Himalayan Curry and Grill San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Good food and service.
I'm surprised it was empty for such a huge restaurant. It was very clean with nice decor and plenty of tables. We were the only people there during lunch aside from one other person. The $15 lunch special is great! You get to pick 2 entrees from a few different options and it comes with 2 pieces of butter naan, pickled vegetables, soup, and rice. It was my first time trying chicken curry and I wasn't a fan. But the chicken tikka masala was delicious with lots of flavor. The menu states that it comes with "homemade pickle" so I thought it was going to come with a pickle lol. But it was pickled veggies (carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, etc. I think) and it was very light and refreshing. Worth it to stop by here if you're in the area!
Big, welcoming space with attentive staff.
All the food is flavorful, comes out quickly and in plentiful portions. There's quite a lot of options on the menu, so something for all tastebuds.
Always a good spot for great, comforting food.
Delicios every time and great service.
Not sure why this place has 4.
5 stars? The food is not bad but not great, just OK. The portions are very small for the price. $3.50 for a 5oz Raita. Not very much cheese in the Saag Paneer. Disappointed.
This place is awesome! Fast and friendly service.
The decor is nice and well kept. The food is seriously the best Himalayan I have had since moving to San Diego 10 years ago! Bravo!
We had a few dishes here and they were really tasty.
The spices and flavor are great. Everyone was super friendly here. Very clean place and welcoming. We also had a complimentary lentil soup which was amazing. A lot of options for vegans and vegetarians.
I ordered Tiki Masala via Grub Hub so this does not equate
I ordered Tiki Masala via Grub Hub so this does not equate to the their restaurant location. I did request "mild" spice and it was mild to the point of bland. I usually equate "spice level" to heat...not overall flavor. It lacked any depth at all. It wasn't really buttery or tomato-y or curry-y. It wasn't terrible, just blah. The chicken was large, rather dense chunks- it didn't fall apart like I am used to. Which was a challenge because while I asked for utensils but I did not get them. I was in a hotel room and didn't exactly have a fork and knife laying around. The hotel wasn't super helpful probably because I didn't order from their room service or kitchen. The garlic naan had a lot of large, mostly raw chunks of garlic. I put garlic in almost everything I cook and it was too much for me. I will admit that maybe a spicier masala may have been better and perhaps the garlic naan is supposed to be that way? It may just be a matter of taste but I was craving this and was rather disappointed. Since I could not rate the service or restaurant I erred on a higher star.
Great flavors and good portions.
Been here quite a few times. I came for a lunch break and the food was so filling and delicious. The place is quiet and clean, lots of space, so it's a nice place to have a laid back meal. The service is quick enough for a lunch break. The staff is always super nice. My go to is the butter chicken and garlic naan. Sooooo yummy! The family were all very happy with the shrimp curry, chicken curry, and chicken momo. My kids can be somewhat hesitant to try new things, but they loved the food here.
The lentil soup was good very hot, so I had to cool it down
The lentil soup was good very hot, so I had to cool it down but delicious. The service is very slow. The food preparation is very slow just a very slow place but the food is good. Service is horrible no personality whatsoever. If you drink your water, you better be a camel because he won't refill it. Also, when you finish your soup, your dishes stay there so you to reuse. No real service whatever you have a serve you on prison trays like you're in a cell block D but the food is excellent. chicken was a little bit dry nothing was spicy at all which I like but the food was good really good. Every single dish was left there for the entire meal. It was crazy we left and all the dishes from the appetizer to the entrée to the dessert were on the table empty it looked like a cafeteria and shit it was unreal but I'll be back the food good maybe I'll take it to go I showed him my check in on Yelp for 50% off dessert. I got the rice pudding it wasn't worth it took a few spoonfuls that's about it lax flavor. I think they use the basmati rice which doesn't really do well with that dessert. Don't waste your $2.50 on dessert at least on that next time I want to put the creamy milk balls in my mouth.
Really pricey and lacking in substance for vegetarian.
The mushroom masala is essentially the same price as the chicken tikka masala; and no exaggeration - I think there were 3 mushrooms (cut up into small pieces) in the whole thing. It was a masala soup rather than a dish, for $18. The saag paneer had maybe a quarter of a block of paneer in the whole thing (8 pieces?), again- for $18. For the price, they are cutting way back on the substance of their veggie dishes. We won't be back.
