UOVO | Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Freaking amazing! The food, the staff and the experience
Freaking amazing! The food, the staff and the experience are all amazing. I cannot stress enough how good this place is! I am not a pasta person typically and yet whenever I am in LA this is the first place I make sure I go too! The last time I was there my family of five ordered every item on the menu and then some.
Very authentic Italian food and unique concept for menu.
There's a tasting menu and a la carte. I did the tasting menu and ordered the cheese & truffle, ravioli, and cacio e Pepe pasta option. The noodles are made fresh and FLOWN IN front of Italy on a daily basis. The cheese & truffle pasta was the star for me - it was creamy and subtle and the noodles were absolutely amazing... tasted like someone's nonna made it for me minutes before. The tasting menu also came with a crudo and tiramisu dessert. I would definitely suggest it. $37 and left perfectly full. You do have to put your name down for this restaurant so suggest going on a week day perhaps to not have to wait long.
Posting another review because this place still slaps.
Consistent every time. I never tire of dining here. Please open more locations.
This is the most overrated restaurant I have ever been to.
What's worse than the food is the service. The servers messed up multiple orders on our table and added items to the bill that were never ordered; but worst of all, they had the poorest attitude and were rude. They made everyone on the table uncomfortable. We couldn't wait to leave. Can't believe we waited 1.5 hours for that meal and experience.
The best Italian food I've had.
Service takes a little while but 100% understandable because it's always so busy. Ambiance is super romantic and perfect for a date, love coming with friends or boyfriend

Just had to jump on and leave a glowing review for the delicious pasta and incredible service. Even though I was a good 15 minutes later than my pick up time, they insisted on making a fresh batch of Tagliatelle Olio e Sale for me. Chef's kiss! Thank you! I'll be making this my go-to pasta place in SM. The pasta truly is exceptional - flavorful and toothsome with just olive oil and salt! And the vibe is very welcome and casual. I could have hung out all afternoon.
How can one not love a place where the pasta gets made
How can one not love a place where the pasta gets made fresh in Italy and overnighted to LA? Environmental impact aside, this is as close to going to Italy as possible. In fact, it's probably better because the pasta in Italy is not good if you're anywhere close to a tourist destination. Service is personal with a small-business feel because it's a small restaurant with mostly bar seating. I recommend the tasting menu. It's your way to try various pastas and sauces. Everything is al dente and not soggy. Portions are good, but I feel like I always want more pasta! Highly recommend.
All of pastas are really good and the texture of noodles
All of pastas are really good and the texture of noodles are chewy and tasty. I highly recommend
First food was great.
No complaints from our party of six. I had ricotta raviolis and brocollini. Yum. Thin noodles creamy cheese. My sister had the lasagna. It looked odd on delivery because there was no sauce on the plate but....girl .....not needed. Thin layers of noodles held it all together. Another person had the clams. Some had carbonara. Only complaint would be if it was super dark in there. No pictures for sure. You wouldn't be able to see anything and a flash would be crazy in there.
we got the cheese and truffle tasting menu!! the cheese and
we got the cheese and truffle tasting menu!! the cheese and truffle pasta was absolutely AMAZING. it was a perfect balance of salt, cream, and truffle, and the pasta texture was truly satisfying. i felt as if the pastas that came after didn't live up to the same level of taste, which was slightly disappointing. i wished the truffle would have finished it off with the best for last. the texture of the pastas were still the best i've had, and the tiramisu was so yummy, especially the cream and chocolate sauce. the service was great and they refreshed our plates after every tasting item. it was quite dark inside the restaurant, but it added to the ambiance! i just wish there were little lights so that we could look at the menu without turning on phone flashlights
Yum!
Fantastic restaurant that we found off Google. The pasta was simply amazing! The broccolini - is just the best! Nice touch that ice cold water is provided to every table and replaced regularly. Staff very friendly and nice seating area. We enjoyed it and found it good value for money! My son loved his pasta! Would definitely return and recommend to others.
Best dining experience in California!
This was hands down one of the best dining experiences we had while on vacation in California. The food was incredible! We have had authentic Italian cuisine and this matched it! The staff went out of their way to show excellent customer service and kindness. This one is worth the wait! This restaurant is doing something right!! Thank you for a great dining experience!
Great pasta but small portions
This was recommended to us by a local. Upon going in we were not sure if it was open as very quiet and dark but quite a few people came in straight after us. Loved the open cooking concept and staff were super friendly and service was slick. There were three of us dining, two of us had lasagne and when it was bought to the table we could not believe the size it was so SMALL and this is comparing to UK not US portions! There was about three mouth falls which when being charged $18++ per plate we were really surprised. I did check with the waiter if this was the right portion and he said it was the only portion size. $89 for three plates at lunch, one beer, one soda, one water and we all came out hungry. Might be delicious but expensive for the serving size!
