The Jane Hotel New York Reviews from The Last Year
Do NOT stay here! It’s not what it used to be
I’ve been staying at the Jane for many years as it was quaint, full of history and affordable for a solo traveller. It had a beautiful front lobby with all the staff dressed in burgundy old fashioned porter uniforms. Not any more! The entrance is down some stairs with no signage snd I was greeted with a gentleman wearing flannel. I usually recommend this to friends. But I warn you, DO NOT STAY HERE!! 90 percent of the hotel is under construction and I was actually shocked they were charging regular prices and aren’t more detailed about the construction on their website. Construction workers started at 7am and were constantly working in the stairwell making it very unsafe for guests. The signage was not clear and you never really knew where you were suppose to walk. I ended up in construction areas by accident trying to find my way. Tripped twice and almost falling and getting dust everywhere. I don’t know how this is even legal!!! I felt very unsafe passing workers with huge boards and passing scaffolding in the stairwells. Plus all the dust that is everywhere. I’m not sure what I actually breathed during my stay! The rooms were at least clean enough but you are walking to the showers with construction workers everyone. This will be my last time staying at the Jane!!
Great neighborhood , good prices , riverfront property ,
Great neighborhood , good prices , riverfront property , historic , somwhat unique. However room's are small and you will be about five blocks from the subway at 14th street and eighth 8 Ave. Small rooms are not really a problem because you don't come to NYC to stay in your room. Good location if you are a walker because there is a lot to see in the area, which is very expensive if you were to rent there. Great food options in the Village and close to Chelsea Market also. Recommended.
Misrepresentation!
The website does not show or describe this in its current state. We were made aware of the construction but had no idea how bad it would be. We had to share a mixed bathroom with construction workers. We stayed one night and checked out, and two months later we are still chasing a refund and threatening legal action.
Filthy nightmare
I stayed at the Jane October 5th-9th, 2023. The hotel is under going major renovations and this was explained me at the time of the booking. The room was what I expected however, the filth is not. The carpet is my room was so dirty that I had to keep a towel over it. The elevator was not working half the time and I had to lug my stuff up three flights of stairs. The bathrooms were not clean and I never saw anyone cleaning them. The windows in the hall were left open in the hallway. Someone was smoking cigarettes either in their room or hallway. The walls are thin but the doors are heavy, so you could easily hear other people, and since bathrooms are shared, you could hear heavy doors closing all times of the day and night. I have never stayed in such disgustingly filthy hotel with construction noise on top of it. What a scam to be charged 200 a night.
The JANE HOTEL is NoT what it used to beIt was charming,
The JANE HOTEL is NoT what it used to beIt was charming, safe, always a good restaurant & most importantly the Staff & Management were Impeccable and welcoming & Truthful !!. THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANY LONGER! First of all the Hotel is under a 2 year or longer reconstruction! the prices have gone up $100 a night at least!!! & DURING CONSTRUCTION, and they DO NOT WARN YOU UNTIL YOU CHECK IN! Too LATE!! I can understand raising the prices in a year or two after construction is completed!! However, NEVER DURING CONSTRUCTION, NOISE & OBSTACLES & rude workman everywhere!! Does not feel safe. The management has completely changed and do not respond to your inquiries or even to emails ??¿¿ REALLY? I have been coming to The Jane Hotel for 12 years or more! Basically same staff & management. Always helpful, kind and welcoming ~ which to me is important as a solo traveller! I always have had great rapport with everyone. It has always felt like coming home! THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANY LONGER!!! The rooms WERE adequate but perfectly clean. The shared bathrooms always had excessive hot water and were cleaned several times a day. $700 for 3 nights. Their website which i book from mentions NO CONSTRUCTION ~ which is odd that they do not warn you before booking. Also major construction across the street! Jolly good Time (NOT) !! I am not sure if the hotel was bought by another company and old management left or were fired, thinking it is my second thought! Sadly i WILL NOT EVER BE RETURNING TO THIS ONCE MAGICAL ICONIC HOTEL! There are plenty of great Hotels in NY for the same price and for sure better than what has sadly happened to The Jane. THE END

Breakfast is cheap and delicious outdoor tables too weather permitting.. classic egg dishes and delicious pancakes! Go here.
Under Construction, Dirty
Booked a room for one night because I used to love this hotel and the value it offered. There was no indication on the website that the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations. It’s dirty and noisy. Malfunctioning a/c on one of the hottest nights of the summer. Creepy naked man lurking in the shared bathroom. I do not recommend.
