again we could not get enough. Every bite was better than the first. It was so good!!! A lovely couple sat down next to us, which made it an even more enjoyable evening. I forgot to mention the red wine suggested by our waiter. I wanted something dry and full bodied from Italy. He suggested his favorite. It was absolutely perfect. It complimented the meal beautifully. At the end of the meal we asked him to bring the perfect dessert. He brought the limoncello sorbet drizzled with fresh honey. I have had limoncello sorbet, but never like this. The honey cut through the tartness like a dream. In all my dining experiences this was the most perfect meal I have ever had. My co-worker and I both said it was like an out of body experience. I am already planning my next trip to Valter's. If I had to choose my last meal on earth it would be any or all dishes from this amazing restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyVery good but also very overpriced!
The food was really very good but not really that much better than the Italian food I've had elsewhere. I would recommend this is you really want to treat someone special as they do have 5 start service. But just for a normal dinner nigh out not so much.
Be the first to ReplyA MUST Visit
My wife and I, accompanied by a friend, enjoyed dinner at Valter's and it was beyond our expectations. It is true Italian fare, pared with the old-school European-trained formality in all of its wait staff. I cannot even describe how authentic and delicious the food was - at all stages: from the bruschetta, to the bread's dipping sauce, to the Caesar's salad made tableside, to the pasta sampler, to the chicken marsala. It was by far our best meal after a week of skiing, and a great way to put the bow on the vacation. Be smart and make reservations. And show up hungry.

Excellent experience. The service was great. Our meal was fantastic. Overall felt it was well worth the expense.

We didn’t have reservations but were lucky to get seats at the bar. The food was delicious and the staff was wonderful. We would definitely go there again.
Be the first to Reply$50 corkage fee
Valters has always been one of our favorite restaurants to go to for special occasions. The service is good and the food is delicious but when we got the bill for our most recent meal there, the corkage fee was $50 and we were taken aback. The highest corkage we have ever paid in a utah restaurant is $25. I wish we would have been told what the corkage fee would be in advance. Had we known it was $50, we would definitely have selected a wine from the wine list. We were offered a cocktail menu but not a wine menu when we were seated. I think diners should be made aware of the extremely high corkage fee. Other than that, our dinner was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyWorth a trip to SLC
Just vacationed in park city with family and friends so we took the opportunity to dine again at Valters. We always do when we visit and it never disappoints. While we mourn the loss of Valter, his presence fills the room and his beloved staff ensures you enjoy a memorable evening!
Be the first to ReplyFood not good enough
As most of the reviews say, this is a very atmospheric spot. White table cloths, uniformed waiters etc. That aspect is good (although the industrial building feels a bit out of sync). The basic problem is that the food just doesn't live up to it. It's very average and actually quite bad in some cases. The marinara sauce tasted industrial (ditto the croutons on the Caesar salad). Although everything is served from a pan at your table, that must just be theatre. It doesn't taste freshly made. Nothing was memorable. In general, I found the food standards not great across SLC restaurants, and I don't think the kitchen here would survive in other cities. SLC's compensation is that prices are lower - but that's not the case here.
Be the first to ReplyA bit overwhelming
First off, I have extensive restaurant background and my review is based on my personal experience as a customer and a bit by my own professional experience. The restaurant itself has a nice upscale vibe and the staff seemed to be very professional. The host was straight forward and professional and seemed to consider our needs without us acknowledging such. The menu was extremely confusing and overwhelming. I understand traditional Italian as we have experience this in Italy with our friends. Food is big and many courses are the norm. The menu addressed this but it was very confusing and quite large which generally I have not found to be consistent with high end restaurants. I felt the biggest issue for us after our frustration with the menu, was our server. Let me say she hit all the requirements for proper serving but she did not listen to us, rather when we started to ask a question in regards to the menu, she talked over me and started a well rehearsed speel of how to precede. It was unhelpful as she talked quickly and was difficult to understand (I considered that she didn't speak or understand English well). At the end of her suggestions, we were as confused as we started and ended up ordering things she suggested (then I heard the waiter next to our table give the exact same speech). I ordered the salad sampler and the pasta sampler and my husband ordered the Lasagna. Again at this point we just wanted to order something and this is what she suggested. The Salad sampler consist of a small piece of watermelon with some small shrimp and sauce on top, a slice of cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto and caprese. The Caprese was excellent the other stuff ok. The pastas were all very rich and the Ravioli was good. Honestly the small amount I had wasn't amazing nor filling but that is because it was truly only a few courses of what should by what I believe traditionally should be many more. My husband didn't really like the Lasagna although I am sure it was very traditional. Again the biggest issue was communication. The service was not nessasarily bad it just wasn't personal. I had ask for a suggestion on wine based on what I ordered (I really didn't know what I was actually getting) and I thought she suggested a white. Also I did not receive my wine until after my food was served (which was odd) and when I did finally received it, it was red ;o), but it was good. Honestly I felt in the dark the whole meal. At the end we decided to decline dessert as the rich food didn't sit well with me but it was customary by the establishment to bring biscotti and Italian hot chocolate at the end. I tasted but didn't finish either but they were both excellent. In conclusion, the Caprese, bread, biscotti and Hot chocolate were terrific. Service was ok but lack communication and any personal touch...by the book high end service but too robotic. Ambiance was good and I felt the "family touch" of the staff. I feel if the menu was more user friendly and the server listened rather than go through the motions, our experience would have been much better. We probably will not return but that doesn't mean it isn't worth while, it just isn't what we seek in a restaurant experience.

