Pleasant brunch
Beautiful location with pretty good food, the food was not quite as good as we had hoped, but all in all it was a great experience.

I'll start out by saying that I love the ambiance at this place, it's really nice! Now on to the not so nice things. The service was slow at the end, had to wait forever to pay. And the food was ok for the most part, one dish was over salted, but our steak poivre was on point and really tasty. Also, parking could be a bit tricky to find, so keep that in mind.

So great to be back and check out the reconfigured space at Woodberry. They now have an events space (Gatherings by WL) and a tavern restaurant. Same great food and drinks and great service. We started with the oysters which were plump and fresh, and had a nice touch of chili oil which we loved. We also got to try their charcuterie board which was a nice mix. For our mains we had the rainbow trout that was fresh and dressed with nuts. The pie I had was also tasty but I did think it makes for a great lunch instead of dinner...this is more of a personal preference tho. The service was very attentive from our server to the host which refilled our waters a few times. Overall, still one of the best places to dine in Baltimore. Glad I came back for a visit!
Easter Brunch
Much smaller than original restaurant. Now the Tavern and small area with bar inside and outdoor patio. Made reservations and was not told we had to sit outside. Brunch was good and service great as usual. Just would have liked to know that inside seating was not available when I booked for Easter brunch. Very disappointed.

The renovated version of this restaurant is spectacular, but the space reserved for general dining is actually quite small, while there is an event space nearby. The food was as good as promised. Service was not, and after being seated it was a struggle to figure out who might be willing to take an order and we spent ten or fifteen minutes casually talking and trying to flag someone down, listening to other tables get a warm introduction in the meantime, before someone got to us. This is one of the places that adds a service charge and makes tipping optional, and I was not so inclined. Notably, getting a brunch reservation was easier than getting a dinner reservation, which surprised me because it's a great brunch. The Carolina rice and beans dish they offered was resplendent, with fragrant rice, fresh vegetables, and a strong chili crisp complementing the robustly flavored beans. I've spent a fair amount of time in the Lowcountry but I've never had the distinctive rice varieties from that region prepared so well, including my own efforts. The salad waited until the beans were gone, but it was a fantastic set of greens with shoots and flowers and a delightful buttermilk dressing. Our search for something sweet yielded a board of pastries which provided delicious variety. The place has a variety of items that I wouldn't eat, but as a vegetarian I didn't struggle for choice. Returning for dinner would be a welcome event, but I could reasonably expect more attentive service if I did.
This is a great place to go and celebrate special moments.
Ambience and food is wonderful.

Woodberry brunch it back!!! Seems like right now it's on sundays. This is my first time in their new space which is SO cute! It's very cozy and comfortable. Everyone was kind and hospitable. We were late to our reservation, but they kindly sat us! Got the pear waffles and Turkish eggs which were both so good! Loved having the sweet and savory options.

I've heard great things about Woodberry kitchen before they rebranded and condensed into Tavern. I was very excited to try their farm to table type menu. I made reservations a few weeks in advance and we could only make a reservation for Thursday because thats how fast the tables go. Walk-ins a bit risky here since the restaurant is very small, maybe 15-20 tables max. The service was really great. Starting off with the appetizers we got sweet potatoes and leek soup, oysters, and crispy sweet potato salad. The soup was quite literally the most flavorful dish and best soup ive ever had; there were so many textures and flavors that well went together. Oysters and salad were ok. The burger has a homemade sweet potato bun (they use alot of sweet potatoes here lol) and it takes away from the fluffiness youd normally expect. Steak was absolutely incredible on the other hand. Overall 8/10 experience, would likely come back with a new menu but the pricing is on the higher end.
The ambiance was very nice.
We went on a Wednesday, and they have local artists playing from 6-9, which was really fun. The service was also good. We ordered 3 things from the menu, 2 smaller plates and one larger plate. The 2 smaller plates were very good. The steak tartare was a bit finer ground than I'm used to, more akin to a hamburger grind. However, it was seasoned very nicely and went well with the Dijon mayonnaise they provided. The pork belly was also good, it was tender and the fat complemented the meat nicely. However, the beans seemed slightly undercooked. While I did like the 2 smaller plates, I found the fish underwhelming. It was cooked perfectly, but I found it unevenly seasoned, with some bites having very little flavor. Also, the fingerling potatoes seemed to lack any seasoning. Overall, I was very happy with the other 2 plates besides the fish.