FANTASTIC, Authentic Italian Pasta With vegetarian Options
Our dinner at Uovo set a new standard for authentic Italian pasta for us. We recently visited Italy and have had pasta on our brains (and in our hearts, and in our stomachs) for months now. Visiting Uovo, despite the fact that we were in Southern California, brought all of our sensibilities back to Italy. Every dish we got was delicious. It's their main thing, but in case you're not aware, the pasta is made in Bologna, Italy and shipped to them every day...so it just doesn't get much more authentic than that. My wife and I shared the tasting menu so we could try all of the vegetarian options, including Caco e Pepe, Pomodoro, and Tagliatelle in truffle sauce. All three were perfect and were my budget and waistline to allow, I would eat any of these every day. The tasting menu came with a small arugula salad, and Tiramisu which we also shared and which were great. The place is intimate...we ended up being seated at the bar. They don't take reservations, which is, on one hand refreshing as you know you're always going to have a fair shot of getting a table as anyone else...but, of course, that means wait times could be long. (But put your name in and they'll text you so you can wander around Santa Monica while waiting.) They do have tables but it's really the luck of the draw based on when you put your name in and what comes up first. Anyone who loves authentic Italian pasta dishes (or who yes yet to realize you love them) will find the very best of those here.

A real restaurant with Italian flavours, we had various types of pasta, all delicious. Recommended if you are looking for an Italian restaurant and also with average prices. The portions are a little small. Nice place and welcoming staff.
Eating in the Dark
Holy smokes, turn up the lights a smidge! This restaurant was so dark inside that customers had to turn on the cellphone torch/flashlight to read the menu. It made the experience bizarre. Any time I have eaten in Italy, the restaurants have appropriate lighting. I liked the food but am not sure the carbon footprint this place creates by shipping pasta from Bologna everyday is a good offset since the same egg laying chickens that are in Emilia-Romagna are all over the US and one can buy double zero Italian flour. If the touch of Italy was imported cheese wheels, I’d say, worth the shipping! As mentioned, I liked the food but it was strange the manager felt the need to explain to customers the needed to stir their food. In Bologna, they serve you food that is ready to put in your mouth. I appreciate this is a tip free restaurant as there is a fee on top of the overall bill. However, I think it’s better to build the fee into the food vs. a surprise fee you learn about after you get the check.
DELICIOUS
One word - amazing. A small intimate space, a menu with familiar pastas but with a twist. I can respect the ”polite decline” on changing anything because honestly everything tasted 10/10, don’t know why you would want to change it and to trust they know best! The best tiramisu of my life and highly recommend the ”original” share menu! thankyou to our server Alejandr.
Very good pasta
We were very well received in this small restaurant, we cannot reserve but it was very quick. We took the menus to share, it was excellent, starting with the marinated raw yellow tail which was excellent. Then 3 pasta dishes of very good quality because they come directly from Bologna by plane every day. It was a real delight. We were not disappointed . On the other hand, there is no cold meats or anything else for the aperitif or limoncello to finish the meal. Meal . Come there just to eat very good pasta.
Avoid if you are hungry and in a hurry
Decent Italian restaurant Impossible to reserve so we wait a long time to get a table. We chose to go outside because it was supposedly faster and above all it was almost less noisy outside on the road than inside. Arrival management level not great. A couple arrived after us and were seated before us... when they realized the mistake they stuck 3 of us together on a tiny table of 2... we had to put the water in the flower pots to be able to put our 3 plates. We were served one after the other… my lasagna arrived and my husband had finished. We can't say that the pasta is bad... on the other hand the quantities are ridiculous.. (children) My 13 year old daughter left the table hungry… Expensive wine and it is not good. Finally, they calm down without asking. In short, avoid it unless you have time and are not too hungry.
An italian idea, but...
I love the concept! Open kitchen. Pasta tossed in pans. There is an italian idea behind, but a few things have to be improved. You have to use more cooking water in your pasta dishes. Stop using Parmesan or Pecorino wheels. Is a useless bling bling thing. In the name of all Italian mamas all over the world, toss the pasta in your Bolognese Ragù. Never put oil on your Tagliatelle. Your pasta has not to look like an Emoji icon. The quality is worth a detour. As i said before, cool concept, for US standards not bad at all.
