Great neighborhood , good prices , riverfront property ,
Great neighborhood , good prices , riverfront property , historic , somwhat unique. However room's are small and you will be about five blocks from the subway at 14th street and eighth 8 Ave. Small rooms are not really a problem because you don't come to NYC to stay in your room. Good location if you are a walker because there is a lot to see in the area, which is very expensive if you were to rent there. Great food options in the Village and close to Chelsea Market also. Recommended.

The JANE HOTEL is NoT what it used to beIt was charming, safe, always a good restaurant & most importantly the Staff & Management were Impeccable and welcoming & Truthful !!. THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANY LONGER! First of all the Hotel is under a 2 year or longer reconstruction! the prices have gone up $100 a night at least!!! & DURING CONSTRUCTION, and they DO NOT WARN YOU UNTIL YOU CHECK IN! Too LATE!! I can understand raising the prices in a year or two after construction is completed!! However, NEVER DURING CONSTRUCTION, NOISE & OBSTACLES & rude workman everywhere!! Does not feel safe. The management has completely changed and do not respond to your inquiries or even to emails ??¿¿ REALLY? I have been coming to The Jane Hotel for 12 years or more! Basically same staff & management. Always helpful, kind and welcoming ~ which to me is important as a solo traveller! I always have had great rapport with everyone. It has always felt like coming home! THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANY LONGER!!! The rooms WERE adequate but perfectly clean. The shared bathrooms always had excessive hot water and were cleaned several times a day. $700 for 3 nights. Their website which i book from mentions NO CONSTRUCTION ~ which is odd that they do not warn you before booking. Also major construction across the street! Jolly good Time (NOT) !! I am not sure if the hotel was bought by another company and old management left or were fired, thinking it is my second thought! Sadly i WILL NOT EVER BE RETURNING TO THIS ONCE MAGICAL ICONIC HOTEL! There are plenty of great Hotels in NY for the same price and for sure better than what has sadly happened to The Jane. THE END

Don't even think of staying anywhere else if you like things not of the status quo. Most hotel rooms are generic. When that's your choice as you travel the world you are missing out on the wonderful characteristics, unique quirks, and boundless charm this hotel can bring. Yes, my room was 50' ft and, yes, the bathroom was down the hall but it was not weird or uncomfortable as you are probably imaging. The Jane Hotel is located in an outstanding and gorgeous location. Check it out. Try something new. It was a great experience with equally great staff. Can't wait to go back again!
Be the first to ReplyI cannot believe.
.. nevermind. please do not stay at this hotel. used to be a cool spot to hang at night a decade ago. i just learned of the conditions they have their guest staying in. NOT WORTH IT. worse than the third class rooms on the titanic.

I went to this place a few times a few years ago and it was very cool. Not anymore. Last week with 5 nights of the worst mattress I've ever experienced and a kind of cold staff and I won't be coming back. Cool spot but I'm on goddamn painkillers because of that mattress!
Be the first to ReplyIt's odd that the Jane has its staff wear cute little
It's odd that the Jane has its staff wear cute little uniforms, ala "Grand Budapest Hotel" film, and yet the folks who staff the front desk are - not scowling, maybe, but almost - unsmiling, and they do not seem very approachable under the pillbox hat that says "I'm at your service!" Maybe they resent wearing this servile uniform? I do think the uniforms are demeaning for hotel staff in the 21st century, but, for example, the night shift guy was helpful but seemed to have a bit of a 'tude. (I work with the public myself, and I make an effort to shift into friendly attention when someone approaches the desk.) I asked for a box of kleenex- he said "A whole box?" He gave me the open box on the shelf behind him. I think a box of kleenex, even for a cabin room, is reasonable for $160 a night. I stayed for 2 days over Christmas Eve & Christmas to visit family who were recovering from COVID. The shared bathrooms had overflowing trash baskets, and were not clean. One shower door looked like someone had kicked it in; tiles missing on the floor; no soap in the soap containers at the sink. My room was not cleaned when I went out, even as I put out sign to request that. When I asked why, the desk guy said cleaning needed to 'scheduled.' I said "I wish I would have known that.' I get that there may be a skelton crew, but - heads up that the place will be a dump due to the Christmas holiday, please! Is this about the new ownership? Do they need to hire more people, or give them a raise? I also moved rooms as the only solution to high, cold drafts on the coldest night in ages; I moved all my stuff to a room 'on the warm side' - which was sweltering. I didn't realize there was an air conditioner that I needed to turn on in that room until I called the desk again. So - using a lot of juice to just keep a tolerable temperature - which was still too warm. I slept poorly both nights. I also couldn't figure out the TV; it seemed like the batteries were out, or the remote wasn't working until they fixed the batteries. But there's no option for premium TV or streaming. I have appreciated staying here - about 4 times in the past - because it's somewhat affordable as a place to crash in Manhattan - but it seemed more hospitable and accommodating - and cleaner - during those earlier stays. For another $50 bucks a night, I could have had a class B hotel experience, with my own bathroom.
Be the first to ReplyYou kicked us out for no reason.
I'm genuinely so confused. The vibes WERE nice until we were random selected to leave because we didnt pass an "evaluation"? We paid to get in here as well.

The One thing you look for in a hotel stay is a good night of sleep. Well, we didn't get it here. Facing the Hudson River, our room seemed like it would be nice at first. But when the night fell, and the drag racers started going up and down westside highway and a car idled, blasting music with all doors open, stayed for hours on end, we didn't know what to do except for ear plugs which didn't help. This was extra unfortunate because upon checking in I had requested for a quieter room. So, despite the lovely ambiance and rich history, we will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyI used to LOVE The Jane.
But ever since they priced out the Cafe Gitane, sold out the ballroom and Ru Paul apartment to late night parties where locals and hotel guests are turned away, it's lost its sparkle. Instead, I refer friends to Freehand on the East Side. Pricier, but has a fun vibe with lots of art.

where do I begin? I've stayed here many times and I'm not sure why (I guess wanting to save money and be in the west village) but the last time was the final straw. it's just the worst experience. elevator was broken for more than one visit and they make you lug your suitcase up the stairs yourself, no one helps you. the rooms with the communal bathrooms are obviously tiny but like I guess you know what your getting into. the communal bathrooms are incredibly sketchy and unsafe. i ran into a homeless man using one during my final stay in these rooms. after that i decided to get the captains "suite" with private restroom. it is so small you cannot open a small suitcase on the floor. nice to have a private bathroom I guess but same problems as the other rooms: incredibly loud, impossible to control temperature or the room, terrible service. some of the worst mattresses I've ever encountered. you can stay at the Marriott courtyard in Hudson yards for the same price and it feels like the four seasons. Comfy bed, climate control, great service, a gym, beautiful views, I could go on... Can't believe I ever fell for this dirty hipster money grab hostel. Also avoid Old Rose at all costs! Got the worst food poisoning of my life there. Cherry on top of an already awful stay.
