Cucina Caprese San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
The service was good-ish.
The waiter was nice, but the busboy was super creepy. We ordered pizza, which was good, but our crust was burned pretty badly. Yes it is a wood fired pizza but it was torched. The focaccia bread was loaded with Garlic and had a weird fishy taste. I missed the old restaurant but this place is ok.

We've been to a lot of restaurants in San Diego, however, the customer service here is the best we've had! The food was spectacular, we had a salad and a chicken and fish dish, all were amazing. The relaxed vibe and customer service made it an amazing experience and we can't wait to come back again.

What a gem! Between the warm welcome from Chef/Owner, to the delicious food, and kid friendly casual atmosphere, we felt like we were back in Italy. Such a lovely dinner, and we will definitely be back!

Visiting from bay area and happened to find this gem in last minute search for kid friendly dinner place. Located in little strip mall we were beyond delighted with this gem of a place. From the warm welcoming upon entering by who we soon learned was the owner, to the last bite of desserts of creme brulee and kids Gelato we had a fantastic dining experience. Kids devoured their pesto spaghetti and another with marinara, my wife enjoyed her chicken with capers. I may have had my best pizza since Italy. The dough is pillow soft and cooked to perfection. Our only regret is that this place isn't our neighborhood gem back home in NorCal.
Had a wonderful meal here.
Every dish was spectacular. The pastas were some of the best we ever had (really light gnocchi with a beautiful bolognese, the pasta special with cod, capers and olives was marvelous, the linguine with clams was devoured by our son). The owner and the wait staff were wonderful. The owner recommended a really good wine pairing and helped us decide between the desserts. We had the ricotta pistachio cake and the tiramisu - both beautiful, light and delicious. A really great experience.

This was one of the best meals we've had on any of our trips to San Diego. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. We had the burrata and prosciutto appetizer, a couple different pizzas, and pesto gnocchi. They were all amazing. The staff were extremely attentive and made the experience so great. We will definitely be back the next time we come visit and will be bringing friends!
We found Cucina Caprese after wanting to find a restaurant
We found Cucina Caprese after wanting to find a restaurant in San Diego that wasn't another Mexican food tourist trap. I am SO glad that we did. It is clear that the owner is intimately involved with the food that is served here. Ingredients are fresh, menu is easy to understand, and although there was not a kids specific menu, we were able to find some great options that both of our kids enjoyed. The Gnocchi al Pesto was probably the best gnocchi I've had in my entire life, and the prosciutto burrata was flavorful and absolutely delicious. We were able to walk right in and be seated immediately. Staff were all extremely friendly and attentive. Be prepared to wait a little bit for your food to arrive...I mention this not because it negatively impacted our experience, but because authentic, FRESH Italian food is made to order, takes time, and may not be expected by those of us used to an Americanized take on authentic Italian. I can't wait for another trip to San Diego so that I can come back. Don't hesitate...give this place a try!!
The food.
The flavor. The attention to detail. The wine list. Authentic. Another great experience at Cucina Caprese.

Visit Italy without leaving CA
Atmosphere: great. Staff: friendly, welcoming, fluent Italian speakers. Food: authentic and delicious. Checked all the boxes and then some!
Highly recommended!!!!
How nice to find an Italian restaurant after days and days of absurd food!! We ate well, also both the owner and Roberta were very nice, what can I say they made us feel good... the fettuccine with squid ink was a little pricey but in the end who cares.... and for one evening I didn't have heartburn ..hahahaha. And we want to talk about the Espresso in the cup... top! Hi Roberta..super!!!
Disappointing dinner in San Diego
We were disappointed! This restaurant poses as genuinely Italian, but at best it impresses as Mexitalian. Good were the hearty lentil soup, the Brasato con polenta was acceptable, the pastas ok (the fagottini at tartufo was so heavily creamy that is was difficult to discern any other taste than heavy cream), but the "special" halibut was dry and again swimming in sauce. The check was a bad surprise as the 20% gratuity had not been pre-announced on the menu (it was taken off after complaint). Don't know why it figures so highly in the Tripadvisor ranks.
You like Italian food? You will like this restaurant!
Food was delicious! My pasta was perfect. Great outside seating for people watching and the staff was attentive. I would go there again!
Almost, but not quite
Parking and seating wasn't bad for an early Saturday. Can of coke for $4 was a bit much. Lasagna was a good portion, although not to my taste, smelled good and lots of meat. Comp bread seemed store bought. Good service and great staff, but not worth another visit though.
Amazing homemade Italian cuisine
Such a delicious meal at this gem of a restaurant. Everything we had was so fresh, authentic and delicious. I loved my ravioli in pink sauce. Tiramisu was heavenly. My daughter said her Quattro formaggio gnocchi was a little too cheesy but dipped in my pink sauce and problem solved! Highly recommend!
Ultimate Italian
This was my second visit and both were 5 star experiences. I have had Italian from New York to Seattle and this s my very favorite. The food is prepared from scratch in their kitchen but it has a special ingredient not often found in restaurants. The food is made with love! The owner and servers are Italian and prepare each dish with love. They care for each other and for their customers. Everyone in our party had a different entree and each was divine. I had the Lasagne which was amazing . The appetizer of meatballs was tasty and had my daughter eating the sauce with a spoon. Finally, the desserts were so extraordinary. The Tiramisu is a contrast of flavors and textures that simply must be experienced. Do your palate a favor and try this culinary gem. You won’t be disappointed!
Good quality food mixed results
Came after reading the reviews. The ingredients are good quality but did not like the Tartufo dish. The white sauce was lacking it is appetiser portion. my husband liked the lasagna larger portion, meaty. The Tota Nonna lemon custard dessert was more almond flavoured. Would try something different next time.
