Carbonara at No 49 Chester Reviews from The Last Year
Authentic Roman !
We wanted to use this restaurant as we saw that not only was it Italian but Roman. And no cream in the carbonara! We had bruschetta and spaghetti carbonara with some Pino Grigio. Absolutely delicious food and a really lovely welcome from Sam the owner. Highly recommend.
Authentic
Came across this unique authentic Italian restaurant by chance on Sunday 14th April. Set Lunch menu was very reasonable. Food was super fresh and authentic. Starters calamari so fresh and tender, Bruschetta tasty. Recommend the carbonara vegetables done the Italian way explained by Sam and made by his beautiful daughter. Absolutely delicious! Salmon was super fresh too. The building is unique built with oak from the shipwrecks it was a dwelling for a clergyman if you get a chance to go upstairs worth a look! Definitely recommend this unassuming restaurant if you like authentic Italian cuisine.
George’s 21st
Amazing food and 1st class service. We could not fault anything the hosts are second to none, a brilliant evening we will be back. Will never go any other Italian in Chester! Thankyou Carbonara x
Best Italian food in Roman Chester
Never been here before but bee assured it’s the real deal italian run by an Italian and cheffed by 2 Italians and family waiters . So that outta the way this is how it should be Italians sticking to what they know best Italian Food and Drink. So was hungry, stepping inside the rows which probably is Roman somehow anyway your greeted to a authentic looking bistro restaurant, sit down the back and get offered a red wine and a glass of ice cold water which was nice , the red wine Italian naturally was superb actually ad I’m not a wine drinker but this was XAngie my mind. Get offered a try of a starter a bruschetta which was way better than my previous favourites at Pesto or Piccolinos which are good but No49’s was totally delicious. Asked about specials and the Risotto was mentioned and I love a risotto so chose that and 15 minutes later after another of the same wine the best looking risotto I’ve ever seen tasted ad wised I had more of it was that good. So if you like e love authentic food made by people who put passion into it try here. I visited on a Wednesday night and can imagine on a Friday or Saturday it gets super busy so take my advice the quieter evenings there was still half a venue full of people but I was not kept waiting. Would I go again yes for sure and I’d want to try the carbonara which I’ve heard is as good as the risotto next . Grazzi Ciao Sam and Salvatore !!!
Italian gem of Chester
A beautiful Italian restaurant in the heart of the city of Chester with an amazing menu. The staff are exceptional with a warm and pleasant approach.
Pre valentines meal
Visited this restaurant yesterday evening, we were shown our table by a young man who looked after our table for the evening and was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is fairly small and has a lovely ambience. Our food was very good indeed. Could not fault it. We would definitely go to this restaurant again when we next visit Chester
Exceptional
Sam and his authentic family ran Italian restaurant smashed it out the park again. Hospitality is incredible let alone the endless list of amazing food and wine. Family and friends have also been on recommendation and also believed the place to be faultless thanks for another great evening
Excellent authentic Roman regional cusine
Visited as a couple pre-New Year for Dinner. Small restaurant at 1st floor level on Bridge street inside the Chester city walls. Staff, including the owner were fantastic start to finish, attentive, but not overbearing and genuinely very friendly and welcoming. The menu offers many things to choose from all with a traditional Roman twist that makes them a little different for the better from most Italian restaurants. Everything we ate from start to finish tasted fantastic, with the owner taking time to explain the subtle differences between their Roman dishes and other italian cooking - for example thy don’t use parmesan, which just makes things like their pestos even more amazing to taste! Prices were also very reasonable! We thoroughly enjoyed eating here, will be back again and would highly recommend.
Faultless
Wow!! I am speechless!!! From hospitality, to wine, beer and fresh authentic Italian food especially for gluten free was faultless!! Seriously the best meal my husband and I have eaten which was great value for money. Awesome family ran restaurant with endless options than we will continue to come bavk to! Brilliant experience thank you
Gone a bit downhill
Me and my family have been to carbonara a few times now and the first couple of times were great but somehow the quality has started to lack and so have the portion sizes, especially the puddings. I had a tiramisu and my brother had a cheese board. The tiramisu was extremely extremely small, and my brothers cheese board only consisted of a cheddar cheese and some grapes which wasn’t the best. I hope this place gets up to its usual standards as we love to visit.
