We were visiting from out of town with our in town friends, and decided to meet at Wally's for drinks before dinner. We were having Italian later that evening so we thought, why not go to a wine bar beforehand? Upon entering, the unfriendly hostess asked us if we were eating dinner. When we said no - we were just having wine, she told us that tables were reserved for dinner guests only but that we could sit anywhere in the bar area. We sat in (what we thought to be) the back of the bar, because there were no guests in that area, and there were multiple available seats and tables. After sitting there for a few minutes, a waitress came over and apologetically asked us to move to the front of the bar area because THAT was where we were allowed to sit if we were only have drinks. Confused but understanding, we moved to the front area and sat down at a table next to the bar. There was another couple siting adjacent to us who were only having drinks. As soon as we sat down, another person, this time a male waiter, came over and told us that we again were in the wrong area - and that the only acceptable area for us to sit in was at the actual bar itself! He told us we would be expected to move from those seats as soon as the unfriendly hostess needed to seat dinner guests there. He did not mention this to the other couple at the table. Two minutes later, the unfriendly hostess decided to seat a party where we were sitting, even though there were multiple available seats and tables throughout the restaurant. We got up, and we're unable to order drinks since the bar was full. At this point, our friends had gotten there and tried to get us table but the unfriendly hostess would not budge on the "tables are for dinner guests only." We left and went to Porta Via across the street and were able to sit outside and just order wine. It's astounding to me that Wally's, a wine bar, has such a strict policy to only seat guests who want to dine in for food. I didn't appreciate the unfriendly hostess up front, and being asked to move twice by 2 other employees. If you are ONLY allowing guests to order drinks at the actual bar - SAY THAT. Telling folks they can sit "anywhere in the bar area" is subjective and unclear. We will not be going back here after being treated with such a snooty attitude.
