Scampo Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Great food, service and ambience located in a beautiful
Great food, service and ambience located in a beautiful hotel. The spaghetti's are great as well as the lobster pizza. Delicious desserts. Overall a great experience.
BOSTON
Rode the transit system and had no problems. In fact they were very friendly and extremely helpful. I’m Retired Navy and any Retired Military ride the transit system for free. We were invited to ride the USS Constitution for the annual turn around. That was super.
Our service was amazing.
Our favorites were the garlic bread and pizza. Pizza is a nice thin crispy crust and packed with flavor. The Caesar salad is one of those that comes with the romaine leaves uncut. It also has pieces of boiled egg on the side. More than anything, top notch service from B.A..

I have visited Scampo on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. I sat at the bar both times, so can't quite comment on service at a table, but the bar service was good, no complaints. The drinks are fantastic, and I love their wine selection. The menu is interesting, but anything I have had here has been immaculate. The pasta servings are perfect for one person! Patrick's naan with prosciutto is phenomenal, so light and airy yet filling! A very unique appetizer or even dinner option! The ambience is very modern and sultry, and I will always love Scampo for a nice night out in the city.

I took my wife there for our anniversary dinner and her favorite, Brandi Carlisle concert after. Had an exquisite bottle of Chianti with a thumbs up from our sommelier. Appetizers were fabulous, entrees were spectacular, desert was scrumptious, service was impeccable! Almost didn't realize they were there, but were when we needed something. A fantastic dining experience as we've come to expect from Lydia Shire. We were frequent diners at Biba back in the day, and she hasn't skipped a beat since. Highly recommended!
Poor food poor service
Ordered pan seared red snapper with lobster risotto made with olive oil. Specifically asked for no butter, no cream, no sour cream, no cream fresh, etc. What I got. Very pretty presentation. But… risotto was made with butter and cream. Asparagus was grilled but burned and inedible. Fish was good but served skin up. It was presumably cooked in olive oil but it was floured. I flipped the fish over and squeegeed the fat off… ate the fish only. They brought more asparagus since the lat one was burned… The next one came carbonized.

Had an awesome meal here.
We sat outside and enjoyed a salad and a pizza. Everything was outstanding and the atmosphere was top notch!

I have food allergies, tough ones (garlic, tree nuts) and the chefs made me a gorgeous veal chop and a dessert that were both delicious and special. It's hard to have a special night out, but all of the staff had class and treated me beautifully. The food, drinks and service were ALL outstanding.

OK first off let me say that I have never given a yelp review before. This restaurant was so good that it made me download this app so I could tell you guys how good it was. We got the white asparagus soup and the Burrata Dutch baby to start. Amazing- everything about it. For my entree I got the Nebraska prime sirloin it was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. Service was excellent and we even sat at the bar because it was so full and they still provided excellent service and great ambience. if I could give this place six stars I would and it is worth the price. I will be back here the next time I'm in Boston. God bless this restaurant.
A let down
Husband and I stayed in Hotel last weekend for long weekend getaway. The best restaurant in hotel is Scampo, but that isn’t saying much. First visit sat at bar, made friends with the pretty Italian bartender. She did her best to guide us thru menu, made good drinks, gave good wine advice. Speaking Italian with her was fun! The older bartender was unfriendly, made us a round of drinks on return visit later the first night that were just bad. No cocktail making skill. And the pasta here, not really good. Overcooked, not al dente, soupy bolognese that came out literally 2 minutes after ordering, like it was slopped into the bowl from preheated batch. Carbonara was weird, all heavy not reduced cream mush. Barolo was good. Thank you pretty Italian bartender (forgot your name!)

Ate here last night as part of a large group so the menu was set with some choices. Often times these meals, even when at a good restaurant, are not quite up to the normal standard when you go with a smaller group. That was not the case here. Every bite from appetizer through entree and dessert was delicious. Items were exquisitely prepared with great attention to detail. I had a scallop appetizer with hamachi crudo, chili crisp chicken, and a sorbet dessert. Again, each bite was delicious. My husband had a wonderful Caesar salad, orecchiette with Turkish lamb meatballs, and Tiramisu. I had a bite of his meatballs. I really found it amazing that they did a variety of styles from Asian to Turkish so well. In addition, I have to say that the service was top notch as well, very attentive, and even though we were clearly closing out the place, they never left us feeling unwelcome and were truly wonderful! Kudos! This will be on my list of must go places when I'm back in Boston.
Just okay, not worth the money
The restaurant looks nice but it’s trying to be something it is not. Meal was expensive. The cocktails were not good, they tasted like orange squash and couldn’t taste any alcohol in them. My duck was lovely but my mum had some green beans with her dish and they were not cooked. The salmon dish tasted like bad cheese. Not enough salt in any of our dishes and when we asked for salt the wait staff looked at us like we were crazy. Please salt your dishes. Our waiter was a bit too much, my father called him smarmy. We spent a lot at this restaurant and it was average.
Excellent servce and food.
Had the duck which was superb, the best I've had in quite a while.

