I was craving deli food and remembered I his place nearby in downtown Culver. The reviews were mixed so I decided to try it for myself. I really really wanted it to be good. It was an hour before closing and I was the only customer. I checked out the menu online before I came so I knew what I wanted. Matzo ball soup to satisfy the craving. My go to - a corned beef Reuben and a last minute decision to get a pair of potato latkes. After ordering, I took a seat and admired the great view. Everything came pretty fast and all together which was fine. The matzo ball soup had a very dark broth, not the traditional clear chicken broth, I was a little concerned. I tasted it and it had what seemed to be a beefy taste but very bland otherwise. I added salt and pepper and hoped it would help. The matzo ball was really firm but had some flavor. I took a few more tastes but the broth just ruined it for me. It was terrible. The latkes were really over cooked. The Reuben had thin sliced corned beef that was dry, leathery and very tough. I added a little extra Russian dressing joint to moisten it up (they charged me an extra $.50 without mentioning the additional cost). I couldn't finish it. I packed it to go - I have no idea why, I knew I would just trash it later. It had to be the most disappointing meal I'd had in a vey long time. Honestly, it was pretty awful. There was literally nothing about this place that was traditional except maybe the decor. Next time, I'll take my craving to a deli across town, despite a drive to get my deli fix because this just wasn't it.
