New York's Best Restaurants that are most frequently booked by customers of Wallsé New York
🤢 2/5 - We'd been meaning to go here for years and unfortunately

We'd been meaning to go here for years and unfortunately were pretty disappointed by the experience overall - we definitely won't go back and felt strongly enough that we were driven to write a review when it's not our norm.First and foremost, we were let down by the food. Even the best things we had (the Schnitzel and the quark Spaetzle) were just OK, which isn't excusable at this restaurant's price point. We were particularly bummed by the lobster soup, which had barely any lobster flavor. We sent it back to the kitchen, something we've done maybe twice in our lives.A few other things contributed to our negative impression. The service was warm and friendly at first, but became markedly slower and colder after we let the server know about our disappointment with the soup. I got some hot water with a slice of lemon after the meal, and they added it to the bill ($4) which was shockingly penny-pinching of them. I've ordered hot water with lemon at hundreds of restaurants, from diners to Michelin starred fine dining, and can't think of the last time I was charged for it.To top it off, the check came with a surprise $5 credit card surcharge, even though we hadn't even told them how we were paying. This is not only extremely customer unfriendly (it's not disclosed anywhere and I bet 99% of people just miss it), but also *illegal*. In New York, by law, you can offer a cash discount, but not charge a surcharge for paying with card. They were happy to remove it when I asked, but that's on every single check they're handing out and it's not OK to pull that kinda stunt. I highly suggest that management cease this practice before they end up in hot water with the law.One last thing caught our attention on our way out. As my wife and I were discussing our disappointment toward the end of the meal, we overheard two other patrons who had made an 8:15 reservation. It was 9pm and they still hadn't been seated - we clearly weren't the only ones that night with issues.Overall, would have been a 3-star, but the extra problems knocked it down further. Hopefully they do better moving forward.
