Portage Bay Cafe - Roosevelt Seattle Reviews from The Last Year
Great Place for Breakfast/Brunch
We were staying in the University district and our hotel didn't have a restaurant so we were looking for a place for breakfast. Portage Bay Cafe was a couple of blocks away and was a real treat. We had a hearty breakfast with prompt service and excellent coffee served in a full sized mug. The menu was full of items we would have liked to try and we'll looking forward to coming back again.
Great food in the U District.
Fantastic food, many options, great service. The jam was amazing, the veggie hash was the absolute best. The fruit was fresh. Highly recommended.
This is an update as I have been several times in the past
This is an update as I have been several times in the past and thought it was quite good. I feel like the quality has gone downhill over time. I had the Joe's breakfast scramble which was much smaller than in the past and was overpowered w strong cheese. My husband had the French toast which was fine and came with a trip to the berry bar (the best part of the restaurant IMO) where there is a sign that says no repeat trips. Fine, but then perhaps offer the opportunity to buy a second trip? The wait staff was not very friendly and seemed annoyed to be serving us. The tea bag was very weak and when we asked for a second we were told we'd have to buy the tea bag. Coffee was ok but for a city with amazing coffee i expected better. We don't live here but on our next trip we may skip it.
So glad we tried this restaurant.
My mom ordered the farmers hash bowl and loved it. I had the oatmeal cobbler French toast and thought it was good. I loved that it came with a trip to get fresh fruit and whipped cream. The coffee was dark and the food is organic.
A friend recommend who nailed it again.
I ordered the banana foster French toast with house made challah bread (I was not a huge fan of the bread), but this was a part of the endless topping menu that allowed a single trip to a breakfast bar that had fresh fruit, nuts and whipping cream-I loaded up! On a Tuesday late morning I got right in and food came out in minutes.
Wonderful brunch their with friends.
I got simple oatmeal which was amazing, topped with fruit and things from the topping bar. NOTE: Parking lot is around the back - off street.

The food took forever, well over 20 minutes and our waitress wasn't the friendliest or most attentive. The fruit bar looked delicious and the it appeared to be a popular place. We were seated immediately, it wasn't overly crowded and they didn't appear to be understaffed, so it was surprising how long it took to get two plates. My water had been empty since before my food arrived and our waitress didn't check on us after we received our food and only filled my water once she came to take my plate away. The breakfast burrito was ok. Just ok. The breakfast sandwich was dry and when asked for a side of aioli sauce we weren't advised it was an extra $2.50... lame. We only saw it was on the bill. No acknowledgment for the long time it took to get food, water, or to serve us. She may have been overwhelmed or just having an off day. Either way it was awkward at the end when she wasn't pleased with her 10% tip. She barely earned that, I was being courteous.
Delicious breakfast, great service.
I has the Migas with pork it was excellent full of great spices
Super disappointed with this meal.
It was incredibly overpriced and while the berry bar was fun, it wasn't worth it. Lots of upcharges on the menu: $8 split plate fees, upcharges for swinging to vegetarian or adding small amounts of meat. My husband was served old eggs and no one finished their meals. Given the reviews I would have expected more. One of our meals was forgotten and came out late. Another server was incredibly rude. Will not be coming back!

My son and I were in town for an accepted student tour at UW. We're from Maine so very unfamiliar with Seattle and the UW area in general so relied on good old yelp to help us find meals. Portage Bay Cafe was one of the best meals we had on our entire trip. Excellent service, great coffee and both of our breakfasts were phenomenal. Highly recommend!
Go to brunch spot where I know what I'm getting.
I always order the crab Benedict with the fresh crab and not the crab cake. I have gone to all of there locations and I prefer this one as it is easier to get a reservation and has parking. I have tried some of the seasonal dishes but I always find myself back to my original order. I take anyone visiting here as I feel it's a must. The ambiance is very brunch at this location nothing fancy and the service is quite quick.
Minimal wait time.
Pleasant wait staff. We had 2 great versions of eggs Benedict and were very pleased. Choice of potatoes or salad and the option to add avocado or other flavor enhancers.
This place was meh.
I actually didn't enjoy the shakshuka. Serving a tomato dish in a metal cast-iron skillet means that the taste is going to be metallic, and the fact that poached eggs are an integral part of the dish didn't help. The server was nice but he had a bad habit of just asking one half of the table what they wanted and then walking away, so we had to make sure we caught him before he left. My friend who got the veggie hash thought it was okay; she wasn't super impressed by it.
More like 3.
