Restaurant Shinsaku Reviews from The Last Year

Food is pretty mid but this place is super sentimental to me so I'll always go back. The nigiri and rolls are good but don't expect to have ur socks blown off. The service is good, mostly student workers. Super cute and quaint on the inside. We love sitting in the back booth

My friend and I both got food poisoning from here and have been throwing up all day. Disappointing because the prices are so affordable.

Can't say I'm an expert in sushi but we thought this was delicious and great bang for your buck on Franklin. Cute little restaurant and yummy gyoza too
On a cold winter day, I wanted to try the Ramen at Karuma.
The prices attracted me to the restaurant. I ordered a half bowl of Ramen for $4.50 and an appetizer of beef gyoza for $4.50. It feels very cozy & like a hole in the wall space but they seem understaffed for having to also produce to go orders. I knew when I walked in that it would not be speedy service. If you go, have patience and do not try to go for a "quick bite." I went at 12:30pm and it was pretty empty when I went but by the time I left around 1:30pm, the small venue was packed. You get what you pay for, there was nothing special about the flavors of my dishes that would attract me to go out of my way to go back to this restaurant. Im glad that I was able to try it.
The noodles were great and the beef side amazing.
It is a nice place for a quick dinner and the prices were really good. I would not recommend the curry dish since it was quite bland.
Definitely among one of the worst places I've tried on
Definitely among one of the worst places I've tried on Franklin. I was craving sushi and wanted to try out this place since it was pretty cheap. I went on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't too busy. There were only two waitresses running around taking orders, which was ok due to the really small restaurant space. I ordered the UNC roll and a garden salad at around 6:30 and I didn't get my roll until about 7:40. That's absurd. There was only one sushi guy in the middle making all of the sushi, so he was obviously overloaded with orders. The salad also took a good 45 minutes to come to me. How hard is throwing a bunch of greens together una bowl with dressing on it? Not to mention the dressing was so flavorless and super watery. The UNC roll (when it finally came) tasted pretty good, but definitely not worth the very long wait. Unfortunately, I was not full after this meal, so I just went next door to grab a slice of pizza. Additionally, the air quality inside was really odd. Me and my friend's eyes started burning up about halfway through our meal, and we didn't know why. My friend even had to step outside because her eyes were so watery and hurt so badly. Suspicious. Overall, I wouldn't come back here.
Food is pretty cheap and there are a variety of sushi
Food is pretty cheap and there are a variety of sushi options and ramen! The place is also really cute and is a good comfort place. I didn't really like the ramen too much. It tasted really watery. But I liked the sushi!!
Very great food and service.
My partner and I had the Cali roll with the miso and Veggie Ramen. We also had the shrimp tempura and spring rolls. The pricing is really good for the amount of food that we have gotten. We came around lunch time so it was fairly dead. The server was really attentive. Would recommend.
I live in Hawaii and eat sushi and poke at least 1-2x week
I live in Hawaii and eat sushi and poke at least 1-2x week or more. The sushi chef Hido is a formally trained chef im both western and Asian cuisine. I had his Nigiri Sushi this day and gyoza. Ambience is nice with enough room at the sushi bar or tables. You have to remember this is a college crowd with mostly students there. Not many Japanese Nationals around so the sushi caters to a more American crowd. Hido's wife often works there as a server and the service was good, she was very attentive. The Gyoza was soft, chewy and flavorful, not over cooked. His style of sushi cutting is very good and I'm able to get plenty of soy on my piece before gulping it down. His service was good and prices are very reasonable. You won't find Bluefin Tuna here, it's not that kind of place or crowd. Great place if you want to sit by yourself for a quick bite or if you want to relax and eat with friends. He knows what he is doing, trust me I've been eating sushi for a long time and have been to a million sushi restaurants. Kurama's is probably your best bet out of the places there.