The food, service and vibe are all excellent. I went with my dad and ordered the Caesar salad for two. I love a good authentic caesar and this did not disappoint. They first brought out a gratuitous bruschetta that was so fresh - in January! Then the soft bread with an amazing dipping sauce of puréed capers, garlic, olive oil, etc. I had the veal in a truffle fondue sauce which was rich but so good. It came with baby potatoes and green beans. Dad had the rigatoni - soul food for Italians. Our neighboring table had the salad sampler, pasta sampler, and avocado salad. Generous portions, perfect combined flavors and excellent service from greeting to end. We sat next to the bar and watched Lee the bartender work her magic (and her tail off) with her bubbly personality and disposition. Value and experience worth the price. it! Long live Valter.
Be the first to ReplyAs good as any place I’ve been outside of Italy.
Everything about this restaurant is awesome. The salad sampler was perfect for two couples to split. The pasta sampler was also a perfect thing to split. The gnocchi here are truly pillows of perfection! The Fruti de Mare entree was splendid. Service is spot on. Awesome place for a special Italian dinner!

I was taken there for my Birthday & what a Meal It Was!! The Service was excellent! The server was attentive & cared about us .The Specials were explained to us, as was choices on the menu. We were brought slices of bread with diced tomatoes complementary to start. We ordered Melanzane Al Forno as an appetizer (eggplant with mozzarella & tomato sauce)--the Best Ever!!! I had the Pizza Carne as a main dish & it was Fabulous. We shared dessert in a Martini glass, which was Incredible!! Also, complementary we were served a small cup of melted coco mixed with a little milk & an almond biscotti. It was a Celebratory, unforgeteable meal!!!

Be the first to Reply40th Anniversary dinner
We went all out and had a lovely dinner at this fabulous place. Luigi, our server, took such good care of us as he carefully served up the plates at the table. Finny, one of the hosts, was able to order a beautiful bouquet for our table when the florist cancelled. Everything was delicious! We started with an antipasto of melon, prosciutto, and a fig. Then a pasta sampler, which had a variety of lovely sauces and pastas and then two entrees, (we should have shared one, we were so full by then) the special halibut and the chicken piccata. We topped off the dinner with the gelato, honey and sea salt dessert. We also had a bottle of wine. Very expensive for all, but it was a special occasion so we didn’t mind. If we went again, we would order the caesar salad for two, split an entree and skip dessert because they bring every guest a lovely tiny cup of delicious warm chocolate and biscotti. We enjoyed the experience.
Be the first to Reply"Favorite Restaurant" is still as good
This was our favorite restaurant when we lived in SLC. Returned after over 5 years for our anniversary dinner, and it was still AMAZING. The menu is incredible and very difficult to decide from as there are SO many delicious choices. Everything is very rich and tasty...from the appetizers, to the main dishes to dessert...and the biscotti that comes with a Demitasse of chocolate...YUM. WE've tried many things on the menu...all great. My husband had the Halibut special and I chose the Salmon in mustard sauce...Oh my... He also had an heirloom tomato, artichoke, burrata appetizer that was to die for. And the bread...oh the bread!!! No idea what they do differently, but it is the absolute best bread you've ever had. Service is top[ notch...ask for Eduardo...although we've never had bad service :)

Beautiful meal. Atmosphere is nice. It the food is knockout good. Very heavy. My boyfriend and I made the mistake of each ordering an appetizer because we showed up super hungry but we ended up being too full to fully enjoy the rest of our meal! The food is just delicious. Very fresh tasting. Our server was wonderful and offered great, definitive suggestions when I was struggling to make a decision. Overall an awesome experience.
Be the first to ReplyThank you JEM and CLAUDIA.. Great food. Amazing service
OMF. It was such a wonderful experience. It was recommended by a friend and it is the top Italian restaurant.. if you can ask for Mr. JEM and Ms. CLAUDIA. We had Jem as our server and everything he suggested was topnotch. Every appetizers and entrée was delicious. Claudia was so attentive if and when we needed anything. We never had to ask for anything. The entire staff throughout had such a synchronize service and presentation. The food was plated in front of us with a great explanation. Food was delicious and the menu is very creative. The most soft bread was served with blended Garlic Caper Olive oil. Yummm. Oh and do do do ask for the GELATO. You would want that.. I saw almost every table order one. JEM made the best presentation when serving us the Gelato. I had the best experience. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Jem and thank you Claudia
