Depot Restaurant Torrance Reviews from The Last Year
Hosted a private birthday with 18 guests.
Venue, food and service were fantastic- very accommodating. The evening felt very special and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend- especially for a private party.
Had the best sea bass ever.
Served on kimchee fried rice. Outstanding. Wife had a lettuce wedge salad which has several unique ingredients. Wines, desert and cappuccinos likewise top quality. Candace is a gracious serverxas always. Chef Michael stopped to say hello.

Sometime around 1995 or 1996, a friend from Honda invited me to lunch at The Depot, back when Aoili was across the street. While the food didn't leave a lasting impression, the name always stuck with me. A few months later, I found myself working as a valet attendant for Par4 valet parking, serving both Aoili and The Depot. As an 18-year-old college student, the job provided some much-needed flexibility. Recently, I decided to check Yelp to see if The Depot and Aoli were still open, and only The Depot was. However, after browsing through numerous negative reviews, I noticed a recurring theme: the chef/owner's demeanor was consistently described as standoffish and rude. This instantly brought back memories of my time as a valet attendant. "Le Shaf," as he's known, frequently treated us disrespectfully, often expressing frustration, especially concerning parking near his car. Sadly, his behavior appears unchanged based on recent incidents. Although I only took so much abuse for about two months in the role, I kept in touch with some of the valet attendants. It wasn't uncommon for the chef/owner's outbursts to be directed at them and his own employees. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend patronizing this establishment. Despite his seemingly kind and apologetic online responses, his real-world behavior tells a different story. Proceed with caution; it appears to be his way or the highway.

Food is always good but prices seem to be a lot higher than the last time I was here. Service is great

My experience at this restaurant it was a delight from the start to finish. The Filet Mignon and the mashed potatoes were delicious so juicy and tender, I was blown away by the service I received from Candy, she goes above and beyondnd expectations great attitude and excellent customer service, and the charming ambiance made for a memorable experience.
I've been going to this restaurant periodically for special
I've been going to this restaurant periodically for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries and client meetings over the last two decades. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to say it, this may be the last time I'll be doing that. There is a general sense that service and the whole ambiance that existed is slowly becoming nonexistent. As an example, I ordered the steak that came with french fries, I expressed to the waiter that I would prefer to have veggies or another option but I was served french fries, no explanation, no care in at least apologizing for not even addressing why a change could not be made. In fact the waiter was totally ignorant to the request, I won't mention his name but didn't find him to be very busy to use his lack of care and attention to having too many tables. Had to use a butter knife to cut my steak if I didn't ask another employee to get me a steak knife. In fact this establishment use to be fully booked to capacity, no more than five or six tables were occupied. Also, the menu options have not changed much or at all over the last decade. That's my disappointing take on my very last visit to be!
I found this place on apple maps.
it was right next to the bowling alley i was going to. i was lured into going by the pictures listed on yelp. it looked like a fine dining spot and figured we should treat ourselves. Candice was our server, she provided exceptional hospitality and service. She made sure our drinks were never below half, answered all our questions including history of the establishment, and was very friendly! give her a raise !

This is a great place for a celebratory work lunch for perhaps a business lunch with vendors or customers. The food is savory and delicious, a little rich, and good variety on the menu, including a lot of fresh seafood options.
I had high hopes for this restaurant because of the reviews
I had high hopes for this restaurant because of the reviews but I was somewhat disappointed. Let me start by saying the service was awesome and the restaurant itself is very elegant. I appreciate that it's tucked away in old town Torrance making it very quiet and private as well. The food however was lacking. The ribeye was very very tough to cut and chew (ordered it medium). The flavor was also a bit bland. My plate was "wet" from all the juices from maybe the steak and potatoes which made the sides soggy. The potatoes were over boiled or so wet from whatever liquids were on the plate that most of them disintegrated, which was unfortunate because the flavor was tasty. The broccoli was pretty good though. I think the sides should have been on a separate dish. And the steak was just too wet. Friends had the potato crusted salmon and bow tie pasta which they liked - thank goodness. But another friend had the scallops with pasta and it was very salty. We all liked the banana bread but the rest of the bread offerings (crispy flat and rolls) were ok. The crime brûlée was good but the lemon one had too much whipped cream and sauce on the plate (making everything soggy again). The chocolate bailey coffee was delicious though. I would not recommend the Red Truck wine. Ask for the Oregon one if they have it. As the menu is limited I probably won't return as the meat which is what makes it or breaks it for me was not good. But if you like seafood, this may be a good spot for you. And many people seem to like this place so I would say give it a go and decide for yourself.
We had a party of twelve for lunch on a Wednesday at 11:30
We had a party of twelve for lunch on a Wednesday at 11:30 am mainly to ensure that the staff would not be overwhelmed by a large group. We were the only ones in the restaurant until around 12:30, when a small group arrived. We asked for separate checks and were told that the best they could do was to split the check into threes or fours. We were given our water and drinks right away, along with a nice bread basket. The food looked amazing when it came out, and my NY steak covered with fig jam and a Roquefort cheese crust was perfection. One lady sent her salad back as it was too "sour" and was given a second choice. The lady next to me suffered through her simple Caesar salad with grilled chicken, whispering to me that the chicken still had skin on it, and the whole plate was very salty. When the waiter arrived, I informed him that my friend did not enjoy her salad and told him why. He shrugged and walked away. When the bill came, nine ladies had cash and three had credit cards. Instead of putting all of those with credit cards on one check, we were presented with a bill for everyone. You can imagine how difficult it was to figure out how much we owed, especially since they had forgotten to include the drinks and the tip wasn't included either. After an hour of going back and forth with the bill, we paid it, only to be informed they had forgotten to include drinks. Everyone had to rush around finding five bucks to pay for their iced teas! My advice to this restaurant, who DOES typically serve very good food, is to listen to their guests. If we want separate bills, you have ample time to prepare them. You will also make much bigger tips in doing so as we are giving you tips individually. Second, if you are told a guest does not like her food and cannot eat it, offer her something else or comp it. I would rate our lunch a B+ and would definitely go again. If the management had ironed out these little problems, it would have been a spectacular event.
Everything was very good .
Nice service and good food and good conversations. I met new people and had a very good time . Thanks to Valerie !

My Boss (The Capitan!)brings the working crew here every year!! and I tell you it's the best place for us to come too as a group. Most of the crew got the Fig Jam and Gorgonzola crusted N.Y Steak hands down the best medium rare Steak I have tried. Delicious!!
The Depot is an old fashion looking steakhouse with booths
The Depot is an old fashion looking steakhouse with booths on the sides and tables in the middle. The personal touch is seen everywhere. You have to call and speak to a real person to make a reservation. The server was attentive and helpful. Chef/owner Michael Shafer personally came to our table and checked to make sure we were happy with our meals. After we sat down a large bread and cracker basket was placed in front of us. Such a treat. Most restaurants now charge for bread. We ordered a Caesar salad which was enormous and we had no problem sharing. My husband was not too hungry. He ordered the scallops appetizer which were served over mashed potatoes and crispy onions. Again generous portion. I had the vegetable entree which came with potato samosas and curried lentils. The entree was not gluten free but a gluten free substitute was available. My entree was large but unimpressive. It was oily and for my taste salty. I would definitely return and try something else because this restaurant is a keeper.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
