Podhalanka Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
CASH ONLY! The people who came in were often regulars.
Come in for a taste of Chicago. The waitress was really nice! She recently came to America from Poland, and I love that this restaurant is giving new immigrants opportunities. I really liked the barley soup. It was very solid. It was my favorite. The potato and cheese perogis were hearty and delicious. Solidly executed. I recommend. However, they're heavy. I wouldn't get these as a snack. The hibiscus juice is well-made, but it is NOT mildly sweetened hibiscus tea. Totally different. I wouldn't get it again, but I'm glad I tried it.
Family run modest space.
Greg cares about what you eat and he takes what he does seriously. Get the homemade juice. Cash only.
Went for lunch with some coworkers, wanted to try something
Went for lunch with some coworkers, wanted to try something different so we decided to give this place a shot. The good: Cabbage soup was excellent, sausages were yummy and tasted homemade. Potato pancakes were also top notch. Food was authentic Polish food as far as i could tell. Sever/owner was very welcoming and nice. food was all hot and fresh. The bad: Has Visa/MC sign in window but was cash only. The menu was hard to figure out what to get. We told our server (may have been the owner) this and he asked what we were looking for. Stated we wanted to try a few different things, specifically the sausages, soup potato pancakes and perogies. He said he understands and he can do that, he will bring out some plates we can share, we were excited, this was perfect (we thought). In about 10 minutes he brought us out a couple plates, nice. We were sharing this yummy food. Then he said he was gonna bring us some drink too. All good, but then it was another plate and another plate. At this time we should have told him to stop, but we made the mistake of diving in. Stuffed cabbage, little blintzes, pitcher of what we think was plum juice. maybe 8-9 plates in total. We were thinking, we didn't need this much food or ask for it, but maybe he was being generous showing off his menu to us. Out legit Polish lunch is done, got the bill, ouch! it was over 105 dollars for 4 people. Of course we ate most of the food, so we paid it, plus tip. Will we be going back, NO, will I maybe order a soup to go in the future, maybe. Came back to work and talked to a coworker and she stated the EXACT same thing happened to her going there 3 years ago. Whole lunch was a bit strange, I take this as a learning experience and will not go back.

I looked this place up online before my Chicago trip and it
I looked this place up online before my Chicago trip and it did not disappoint. It's a small place and very mom and pop. When we walked in there were only two ladies sitting at the counter and an older gentleman serving. He greeted us right away and was very nice and made recommendations on what to eat so he just kept bringing us stuff to try. My favorite were the Pierogis, the potato pancakes, and the cabbage soup. I did not see parking anywhere besides on the streets. It doesn't seem like it's in the best neighborhood but the food was really great if you like polish food. Please try this place out if you live in Chicago or are visiting. We went in the daytime around 11am and it was not busy.
Greg treat us well when we came here.
When we walked in, it was quite sparse, with the exception of two older polish ladies having their coffee and soup. You can tell it's a spot for locals. There's polish regalia on the walls, full of tchotchkes and knick knacks. Greg greeted us and asked what we were here for, we replied with Polish food since there aren't many options at home to try. We were also served some fresh juice, I believe it was pomegranate. We were served a plethora of food, descriptions follow below. White Borscht Soup - was creamy, slightly sour, had thin slices of sausage. It was great to have on a cold day. Cabbage soup - I prefer this one, it was hearty, full of vegetables, I think it had some shredded meat in it. Potato pancakes - served hot and crispy, with sour cream and applesauce. These were great, I've had ones that were basically hash browns. These were handshaped, tender inside, crispy outside. Cheese Blintz - like deep fried crepes with a slightly sweet cheese filling. They were okay, better when fresh and hot as it was served. I don't think they were my favorite but if you like crispy things filled with cheese, this is for you Stuffed cabbage - fulled with pork and rice, topped with a tomato gravy with a side of boiled potatoes. This was like a warm hug. Pierogis - we were served potato and cheese, meat and cabbage and meat. The dough was tender and soft. The fillings were well seasoned and tasted great. Polish sausage - these were large, cooked well. The sausage had a great snap when bitten into, great flavor and cooked well and crisp on the outside. For all of this food, it came out to about $85. We left full and happy.
Just like grandma used to make
Great old school polish restaurant in the old polish triangle in Chicago. Food will bring back memories of your grandmother's kitchen. Enjoy the juice! The cabbage soup is delicious.
So, SO good.
The food of my people. This is a Polish restaurant, but this type of food is eaten all over Eastern Europe. It's a humble little restaurant, and hasn't changed in years. Don't ever change! It's fantastic! There's a lunch counter for 1 or 2 people, or large tables, so you can bring all your friends. First I ate white Borscht. OMG, so tangly and delicious. This is a milky soup with sausage and a few vegetables. IT IS SO GOOD. My companion had the cabbage soup, and that was also great - tangy, yet buttery. Just delicious. After that, I had a beet salad, and we got some potato pancakes. Both things were incredible. Next time, I'll go for those PEROGI! It's BYOB if that's how you roll, I definitely do! I love that this island of authenticity is holding it's own in the increasing gentrification of Wicker Park. Don't ever change, Podhalnka!!
Wow. When I stepped through that door, it felt like I was
Wow. When I stepped through that door, it felt like I was transported to Poland. The person who took our order was so attentive and offered us complimentary soups and drinks. Mind you, I'm not a fan of cabbage, but that cabbage soup rocked my world. We ordered potato pancakes, sausage and perogies. Everything was a hit. I'd recommend coming here. Cash only
Podhalanka is very authentic Polish restaurant, and I felt
Podhalanka is very authentic Polish restaurant, and I felt like I was having a delicious homemade meal! I especially loved the pierogis and potato pancakes. They were top notch!
Top Notch pirogies.
Great old school vibe like a grandmas kitchen. Need to to back and try some more dishes.
A good traditional Polish restaurant in Chicago
The restaurant is located in the Polish neighborhood of Chicago, a historic Eastern European community in the Illinois metropolis. The food is pure traditional Polish cuisine, you should not expect any particular dishes or Western/American preparations. I got a pork cutlet with potatoes and salad, as well as a tomato soup. I must say everything is very good and genuine in its homemade simplicity. The meat was very lean (as specifically requested) and very tender, the potatoes and the typical sauce very interesting and the soup very good (but if you have acidity problems, I recommend avoiding it). The owner was courteous. I gave 4 stars because the place is sad inside, it almost has the air of a small restaurant in the most remote and insignificant Soviet provinces. I repeat, you will not find Rossini fillets on golden plates nor a Polish restaurant interpreted in a modern way, but rather a traditional place in the broadest sense of the term.
Truly amazing
Caution: Cash only. We came here based on recommendations. Well worth it. The soups are fantastic. The pierogies very good; the sausage excellent; the stuffed pepper good; the blintzes excellent. The decor is plain; but, the food is the star here. You will feel like you are at your grandmother's house enjoying a lovingly-prepared meal.
Did not disappoint, worth venturing out of downtown to visit
We spent eight years living in Poland and this restaurant did not disappoint our nostalgia trip. Our Kids tried Polish foods for the first time and loved it. Deliciously light fried fish, hand made pierogi, melt in your mouth ribs, tasty żurek, perfect kapusta kiszona, There is no alcohol served but pop down the road to Rite Liquors and bring your own Okocim, Warka etc. The gentleman that served us at Rite was a true gent. Also delightful Pani z Krakowa served us with charm at Podhalanka. It’s a bit out of the city center but highly recommend for a visit. Interior reminiscent of Poland in the late 80s/early 90s when we lived there. Closes at 8, so plan accordingly.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!

Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
