If you're from the US, let me explain VQ Aldgate in two
If you're from the US, let me explain VQ Aldgate in two words: Fancy Denny's. While this place is 24 hours, the only time you should be eating here is after 2am. Come for the people-watching, stay for the food. I was so excited to check this place out that I actually had a light dinner on purpose so I could get late-night eats without the guilt. We ordered the avocado toast, BLT, and fried halloumi - odd choices at 3am, I know, but it was great at the time. The avocado toast was a win for sure - the bread texture was *chef's kiss* and the seasoning was great. The BLT was solid, though the bread wasn't toasted enough. The fried halloumi came out much different than expected - more like fried mozzarella sticks, which makes sense in hindsight, but pan-fried halloumi is a better option, IMO.The odd thing though - we had to pay a cover to get in. At that point, I didn't really care but unless this is a common practice for late night London joints that I don't know about, it was a bit weird.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely horrible and I don't even know where to start.
We stayed at the Dorsett City London and everything started well at check-in but turned for the worst while trying to order room service.I call room service using the "room service" pre dial button from the hotel room phone (see attached photo). The line was either busy or no one answered, so I had to keep trying for over ten minutes. A male finally answers and seems agitated-- he explains that there is no room service but he will transfer me to the restaurant. A female restaurant worker answers and says I would need to come down and order/wait for food. This was extremely odd because this hotel is allegedly a "four star restaurant." I have never been to any other hotel, let alone a four star hotel, that did not have room service, especially since I found out about "room service" from the hotel information on the TV (see photo attached).Anyway, I go downstairs and place an order from the menu that is on the "Dorsett City London" website (see attached photo). The lady looks at me funny and says they don't have any of that food. A male then approaches and says the menu we were using was from another hotel. Thinking I made a mistake, I double check and it WAS from the same hotel/restaurant we were at. We end up ordering from the restaurant menu (higher pricing than online menu)-- steak sandwich, burger, dirty fries, and two milk shakes. The food was ready in five minutes as we were told it would be. The food was mediocre at best-- steak sandwich was over cooked and contained very little meat, burger ok but soggy, fries were old hard fries that were just loaded with toppings, and one shake was just liquid chocolate and definitely not a milkshake at all (the other was very watered down but had some ice cream in it). For what you pay at this restaurant, just go to a fast food place down the street-- it'll probably have better service and food. I don't know a single restaurant that can have a steak sandwich/burger/fries ready in five minutes, which means VQ must have their food precooked and quickly put together. This was not four star quality at all.I end up calling down to the restaurant because the liquid shake was undrinkable. I let the male worker know the issue and he calls me a liar, and that he finds it very hard to believe. He tells me that I could not get a refund for the shake and have to come back down and get another shake. At this point I'm very upset at being called a liar over the phone and return downstairs just to show them the purely liquid drink that they called a "shake." I was over this entire experience and just left the shake without getting a new one, or a refund. For background-- I work in the customer service industry and have attended the Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center Course for private businesses. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT ANY CUSTOMER. It's not right at any McDonald's let alone a "four star" hotel. You don't offer services on your hotel monitor/phone/advertisement that don't exist, serve horrible food, call your customer a liar when he informs you about it, and then let said customer leave this upset. It's honestly a joke in the customer service industry. I will never come back to this hotel/restaurant, and I'm not surprised when I see it has so many 1-star reviews for lack of service. Very disappointed and in shock. I would give zero stars if I could.
Be the first to ReplyBest quality breakfast in town.
My husband and I stayed at the Dorsett City Hotel which is connected to the restaurant. Even though we had searched out some other places, we kept coming back here every morning. The service is so friendly and the food tastes so delicious with tons of options to choose from. It's also 24hr which is a huge plus!Thank you to the staff for making our first stay in London enjoyable and memorable.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good it's not amazing but the atmosphere is.
It's hard to find a place in London that's open late, luckily this place is open 24/7. In the later hours you need an ID to enter so may not be best for those with children at that time but is worth a try if you're in the area. The breakfast is very good.

We stayed at Dorsett hotel and decided to go hear after being out and everything closing early. The drinks, appetizer, and service were so good we decided to go back for breakfast the next day. Breakfast was amazing and quick. We couldn't help ourselves as we were starving we had dinner another night and it was also good. Oh and did I mention it is 24hrs open!!
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is attached to the Dorset City London Hotel.
I've stayed at the hotel twice and have had a few meals here. I love the 24/7 concept. It's convenient if you're staying at the hotel or even if you're looking for some food after a night out. Prices go up slightly if you order after 11pm though. I've had quite a few items on their menu and everything has been really delicious. Some of the items I've had are the avocado toast, chicken dumplings, spinach omelette, and mushroom soup. The biggest problem here is the service. The staff is actually very sweet and fun, but everything is soooo slow. I've been there when the restaurant is super empty and also when it's been packed. Service is always slow. Most of the time it feels like my waiter/ess forgot about me - then they just happen to walk by and remember to take my order/check in/bring me a check. This spot is really convenient because of the hours and location, but this isn't the right place for you if you're in a hurry.

Now a 24 hour joint a stone's throw from me is always gonna get a bit of a pass from me!The Aperol Spritzs' were better than the ones in Jin Bo Law upstairs and came relatively quickly. The appetiser food however...was another story. We came here for a few nibbles post the rooftop upstairs. We ordered:+potato chips with blue cheese dip+hash browns+chicken gyozaAfter about 35 minutes of waiting we asked about our food and the waiter said he thought the kitchen may be closed. However, they kept bringing out Deliveroo repeatedly! We waited another 20 minutes to actually get our...erm...very complex order. We ended up with 4 small gyoza, and 6 tiny hashbrowns plus some crisps out of a packet. And they still tried to lump us with the discretionary charge! The club sandwiches looked amaze though so will give it another go next time I'm tipsy hungry!

By far the worst meal and service I've had in London, and not even close.... even the service was horrendous. The "fresh squeezed" orange juice was barely passable as orange juice, and so watered down. It was for sure from concentrate, not even a good one.The eggs Benedict was terrible, the hollandaise sauce tasted metallic. They never brought my sides but after waiting 15 minutes for the check I didn't even argue to have it taken off the bill as I just wanted to leave. This place shouldn't be open.

The food was okay, but the manager is so terrible at his job. We were given a menu at around 10:50 and made our order a few minutes later, then when the bill came all of the items were differently priced. We were being charged an extra 15£. I asked the manager and he said our order was different. He insisted that we were lying about what we had ordered and that the bill is correct. After speaking to the waiter he realized that he was totally incorrect and then he applied a 20% off the original bill (which is shown in the picture included) to make up for the overcharge. I did the math and the bill was still charging us 3£ extra. I brought that to his attention and then he replied "So you come in here and you're going to tell me how much you want to pay?" He then brought the bill back completely corrected with the prices on the menu and then we paid. I added pictures of the menu and the first 'discounted' and second bill. You can clearly see that everything was overcharged from the first bill since the prices on the side are different then those on the menu. For example an order of wings which contained 5 wings was 4.95£ on the menu, but we were charged 7.50£. The first hamburger was being overcharged by 2£ and the second hamburger was overcharged by 6£. The two orders of wings were overcharges 5£ and the service fee was 2£ more than it should have been. That makes a total of 15£ extra that I didn't owe. I honestly would of just brushed this off as an honest mistake from the manager if he hadn't been so rude about the whole thing. This was sadly the last restaurant we visited in London and it really left a sour taste in our mouths.
