Cafe Polonez Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Noisy, and crowded with ho-hum food
Arrived about 7 p.m. on a Saturday night. Very, very noisy, and we got about the only table that hadn't been reserved. Service was reasonable, food also. But it was impossible to talk, and i wouldn't go again as the cuisine was not that much different from my home cooking and I like to eat something that I don't know how to cook. French fries were home made I think, which scores a point
Always so very Central European delicious
We dined on three bowls of zurek soup, roast duck, Polonez schnitzel, cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, Hungarian style pancakes stuffed with goulash and with a side of sour cream, and Zywiec beer. Everything was so very, very delicious. Excellent service.
Nice experience - the team obviously take great pride .
By far one of the busiest restaurants in the area . We had not booked , but were warmly greeted , and after a few seconds of deliberation were seated at a table amidst a bustling and happy bunch of diners . Our order was promptly taken , and drinks served - the draft wheat beer is delicious which one would expect from a country with a great beer producing pedigree. Our dinner of Pork Schnitzel , and a plattter of six Perogies were enough to feed four people ! All beautifully cooked , and well presented . Unfortunately we left Toronto on the morning of the annual Polish street Fair , but with such great food and hospitality on offer , we have made a note to visit again , and attend the street party next year .
Fantastic food that never disappoints!
I've been going to Cafe Polonez a few times a year for over 20 years and it has never disappointed. There's something for everyone - yes, even vegans and vegetarians and I've invited people of many cultural backgrounds with me and everyone has left happy each time. I usually go for dishes that are considered as traditional Polish fare (pierogies, borscht, cabbage rolls, etc.) but last night I had a fried fish fillet with mixed salads and again it was excellent. I learned last night that you can ask for half portions as well. The serving staff turn over frequently but they are usually pleasant. I am told that most of the kitchen staff have been there for years and that makes sense to me as they've been serving great food for so long.
Special occasion disappointment
I am Polish and I visited this restaurant with my long time friend to introduce her to our Polish cuisine and I treated her to lunch yesterday driving in from Oakville. I still remembered your fantastic food from a few years ago and I was looking forward to a treat. Unfortunately your restaurant's quality has changed a little from the high level it has previously . We ordered "polish kopytka with gravy". These potato noodles were simply too large. I understand that is easier to make them this way, but they looked terrible. I ordered also a small birthday cake called "szarlotka" with ice cream. Please do not call the funny creation; szarlotka if you don't know how to bake it. It had nothing to do with the Polish traditional cake and tasted horrible. I was a little disappointed.