5 stars! There is a spacious parking lot in the back for customers so no need to find to find street parking. Came in around 11:30 on a Friday, there was no wait to get seated. We quickly ordered after we were seated. There were a good amount of other people throughout the restaurant. My friend and I both got the classic eggs benedict. I added tomato on mine. There were plenty of ham slices and the eggs were kind of small. Although the yolk was runny, the yolk itself was so small it really wasn't the main part of the dish. The bread(english muffin?) was kind of tough to cut. Overall was not bad, but nothing too spectacular about this benedict. I have had better. The potatoes were pretty good. Not too flavorful, but plenty of sauce options on the table like ketchup and sriracha. Nothing amazing about this place, but nothing too bad either. Won't be dying to come back, but won't have any complaints if I had to go again.
One of my favorite brunch spots in the city.
Their eggs benedict is delicious. I understand why they offer a side of their hollandaise. It's that good
Food is great, but if you decide to make a reservation
Food is great, but if you decide to make a reservation through their online service - you will still need to wait an additional 30-45 minutes. EVEN if you booked an hour in advance. Our party values honesty and transparency, and Portage Bay Cafe missed the mark. If you've read this far, please don't be discouraged to eat there. It's a great spot, but if you're limited on time and would rather make reservations than stand outside in line for 30-45 minutes, then I suggest you skip this place. Lots of other local restaurants that are worthwhile in Seattle.
We came here with friends and had a reservation for 12.
Still needed to wait an additional 30 minutes to be seated despite our reservation. This was the case for many other people too, it seemed most of the people waiting around had a reservation for an earlier time. We tried the banana foster French toast and a scramble which we really enjoyed! Our friends shared an oatmeal cobbler French toast and were told the split charge would be $9 on top of the original price - basically just covering a second trip to the fruit bar which seemed a bit expensive. I enjoyed the food and the liveliness of this place but it was also too loud to really communicate with our friends here and our server hardly checked in with us and didn't even ask how the food was after it came out. Overall, I'm glad we tried it and again we enjoyed our food but I don't know if it is worth the stressful parking situation, extra wait times, loud ambience, and lack of service.
Terrin made my visit.
His vibe is frickin' awesome. Would come back just to get a mimosa with him if they'd let me.
Portage was so good! The cobbler french toast was ok.
Was a little too sweet for me. The shakshuka had great flavor. I hadn't had anything like it. The kick of spice was a good heat level to be honest. Not too spicy. The homemade bread was so good to dip in the tomato based sauce and pierce the poached eggs. So satisfying and yummy! Service was great and they have a nice covered outside seated area for when it gets warmer out. They also have blankets for the outside tables too incase its a little chilly. That is a nice touch.
Probably the top breakfast option near UW Seattle
High end breakfast with great service and coffee to boot! Gluten free options abound as well. Fresh ingredients were oblivious with each bite. I went for the Seattle Benedict with Dungeness Crab and sautéed heavy greens…perfect, delicious, and worth the price tag. Sunday brunch time is packed.
Family breakfast at Portage Bay
Went there for breakfast yesterday; we were lucky to get in quickly based on what I have heard people say about this place and based on what I have seen people queueing on Roosevelt during my previous drive-bys......it seems to be an extremely popular place around UDub....so we timed it nicely about mid morning. We ordered omelets and different kinds of eggs benedicts to share amongst us. I ordered a Seattle benedict with dungeness crab and it came with avocados and arguela leaves and it was fantastic.....price is a little steep ~ $23 for a breakfast.....ouch! and the quantity was enough for me to gulp it all....my parents ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, mushrooms, sausage and spinach...and it was delicious but again for a price tag ~ $20, the quantity was not enough. My wife ordered a veggie benedict and that too was delicious but for the price I would say the quantity was a little skimpy. So, based on my observations, I would give this place a B+ grade. Good place but pricey and portion sizes are smaller.
Good breakfast option in U town
Great breakfast choices with healthy options as well as gluten free. Good service and fair pricing. A breathe of fresh air
Good gluten free options but poor service
We were overall slightly disappointed by our breakfast at Portage Bay. The food is great and it’s probably the best place to find gluten free breakfast food. However the place was very crowded and the service pretty poor. Our waiter was overstressed as he had to tend to too many tables probables and made many small ordering mistakes. Lastly the food was not very hot, which is for me a “no no”.
Great breakfast/brunch spot
We were staying at the University Inn next door and were really pleased to find the Portage Bay Cafe next door. What a great breakfast/brunch spot! Excellent and varied menu choices, the french toast was amazing! Would thoroughly recommend. Very, very busy on the weekend so try and reserve if you can but definitely worth the effort to go!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
