Booked as a second birthday meal after a not very satisfactory one the night before. This was more like it.
On arrival shown to the table and settled in in a calm and professional manner, not easy in the se days of vaccination and temperature checking.
There is only the Chefs tasting menu and we opted for that, substituting the pigeon for a wagyu beef course.
There was an ample and excellent wine pairing, each element being explained by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic servers.
The bread, served with a broth and an intricate silken cheese dip was lovely and it was tempting to eat too much of it !
The amuse bouche of a pepper leaf cone filled with caviar etc. and a creamed dip was tasty and well thought out.
The pumpkin and scallop with a pumpkin consommé was very interesting.
I am not a huge fan of abalone but this one, served in a barley broth was very tasty.
The fritter of Acarajé and Vatapá served in a turmeric and laksa style sauce was truly lovely.
The strawberry and tomato salad was a refreshing boost to the palate before the Vietnamese styled fish which was a thoughtful well balanced dish
the Wagyu was a little overcooked for me and had lost a little flavour for it.
The pre- dessert mandarin confection was refreshing and zest to the tongue and palate. the dessert was a deconstructed variation of Ukrainian borscht . I was intrigued to see and taste this and it was excellent.
The Mignardises were creative thoughtful and a real birthday greeting/ treat, a birthday micro cheesecake.
the 7 wines in the pairing were delightful and only one kind of missed the mark, (the Lebanese rose)
Not cheap but exceptionally well done. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable le and enthusiastic, the place was intimate and cosy.