Historic and Totally an Experience
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights because my son is obsessed with Titanic, and if you didn't know. the survivors of the Titanic stayed at this hotel. Yes it is that old. We stayed for 2 nights and it was an experience. The rooms are tiny. It was a struggle for my son and I to both be in the room at the same time unless we were both in our beds. I would not stay here long term but the experience is worth it. The staff are amazing. The bathrooms and rooms are very clean. Yes, the place was under construction but it was listed on the website so you knew when you booked, actually, the construction across the street was louder and woke me up, not the hotel construction. My only big complaint is that there were no ice machines and the water never got that cold. We stayed in August and it was very hot, so it would have been nice to have ice-cold water before going out to tour, and when we returned.
Don't even think of staying anywhere else if you like
Don't even think of staying anywhere else if you like things not of the status quo. Most hotel rooms are generic. When that's your choice as you travel the world you are missing out on the wonderful characteristics, unique quirks, and boundless charm this hotel can bring. Yes, my room was 50' ft and, yes, the bathroom was down the hall but it was not weird or uncomfortable as you are probably imaging. The Jane Hotel is located in an outstanding and gorgeous location. Check it out. Try something new. It was a great experience with equally great staff. Can't wait to go back again!
AVOID!!!
This is not a review that I want to write but I think potential guests should be aware of current circumstances affected by construction at the Jane which are, according to their website, expected to be ongoing until February 2025. I’ve stayed here twice a year for about 7 years (not during the pandemic, obviously) and always been satisfied. In the past: interactions with staff have been positive; rooms, though very small, are functional and clean; although bathrooms are shared I can’t recall having to wait to use a toilet, shower or sink; the location is ideal for access to West Village, Chelsea, Whitney Museum, walks along the Hudson River, etc.; the rates have always been reasonable; and the Jane has a quirky, shabby chic charm that is missing from sterile chain hotels. My recent 6-night visit was a major disappointment after years of being pleased. Construction is taking place which is extremely disruptive. Just some examples of unpleasant conditions: • There was only one working bathroom on the 4th floor since the other one was sealed off, meaning 2 toilets, 2 showers and 2 sinks were to be shared by guests in the 40+ rooms on the floor. Several mornings and evenings it was necessary to wait for a toilet and/or shower being used by other guests. • Three separate instances during the daytime when it was necessary to wait while construction workers used toilets and sinks. One of those times I had to wait for 3 workers who were washing up at what was apparently the end of their shift, using loads of toilet paper to dry their freshly washed faces. Why aren’t there aren’t facilities or portable toilets assigned solely for workers? • The website states that work takes place between 8 AM and 5 PM and will have “minimal impact” but one morning a loud grinding noise from within the bowels of the building started at 7:12 AM. • Signs clearly state that the front entrance and the elevator are for guest and staff use only. Returning from an early morning run the sidewalk and stairs were nearly impassable with construction workers standing and sitting blocking the front entrance. Several times I shared the elevator with construction workers, once with 2 guys who got on at the third floor each with a large garbage can full of debris. In fairness, other times when workers saw that a guest was on the elevator they said that they would wait. It may seem like I’m a snob but the elevator is small and as a paying guest I don’t want to be up close and personal with a dirty/dusty worker hauling trash. • Photos accompanying this review show just some of the construction evidence that you pass on the way to your room on the fourth floor. Without reviewing credit card receipts from previous stays, I do believe that the rates I paid during this visit were more than I’ve ever paid and the stay was, to be blunt, extremely disappointing. Quite frankly, the owners/management should be ashamed for accepting paying guests, especially at non-discounted rates. I look forward to staying here again in 2025 when construction is complete but until then my hotel stays in NYC will be elsewhere.
Underrated … if you’re forgiving!
The Jane deserves much more credit than it seems to be getting on TripAdvisor. Yes, there are some issues – the bathroom facilities are too few to serve the number of rooms per floor, the bunk rooms are seriously tiny, and the third floor suffers from the permanent aroma of fags Thanks to a couple of permanent residents who the hotel apparently have no control over. However, given its fantastic location and almost unbelievable price, this is an excellent option if you are prepared to compromise and forgive these features. Service was friendly and helpful, and the police seem to be pretty clean.
A functional place to stay
This hotel is well located, being a short walk from the nearest subway station and with multiple places to eat within reach. The staff were also very friendly. While my room was small, this didn't bother me as I was out most of the day - nor were there any conflicts with using the shared toilet/shower facilities. There was quite a lot of background noise, however, and there were issues with calling the elevator at one point. Ultimately, it served its purpose as a decent place to rest for a two-night stay in Manhattan.
I cannot believe.
.. nevermind. please do not stay at this hotel. used to be a cool spot to hang at night a decade ago. i just learned of the conditions they have their guest staying in. NOT WORTH IT. worse than the third class rooms on the titanic.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal

Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