I just had a date night at Woodberry tavern and what an experience! I had not been to Woodberry Kitchen in years since they scaled down the restaurant. From the moment we arrived we were being waited on. Isn't that what going out to dinner is supposed to be? Hot mulled wine was a special and we each got a glass. It was delicious and set the tone for the rest of the night. It was snowing outside and we had a great table by these beautiful big windows. We choose the raw oysters as a starter and they were the cleanest oysters I have had in a long time. They had an Asian finish sauce and it really was clean and simple but highlighted the freshness of the oyster. They offered oysters three ways. I want to go back to try them all! The next course we shared was the white sweet potato soup with mushrooms. The flavor was deep and rich but at the same time a light soup that was a great second course and especially since it was snowing outside. For dinner my husband got the tavern burger and said it was juicy. He had to take half home it was so big. I got the rainbow trout and it was the best cooked fish I have had in Baltimore. It was encrusted with herbs and pecans. It's the next day I'm writing this and I can still taste it! Just perfect dish. We both said not one dish could we had could we have gotten anywhere else. That's a date night! Signature cocktails. Signatures dishes. Best date night spot! The scaled down dining room is doing well as they focus on the food and service. The tavern had every table full and not once did I look for a server. It was as if we had our own waiter. And not in a way that was invasive. The quality of service was top notch. I really want to highlight this fact. Well done Woodberry I can't wait to go back.

