Root Down Denver Reviews from The Last Year

I just wanted to say I came back 9 years later and the chicken and biscuit still did not disappoint! We came in on a Saturday morning and it was not crowded. Parking was street and easy to find. In the appetizers we all shared one pancake... I forgot the name... but that was delicious as well. Perfect for us because I don't think we could have fit more food in us!
One of my favorite celiac-safe restaurants in Denver.
Never disappoints. Phenomenal waitstaff and delicious food!
Nice find on a Yelp search.
Wonderful happy hour. A wonderful retro vibe of an establishment. The lamb sliders were delicious. The pakoras were way on point. Our host and wait staff were excellent. Would absolutely repeat if in the area. There's a location at t hut e airport that has excellent reviews for airport options.
Incredible service, intentional ingredients, and great
Incredible service, intentional ingredients, and great ambience! We decided to walk-in for brunch at Root Down this past weekend and I was really pleased with the whole experience. Our server was the Bar Manager, who went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied. When my friend expressed her dietary restrictions, he went out of his way to bring over the allergy guide and walk us through every ingredient, making customizations to the dish she was interested in. I ordered the Chilaquiles with a side of the Black Pepper Bacon. While I was disappointed by the portion size, the flavors were otherworldly. When I expressed this to the server, he comped my entire order(this was not the expectation and we made sure to tip generously). Even during the brunch rush, I felt as though the customer service far surpasses other brunches I've experienced in Denver. I will absolutely be returning to try brunch again, am looking forward to dinner service, and will be asking the staff what dishes they think outshine others.
I could have sworn I visited Root Down before coming here
I could have sworn I visited Root Down before coming here for Restaurant Week. Guess not! Started out in the bar area (side room) to close out happy hour with my partner before the reservation I had with a group of friends. Would come back just for their tasty cocktails and appetizer specials. Customer service here is fantastic. Vibes are overall excellent. Had the following from the Restaurant Week menu: * Vadouvan Roasted Cauliflower * Devils on Horseback * Rockfish Tom Kha * Thai Lime Chia Pudding Everything was delicious! Especially the Tom Kha. I had a little leftover, which I took home, and it was still amazing. Everything is so artfully presented. All Edible Beats restaurants make such great date night or business dinner spots. Parking can be a challenge, so budget extra time for that. My partner got a gift card on sale, which hopefully means I'll be back soon.

I have been to Root Down a couple of times and it has become one of my favorite brunch spots. Their menu is exactly what I look for, not overpowering & greasy but still delicious, and their morning cocktails/mimosas elevate the experience. I have had the pleasure of having Mondo and Audrey as servers on separate occasions, and both were so attentive and knowledgeable. Their service truly catered to my experience, and was above and beyond. Thank you!
Yelp mistakenly lists this as vegan/vegetarian when it is
Yelp mistakenly lists this as vegan/vegetarian when it is most definitely not. However, the vegetarian options were tasty. A nice environment for a date.
Fabulous food.
I ordered a salad. I know I know - vegan places have other options. I was just in the mood for one. OMG - beyond delicious. Crunchy fresh goodness that I had to slow down from shoveling in my mouth. And I'm a total carnivore! If you are a total vegan or just want a meatless day RUN here. It's worth every penny.
Came for dinner with a friend.
Would recommend reservations at dinner time as they get pretty busy. I started my meal with the beet salad, was superrrrr yummy. For main course I had the Colombian arepas and added plantains and avocado. Overall had great flavor. We split a dessert, it was a thin mint brownie with vanilla ice cream. And drink wise I had the rhubarb-Rita. Overall everything was super yummy. Would definitely comeback
A fine dining experience with hole-in-the-wall charm.
However, unlike a hole-in-the-wall, it's quality over quantity here. Bring all your tastebuds to the table to enjoy all the nuanced and expertly curated flavors and textures. The staff were laid back, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the food. Plan to spend a pretty penny ($100+) and try as many things as you can, from appetizers to dessert. Also, check out the toilets!
Food okay
Nothing special and definitely overpriced. Was given a brunch menu and was expecting a lunch menu. They said they only serve bunch and dinner.
Gluten-free free, no really!
