Fuego y Mar Miami Beach Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent Desserts, Tuna Poke, and Outside Dining
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton for 5 days and ate at Fuego y Mar for breakfast, lunch by the pool and dinner twice. For breakfast, the breakfast buffet features fluffy scrambled eggs, made to order modettes, bacon, sausage, assorted breads, fruit and berries, yogurts, juices. I enjoyed the Avocado Toast from the menu which was two slices of bread with a layer of roasted tomato tapenade, lots of avocado, and greens and pickled onions on top. It came with some crunch quinoa. For the pool lunch, the Chicken Sandwich and Tuna Poke on a rice cake (rice that was roasted and in a patty form) were our favorites, and the shrimp tacos were good. For dinner, my husband got the Red Snapper and I had the Shrimp with Orecchiette. It came with 5 nice size shrimp and plenty of orecchiette pasta. The Bits of Beet Salad was a lovely appetizer to share. Another dinner, we had the Bits of Beet salad, and Back to the Bone (tenderloin in beef marrow with potato puffs). It was different and unique but not something I would get a gain. We also ordered the Tuna Poke off the bar menu. I would say the desserts are a standout at Fuego Y Mar and worth just going to try the various desserts. I had the Chocolate Heaven which was like a chocolate panna cotta with various types of chocolate around it including a bon bon of chocolate ice cream covered in chocolate. My husband had the raspberry dessert which he did not want to share. Dinners including tip were around $180 with one drink per person.
Hell’s Kitchen on steroids
Our server was excellent and very accommodating. As examples: when the Ceasar salad arrived and I remarked how small it was, he brought me a tiny plate of extra leftover salad. When the tomahawk ribeye arrived with a tongue-curdling/paint-stripping citric acid/pineapple like seasoning , he took it back and comped the desert. When the bottle of red wine arrived ice cold, he left it there to warm up to the proper temperature. The busboy was shaking his head because I sent the ribeye back, which seemed pretty rude. My biggest concern, which I didn’t tell them about because I was trying not to be impossible, was that the $115 Wagyu strip steak was charbroiled/flame-grilled! It should be seared without flame because of the massive amount of fat in it. It had a very strong flavor of burnt fat. A Wagyu should never arrive tasting like the grease trappings from your local Burger King. I grill my prime steaks all of the time, but NEVER Wagyu. Also, even though I asked them to spice with only salt and pepper, they still couldn’t help but to pour some sort of a nasty sauce on top of the Wagyu! That poor piece of meat deserved better than a cook who doesn’t know anything about the food he’s preparing. If you come here, don’t have an appetite and certainly don’t order anything that you couldn’t get at a fast food restaurant. I would recommend the French fries, they weren’t ruined. The panna cotta was fantastic, probably prepared elsewhere.
WOW- The best culinary experience.
Amazing, everything we eat from the Sopas de Pasteles, to arroz con gandules, lecho asado y tembleque was delicious. Highly recommend this wonderful down to earth restaurant in Coral Way. Chef E. Jimenez will take you in culinary experience you will not regret.
Not very filling for the price.
Disappointed. Decided to "eat in" at the hotel our first night. No vegetarian options (other than salad), and was overpriced for what we received. Non-vegetarians may have a totally different experience.
