We have been to many Gordon Ramsey restaurants over the years and to the Savoy Grill before and thought this would be another lovely delicious meal. The staff were, as always very pleasant and helpful. However the Sunday lunch menu was dull and uninspired. The starters are reminiscent of what the Savoy might have served pre-war. As it was Sunday there were roasts of pork or beef in addition to the other dishes - all of which were somewhat pedestrian in the descriptions. To make the most of the main meal we did not have a starter. We don’t eat beef so chose the pork chop roast (£40) - beautifully cooked and the Duck (£45) - which was good - with a side dish of broccoli. To our surprise the Yorkshire Puddings came stuffed with beef and the gravy was made with beef stock, none of which was indicated on the menu. It was only the vigilance of the excellent staff that alerted us to this when the dish arrived at the table. It was then taken away and the replacement Yorkshire pudding was dark brown and over cooked and the dish of Bernaise sauce, which was bought ( without asking ) in replacement for the beef gravy, did nothing for pork chop meal. The roast potatoes were dry and hard and there were two thin glazed carrots accompanied by hispi cabbage which was tasty. Was this really the best they could do? The champagne was good but the muscadet was ordinary and at £12 a glass wasn’t as good as the bottle I could have bought at a decent supermarket. When the main meal was finished and being cleared the staff member asked ‘how was the food’ but by then it was too late. No-one had returned to our table to check how our meal was whilst we were eating it - a pretty basic rule of the hospitality industry. Overall an underwhelming meal and a disappointment. Come on Gordon Ramsey - get a grip.