I visited Root Down on Thursday in the Denver Airport. I am celiac, so I was looking for something other than a salad. There were numerous gluten-free options listed on the menu. I tried the corn cakes. My waitress Maureen assured me they were gluten-free. I didn't particularly care for the corn cakes, but it was fun to try something different. Maureen told me they had a dedicated fryer for French fries and also a gluten-free cookie. WHAT? That rarely happens. I also tried the fries, and it was such a treat. Maureen twisted my arm, and I took the gluten-free cookie to go. Maureen was so knowledgeable about a gluten-free diet. It was so refreshing. Maureen is a definite asset to this restaurant. Thank you, Maureen. I'll be back.
See you again soon
I visit this restaurant every time in in Denver I won’t go into details as I think I’ve reviewed in twice over the years Excellent flavours and choices. Good service, and great ambience
Fun menu and cocktails
We prefer a few of the classics at the airport location, but this is a fun place to grab drinks and dessert when in the Highlands area! Service is always very attentive and the biggest issue is trying to find parking in the area.
Good Food Disappointing Service
We recently went to Root Down for dinner. It’s a lovely restaurant and service on entering the restaurant was welcoming and friendly. The main food dishes were great, my cocktail the Harvest Martini was awful, it was like drinking rocket fuel. Our server messed up several of our orders, as well as added an additional cocktail to our bill. The whole service she seemed very distracted, this was super disappointing. For dessert we all tried the Miso Custard, the presentation was lovely but this dessert was not balanced in flavor, it was too salty for our liking. The cost for four drinks, four main dishes and two desserts before tipping was approximately $195.
A very bad experience.
Hello, my items that I ordered where not of my expectations. I ordered on line the beet salad, avocado slices, chipotle soup, and rockfish dinner. They tasted bad, and old. I got sick. I am very upset about my bad experience. Thank you. Marie S.
Food is impossible to eat
This restaurant has to be up there with the worse eating places I have ever frequented. The food is remarkably expensive and basically inedible. The sliders are so spicy that you cannot eat them. The chicken nuggets for kids are dry, burnt and again essentially inedible. When we visited at first, I thought this was a joke or one of those TV shows that creates a setting asking, "what would you do?". For a place that advertises as high end, the food is unbelievably low-end. Save yourself much grief and chose anything, anywhere, rather than this place. There are no redeemable qualities to this restaurant!
An exotic experience
We tried most of the little plates and liked every single one. The main entree options were limited so we just shared little plates. Every item was unique and tasty, but expensive. You have to have an open mind about flavors. Save this place for a special occasion. Parking was also a challenge as you have to park on the street.
Great food, value, aervice
We’ve found many great dining establishments in Denver where Root Down is our favorite during our 7-day visit to this great city. We arrived at Root Down for our reservations at 5:30 which allowed us to take advantage of the happy hour and dinner menus. The items overlap somewhat across both menus and worth timing your visit to choose from both menus. From the happy hour menu, we selected the duck wings, lamb slider (also as an entree on the dinner menu), arepa, and beet salad. From the dinner menu, we ordered the Devils on Horseback, and Lamb 2-way. Everything was phenomenal. The duck wings are jerk seasoned though have a strong East Indian spice influence - if you like your food with a high spice level, the duck wings are a top choice. Lamb sliders were cooked to a perfect temperature with a middle eastern flavor profile. The arepas was sweet, savory, spicy (just a hint) and perfectly balanced. We ended up ordering more lamb sliders and arepas. I wanted to order another round of duck wings but the voice of reason (my wife) suggested we move on to ordering other items. The Devils on Horseback were a hit - an explosion of flavors from the skewered balls. Final item was the lamb entree - 2 pieces of t-bone lamb over couscous and diced lamb sausage. The lamb was cooked to a perfect temperature complimented the other ingredients well. The menu represents a multitude of global cuisines and does justice to each one so that it doesn’t seem like a hodge-podge. The service was impeccable and attentive. The drinks were well crafted and, almost forgot our dessert choice - Chocolate Bombe - great and fitting touch to a great dining experience - great combination of flavors, not over-the-top, not understated.
One of the Best Farm to Food
One of the best farm to food restaurants. Went there with my daughter and wife as we were checking out places to live for my daughter in the Denver area. The food was exceptional. Incredibly fresh and original. The three of us have gluten or celiac issues and they were more than accommodating for that issue. Highly recommend Root Down if you are in the Denver area.
