I tempered my expectations based on reviews and so was not disappointed by my stay. We had a great, relaxing weekend and I imagine it would be even better in warm weather since there are abundant spaces and seating for outdoor lounging. However we did take part in winter activities as snow tubing and ice skating, both very fun. And they had all the proper gear so we could still hike. I think the biggest mental disconnect is you’re paying for a 5+ star experience while the hotel is solidly 3 stars. I’m hoping they really do take care and compensate their staff well. The food was as expected, decent buffets and ok dinners. The biggest and not expensive improvement they could make there is improving the dinner bread. They give a whole loaf to each table but the texture is not great and it tastes like nothing. Surely they can do better. Another gripe is they only serve very weak black coffee (but kudos for offering oat milk!). An espresso costs $6. $6. One other thing I liked was that they offered real vegan and GF desserts. Usually if i ask, I’m offered a scoop of strawberry sorbet or something. They had honest to goodness vegan cakes which were very tasty. All the staff we interacted with were very pleasant. I was let down by the spa since I’d read several reviews about ‘best massage ever.’ I got the neck and shoulder massage, expecting the therapist to really get in there and work on my many knots but despite asking for all the pressure, it was very light and did not offer any relief. If you want a massage that puts you to sleep, I guess this is for you. I did enjoy spending several hours at the spa and dipping in and out of the facilities and reading in between. The outdoor pool is very nice in the cold weather but only accommodates 9 people. I’d love to come back during the spring-summer-fall but it’s so pricey we unfortunately can’t afford it.