Scampo in Boston hits the mark with its lobster pizza and lobster fried rice--absolutely top tier. The Paper Plane cocktail? Solid. Yet, the haddock lacked seasoning, and was very bland. The staff was exceptional. Their warmth and attentiveness elevated the experience. As for the ambiance? Spot on--inviting and stylish. While the haddock missed the mark, the lobster dishes and overall vibe make Scampo a must-visit.
I have a soft spot for this place.
Seldom to you see Scampo on any Best of Boston list regardless of merit. Perhaps the problem is billing this place as an Italian restaurant. Scampo serves half portions of pasta, if I remember correctly, six different ways. They range in price from eleven to seventeen dollars. A seriously awesome offering. But pasta is not where Scampo shines. Their American entrées rock. When was the last time you ordered braised beef or short Rib and gazed down upon a hapless little chunk of meat (I'm talking to you 1928 Beacon Hill). Not at Scampo. A prodigious fourteen ounce slab of beef awaits. Give this place a shot.
Unimpressed, disappointing take out
Very overpriced @$34 small container of orechette with 3 unseasoned tiny lamb meatballs in a light sauce devoid of garlic. Supposed to be Italian restaurant. Then Caesar salad that I had to ask for anchovies to be added to it. Not classic by any standard and again dressing not even as good as some bottled I’ve bought. Romaine leaves all intact so lots of time trying to cut them with plastic knife.
We had a reservation at the counter.
We weren't very excited about the choice - we felt removed from the dining rooms and bar. Our server was disinterested but the service was adequate. Our chilled wellfleet oysters were very tasty and fresh. Another starter of foie gras was a big disappointment - It was very rare to the point of being raw, I didn't like that. A dish of butternut squash ravioli was good, not great. My partner's spaghetti vongole would have been very tasty had it not been so overwhelmingly spicy. Overall our visit was an expensive disappointment.
My friends and I decided to visit Scampo on a Saturday
My friends and I decided to visit Scampo on a Saturday afternoon. Although we made reservations, it wasn't needed at all. The food at the restaurant was alright. The spaghetti, in my opinion, was rather bland and very oily, but the crackling added a significant improvement. I think more seasoning would've been great for this dish. We were recommended to try the lobster pizza, which turned out to be underwhelming with not much flavor. I also found the pizza not cooked to my liking, as the sauce kept falling off my slices. The salmon was okay overall, but not exciting. On a positive note, the service was excellent. Our server was enthusiastic and attentive to our requests. The restaurant itself provided the perfect ambience for a date night, but I'm not sure if I'd return again.
We went to Scampo 4 years ago, and had the most excellent
We went to Scampo 4 years ago, and had the most excellent dining experience ever, but alas, that has changed. The ambience is gone, and the food was cold and just horrible. How could it go downhill so fast? Seems more like a bar and meetup place for corporate types staying at the Liberty Hotel.
Very good service and food - on the expensive side
Food and service were excellent. Drinks too but a bit pricey. Hostess was lovely and seated us right away, giving us a choice of tables. Attractive atmosphere, a bit noisy.
Consistency is Key
I usually love Scampo. Fabulous service, bartenders are the best, food usually creative and well-presented. But, was there Saturday, sitting at the bar, and the Lamb Shoulder Chop I ordered had a lot more gristle and connective tissue than it should have. I’ve had this before, earlier this year, and it was very good. I understand a lamb shoulder chop is a bit tough, but I this was way beyond that. Almost inedible in spots. Should have been trimmed more. The worst thing a restaurant can do, in my opinion, is lack consistency. I also had a swordfish dish about a week earlier. It was very tasty, with fabulous quality fish, but I thought was a bit too greasy/oily. Recently, i have been coming to Scampo quite a bit, as a family member is next door at the hospital. It’s a great place for me to escape for high quality food and drink. But please keep the food at the high level this restaurant is known for.