We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday with a quiet dinner. I made reservations well in advance! Parking is a little tricky. It didn't help it was raining and dark already. It was a little hard to find the entrance of the place, too. Once we got in, it was very cozy and well decorated for Christmas. We were seated right away. The hostess was super nice and quick to bring us water. Our waitress was fine. We ordered drinks (I got the winter swizzle, and my husband got the old fashion). We ordered the fried cornmeal oysters and the scrapple musubi for an appetizer. Then the mushroom pie, the maryland style fried chicken with gravy and the pork & beans for entrees. The drinks did take a while to get. They showed up a little after our appetizers. I wouldn't get the scrapple musubi again. I think I'd much prefer rice than the room temp. grits in a musubi - but that might just be a preference thing. The oysters were fantastic. It was our favorite bite of the night. It came out super hot and fresh. Well seasoned. We wish we had more. The mushroom pie came out pipping hot. Loved the crust. The filling itself lacked flavor. It was just salt. Like another reviewer said, the Oyster pie is probably the way to go. The fried chicken was good, gravy was super salty. I liked the amount of gravy it came with, enough to smother the waffles and dip bites in it as we went along. The pork and beans was okay. The porkbelly was very very hard to cut into. Which we've rarely seen with a pork belly cut. The dish was on the verge of being too sweet. We had also added on a side of fries and that was the best part of the main courses. They're thick cut fries and they come out freshly fried. Wow were they good. I was hesitant on getting dessert because it took so long to get the dessert menu/to have the waitress come back to take our dessert order - but I really wanted to try the baked Alaska. It came out much quicker then anticipated. I love the show they put on with the tableside candle. The food runner was great! He also came with a birthday dessert for my husband, which was super sweet of them. The baked Alaska was delicious - I almost wish we had gotten more desserts! I think I expected to be more wowed by the food after hearing such good things about Woodberry. Service got extremely slow at the end. It took forever to get our check and pay.
Same great food, same great service just a bit of a downgrade on the overall experience.
It is now the Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen (or something like that) with service in the small room before you go in the main space. That main space is now a catering/event space - a wedding reception was going on as we ate at 6pm on a Saturday. That commotion (and sharing the bathrooms with very large groups) was a minus for me, as was not getting to eat in that big room. Made parking trickier, too - there did not seem to be any valet parking. The food was top to bottom great: fried oysters for my wife, a crab cake and salad for me and we split a crab dip/crab pot which was very good. We also had the CMP for dessert which is basically a fancy (and very tasty) hot fudge sundae. As usual, the service was great. We told them it was our anniversary and with dessert they gave us a cookie with "Happy Anniversary" on it. They add 23% as a service fee but also leave a line on the check for a "tip" that would go direct to the server in addition. Maybe I'll have to get used to that but that was the other negative. Same great food, same great service just a bit of a downgrade on the overall experience.
Chef Gjerde has done it once again
Woodberry is back! Chef Gjerde has created a new fresh space with food and service that is superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our oyster pie and pork schnitzel main dishes and the assorted appetizer sampler was great (scrapple? really? I asked and was assured it was - and it was terrific!). Emilia, our server, was efficient, courteous, helpful, and very nice to speak with. the assorted dishes on the Tavern menu guarantees that you have to go back to try it all. Congratulations to the Woodberry team!
Will have to come back for dinner.
We tried to get in for dinner, but couldn't get a reservation. We stopped for a drink after dinner at a nearby restaurant. The restaurant is very small, but has a great bar. Our bartender Steve was amazing. Good drinks and service.
An update from when we last dined here (pre-COVID).
Let me start by saying that I respect any restaurant that was able to survive the pandemic - it shows a commitment to their staff as well as their customers. But unfortunately, we weren't nearly as happy with Woodberry as what we remembered from years past (then rated as 4/5 stars). Food quality not at all proportionate to the price. Not the level of cuisine we remembered from when we ate there maybe 4-5 years ago. The two cocktails we started with were poorly made -imbalanced, and tasted almost devoid of alcohol. My "salad" was nothing more than a plate overflowing with greens, and the dressing was watery as well. The oyster service was decent, though not sure if it was worth $39. My $67 steak was nothing special and fatty even for a ribeye cut (though the reduction/sauce was excellent), and for that price I think they could have thrown in a side of fingerling potatoes, instead of my having to order them separately. My wife's fried chicken was again, nothing special, and at $47 should not have been over-cooked. Wines available by the glass were uninspiring - guess we should have ordered a bottle, though the majority of choices there ran to well over $2-300. On the plus side, service was excellent. It may sound like we were overly focused on the tab at the end of the evening -not so. It is the disconnect between the amount spent and what we received for it. If we had spent half as much, or enjoyed it three times more than we did, I would be writing a very different review. It appears Woodberry is now more of an event space that just happens to still have a small restaurant attached to it. We're not sorry we tried the place again (based on a glowing WaPo review), but we won't be back, either.
We reserved the "Gatherings by Woodberry Kitchen" on March
We reserved the "Gatherings by Woodberry Kitchen" on March 11, 2023 for a very special celebration to honor a friend and colleague who received a major award from a cancer foundation. our group would include 29 people. we worked with Jolanta who was incredibly helpful to organize the dinner menu, drinks and what space would be appropriate. On the day of the dinner, we worked with Maggie and her colleagues who were all also outstanding. they had set up a bar and the bartenders were great and efficient with drinks. the menu was outstanding (appetizers- mini toasts with mushroom duxelle, steamed rye buns with pork belly and fried chicken. dinner entrees included fish, braised short ribs, vegetable risotto. we had a guest who is a strict vegan. the kitchen made her a special vegetable risotto without cream. that level of detail was really incredible. desserts were so delicious (butter scotch pudding, ice cream, cheesecake, cookies. Thanks again to Jolanta and her colleagues and to the Gatherings by Woodberry Kitchen! hope to return!
Avoid this place at all costs.
The new owner could care less about serving you dinner. All they care about now are the wedding groups. Our waiter and Hostess reminded us about the wedding events several times. Once our bill came out they asked us to leave for another group while we still had drinks. The restaurant now has only 10 tables with no coffee bar. Their dessert menu is limited with no CMP which was a staple IMO. Very disappointed with our cocktails and dining experience overall. This is not the same Woodberry and we will not be returning. so sad

Spike can be up, and way up; or he can be down, sinking to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. We experienced the latter. Our dinner reservation was at 7:15. We did not get seated for at least 45 min, even with my elderly father with us. That was strike #1.Menu selections were not brought to the table for almost one hour. Strike #2.We ordered a porterhouse steak for two. It was too aggressively seasoned with salt. We barely ate it. My father's pork chop was dry. My sister's chicken was average. Strike #3. We were too tired and frustrated to return the dishes to the kitchen. The server brought the bill and did not even ask if we cared for after dinner coffee or tea or libations, much less dessert. Strike #4.On other occasions, Woodbury Kitchen was satisfactory. But we will NOT be returning again.
Great food.
Very expensive. Cool decor. Service was pretty good too! Probably won't go again for the price! I do believe it is a farm to table which I like.
The food was good, but very few options.
I totally understand that they have downsized quite a bit, but as someone who is gluten free, who used to love that this was one of the only restaurants that had gluten free options that weren't just salad or a slab of meat, I was really disappointed. The service was excellent. Our server was so sweet and have nothing but kind words for them. The feel of the restaurant was just as cozy as I remember.

