Carne Mare Nashville Reviews from The Last Year
Horrrible Service - Lackluster Food
I went here for dinner, as I was staying in the W Hotel next door. I asked to be seated outside, as it was a pleasant evening. A young college aged female server took "care" of me. She was truly terrible, and I hope she leaves the industry and does something she'd actually be good at. Extremely long lapses in between drinks and apps and courses. The extra drink she talked me into never got delivered. I did get a case of food poisoning that night, although I'm sure this is rare. It may have been the raw oysters, although they didn't smell or taste bad. But, you never know. I can tell you that I had a very rough night after I got back to hotel. Other than my particular service being terrible, the prepared food is average, at best. I had the filet mignon, and while it was okay, it was certainly not Capital Grille or Ruth Chris flavored. A very plain piece of meat; quite possibly USDA Select rated. No trace of marbling. The accompanying broccoli rabe was well prepared. The lobster tail add on was tiny for $28, and undercooked quite a bit (maybe that was my culprit ??) The server never brough my 2nd drink nor asked me about dessert, so I can't comment on that. The restaurant knows that they will likely get a captive (to some degree) audience from the hotel, so in my opinion they tend to rest on whatever "laurels" they think they have. I would never eat here again, as there are far too many wonderful restaurants in the near vicinity, including a Del Frisco's a block away.
A new FAV
Visited twice in the past 2 weeks. Conveniently connected to W hotel in the gulch. Very warmly greeted by host staff. Assured us that if it became chilly or windy they would be happy to love us indoors. We sat inside on our 1st visit Decor was lovey and comfortable. Very energetic and bustling atmosphere. Started with Granita( shaved ice / grapefruit/ Prosecco-$16) tart and delicious. Appetizers we sampled were foie Gras cones- very good. Spicy crab cups( order of 3-$37)- not recommended… very minute amount of crab. Yellowfin tartare was the winner! Bread was outstanding- buttery and garlicky and hot. Wegini salad was fresh and delicious- pancetta vinaigrette was perfect. Sicilian Caesar was also good. Both Salads were plenty for 2. Pappardelle with lamb was divine. Very rich. Bavetta steak( flank steak) perfectly crusty and tender. Served with 2 fabulous sauces. Veal Chop Milanese was huge-good, but needed a sauce. Potatoes Rustica were soooooo good- lightly crispy and creamy inside. A smooth and reasonably priced red- Vietti($60) pair well with all. Beware that soft drinks are $5, and no refills… so 1 Diet Coke and 1 refillwas ridiculously priced at $10( we did inquire and were told each was poured from a can, but we never received the rest of each can!) Very tart and tangy Lemon Sorbetto was a perfect light ending to our meal. We had fabulous service from PENNY. Gave great suggestions and checked in every course to make sure we approved. She even went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything in our hotel room we needed- said she would be happy to send pillows , blankets, toiletries to our room. What a fantastic Bonvoy/ Marriott ambassador!!! All staff at Carne were so accommodating.
Still One Of Our Favorites
We had another wonderful meal. Derek was our server and wonderful as always. We shared a Caesar Salad with the best rolls. Hot out of the oven! Swordfish for my husband and pappardelle for me. Their food is high quality and perfectly prepared. Noise level is on par with most of our restaurants. I find it much quieter than Luogo across the street. Flambé spumoni is unique and delicious prepared tableside. Enough for 2 or 3 to share as it is about $25.00. We always say ice water when asked. Saying tap water also works. We have never had a problem with being brought pricy, bottled water like the last reviewer experienced. If you see someone bringing a labeled bottle of water, that’s an indication that there will be a charge. We think Carne Mare is one of our best! No water like the last reviewer experienced. I would tell her if you see someone bringing water, still or sparkling in a bottle that’s an indication there will be a charge.
Never again
We had reservations. We were finally seated after waiting a 1/2 hour. The acoustics are horrible in the place. I couldn't even hear the waitress. I went with my two college aged daughters and one of their friends. My youngest chose this place after going with her friend's family last semester. The waitress asked us if we wanted still or sparkling water. My kids, of course, ordered sparkling not realizing that sparkling water isn't free. I ordered still because I'm cheap - come to find out - still water isn't free either. The correct answer is TAP - just an FYI - that will save you $14 dollars before the dinner even begins. My kids are getting carried away with dining out lately. They got a lecture after this one. No more ordering sparkling water in restaurants. And no more choosing restaurants where the sides don't come with the meal especially when the entrees are already super expensive. I told the waitress after we were finished that I was ready for the check. She then asked about desserts and I said no thank you and that we had crumble cookies back at our VRBO. She continued to ask my daughter if she wanted to see the dessert menu anyway.
Extraordinary Dinner
We had such a great dinner experience at carne mare! The service, ambiance and food were on point. Chef Mau went above and beyond with the offerings and presentations. We highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks for the personalized service.
Poor service, mediocre food.
Went there for my anniversary. I wanted a special meal with my special person to mark the occasion. The high top we were seated at was unstable. The waiter said he would get it fixed. I finally went to. the hostess and asked for a matchbook to fix it. To her credit, she eliminated the issue. During the meal, one of the servers knocked my drink over covering me with alcohol. Literally soaked my sweater, the shirt underneath, and my pants. Basically spent the rest of the meal wet and cold. They apologized and replaced the spilled beer with another one and did comp the dessert. Our dinner order was incorrect, which led to a significant delay in dinner and the main courses did not come out together, The food was OK, certainly not worth the price, especially given the service. When the bill came, the "complimentary deserts" were on the bill as well as the main course we never ordered. This took 15 minutes to correct. Total bill was >$250 for crap service and just OK food. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
Delicious From Start to Finish
This is one of the best restaurants in Nashville. Derek is the best server. I have given him glowing praise before, but it so deserved. He's that good, professional and knowledgeable. We started with wonderful cocktails. Shrimp cocktail and oysters were delicious appetizers. Their bread is melt in your mouth delicious. We love their pasta and steak, but we tried the red snapper for two this time. What a great choice!! It is baked in a Dutch oven with marvelous seasons and served tableside. For dessert, I absolutely love the spumoni, which they flame tableside. We tried the 17 layer chocolate cake this time, which was out of this world. Carne Mare, in my opinion is far superior to another place nearby that is ranked the best. Compare for yourself I think you'll agree. We can't wait to return. Now I have the dilemma of choosing between the spumoni or chocolate cake. Not the worst problem to have.
One of our best meals!
Fantastic cocktails, food and service. One of our best meals in Nashville! We had a combination of steak, fish and delicious sides… Highly recommend ✨
Overall not the best
We made our reservation for 8:30 on OpenTable for an outside table. We waited 30 min to get seated inside. Staff was apologetic and kept us updated. Just started the night off on a bad foot. Service was a little slow at the table but very nice. Valet says they only validate for 3 hours so we were worried about that the whole time and come to find out, it's not an issue? Food was good but I have had better steaks in Nashville. The corn was amazing and the best part of dinner and the chocolate cake. We put birthday on the reservation when making but they still asked why we were there when we sat down, I'm not sure why open table has that option when most restaurants don't see it or read it. Lastly, it was very loud!! My friend had told me it was loud but I was like well I got a table outside so it'll be great! Then seated inside and incredibly loud.