We had purchased two tickets for roaring 1920s New Year's Eve party $140 plus tips. The party was scheduled from 9 PM to 1 AM and promised a buffet and unlimited drinks. Upon arrival at 10 PM we were met with a hot, absolutely tiny "event, space" and absurd drink lines that were wrapped around the building. Furthermore, hardly any food was out and there was only a few cocktail tables set up for 100+ people. The live entertainment was just terrible. Unless you're into listening to a cover band, that sounds like a dying cat. We spoke with the event manager, Lisa, who became argumentative when I expressed my disappointment. She told me I could email and possibly receive a gift card but that there were no refunds available. Fine. As we were leaving, we met several other dissatisfied couples that were leaving as well. On Monday we emailed asking for compensation and again we were met with a lengthy email from Lisa the event planner sitting at the food came out later (we showed up at 10 PM) and that a $100 gift card was the only "refund "they could give us. Overall this was so poorly planned. At best it was a decent eighth grade dance without any dancing. I would be hesitant to have any future events as the staff and Lisa do not care about customer satisfaction. 0/10, do not recommend.

Woodberry Kitchen has reopened post-COVID but things are a little different! Now, it's a small, intimate restaurant - Woodberry Kitchen Tavern - and an events space (they just held a NYE party). We visited the Tavern for dinner on Christmas Eve and had a great time. We shared: Green Salad (young lettuces, herbs, shoots, and buttermilk dressing); white sweet potato bisque (crab, Worcestershire, hickory nut, and sage); "In a Savory Pie" (oyster, leeks, fish pepper, potato, carrot, and cream); and pork schnitzel (lemon, savoy cabbage, KP sauce, golden beets); and a slice of Lady Baltimore cake! Overall, the food was really good. I appreciated that the menu has something for everyone (including a house-set tofu entrรฉe for vegetarians). There was enough on the small-ish menu that I wanted to try that I could go back this week and try all new dishes (rarebit, tartare, oyster service, ribeye au poivre)! The drinks menu was also great. My husband stuck with cocktails, and I had a glass of orange wine (they also have beers). The service was great (we sat at the bar and had such a great time chatting with the bartender working that night), and the restaurant is such a cool space - warm, cozy, intimate. It was a perfect spot for a winter dinner (well lit and cozy and warm). Since the tavern is pretty small, I definitely recommend you get a reservation (especially on a busy night). Overall, we had a really wonderful time, and I'd happily return soon.
terrible experience with event planning
We bought $140 per person tickets [ plus tips] for the New Year's Eve party, which was a splurge and I was excited because of the great gatsby 1923 theme. There were supposed to be era finger food and prohibition cocktails. We left after 5 minutes, there was no space to get comfortable, and there were no chairs or anything to sit or stand while waiting for the two lines for the cocktail bar, where overwhelmed bartenders were attending to a non-moving line. The music was a loud cover band, you could not understand a word you were saying and there was no way to get away from it because the space was so small, and additionally, they had lit a chimney fire [ to make the room extra hot???]. The party was supposed to go from 9-1am, and we arrived at 10pm, and there was no food. After inquiring, they said there was a second serving for the buffet coming, but there was no place to hang out and wait until then, and it was impossible to get a drink because the lines were never ending and not moving [ and did I mention it was hot ....] . Additionally, the cover band was not just blaring some modern tunes so you could not understand a word you were saying, but the singer was literally screeching, you just wanted to put as much distance between you and her as possible [which was impossible given the tightness of the space]. We were trying for 5 minutes to get ourselves situated in that chaos, or at least get some drinks. But there was no help from the hosts. Woodberry was busy running their regular tavern business in their other rooms. If that is supposed to be the new event-and-catering-Woodberry kitchen - well you lost me. This was an outrageous fail. Complete mismanagement and poor planning on how to accommodate people and make your guests comfortable and how to get food and drinks fast enough to that number of people. We cut our losses [the tickets were outrageously expensive for that type of understaffed and unplanned event ] and we went to bluebird where we encountered a cheery, spacious, and laid-back atmosphere with good music and a fast-forward service that we had come to expect for this evening.
